According to Persis who is a student she defines family as “referring to an individual you can share good times and bad times with them, and they will always love you in spite of it all. It is no longer about blood relations or heritage, it is about the connection between the two that makes them family”. This student’s definition is saying throughout the years the definition of family has changed. The most recent definition of family is spending the good times and the bad ties with and will always love you no matter the moment. Poets agree to this definition because in all their stories they say that Family is a joy to come home to to after a long, tough day at work and your family will always be there for you thru the good times and bad. …show more content…
In the poem called “After work” by Richard Jones is about a working class people coming home from work that are tired and hungry, but when they get home their moods change because they see their families. After the dad comes home from a tough day at work: “and the father, angry, and tired after working all day embracing his little girl, kissing her”(Richard Jones). Being in the working class is tough, but coming home to your family is well worth the struggle. In the poem “Shake The Dust” by Anis Mojgani is about how people should live their life to the fullest and not let any struggles get in the way of what they want to achieve. When they talk about the working class dad: “For the men who have to hold down three jobs to hold up their children” (Mojgani) This quote explains the fact that the amount of jobs you have doesn’t matter as long as you do it for the love and to support your family it's all worth it. When the dad talks about all the work: “I feel rough hands on my heart” (Jones). Here this quote is saying that all of the negative emotion that is around him throughout the day is affecting how he feels. Although, In the poem “Shake The Dust” by Anis Mojgani is about not letting all your struggles pile up. when they talk about the people who wait for something to happen: “For the ones who are told to speak only when you are spoken to and then are never spoken to” (Mojgani). This quote is about how some people wait until someone has a reason to speak to that person which might not even come. It is also saying that your family member is always going to be there for you if you need anyone to talk to or you're just feeling lonely they are always there for you. In the poem “Inside The Limo” by Anis Mojgani is about the death of Pee Wee who is the narrator's friend. At the funeral: “something in my mother's face that told me i shouldn’t that it was inappropriate or perhaps that age I could just tell that when people are filled with sorrow even if it was just a donut i didn’t want to feel like I was taking something else from them” (Mojgani).
