Henry Purcell's two famous arias have been sung many different ways, by different artist. His use of of the different keys to conjure emotions was masterfully done. Purcell used major keys to evoke happiness and minor keys to evoke sadness. I believe it is well done in those respects, it sets the tone for what is going on up on stage. The two famous arias are Ah Belinda and when I am laid in earth(Dido's Lament) they both employ the ground bass technique, which a bass line is repeated as the basis of a piece, underneath vaiations, repeated over & over again, while the upper parts proceed normally. I think Emma Kirby done a tremendous job with her version of the aria. She has a outstanding voice and was only complimented with the use of Baroque instruments. Another fine example of the same piece of music is Jessye Norman's version of the aria, Ibelieve she exudes pain and suffering even through her facial expressions more so than Emma Kirby, very well done indeed. I also enjoyed Alison Moyet's more modern interpretation of the famous arias, tastefully done. It seems to have a lighter mood than the other two versions. The singer is not summoning or waking the troublesome agony that the others seem to be. I would have to say that I prefer Alison Moyet's version over the other two any day, because of the more modern sound and the lighter mood that it seems to exude. All pieces are beautifully done, and I suprisingly have a new respect for opera and all of it's allurment. It is an extravagent and gracefull artistry.

In this essay, the general performance of the concert will be discussed. After that, the piece L’amour est un oiseau rebelle from Carmen by Bizet will be the main focus of this essay. The performance of the performers was good in general. A large range of opera and types of opera vocals has been introduced. However, the instrumentation is simple that only a piano accompaniment. Some effects like accord cannot be perfectly expressed. The song L’amour est un oiseau rebelle is from the opera Carmen. It is a French aria in a simple duple meter with minor key first. Tempo of this song is moderately slow, but in a lively way. A variety of rhythm has been heavily utilized, including triplets, rests and doted rhythms. The song can mainly be divided into two parts. The first part starts with a minor key. The melody of the first part is according to a descending chromatic scale, which is easy to familiar with and more legato when singing. The key of the second part has been changed to...

...Following the Band: Review of the Film Almost Famous Almost famous, written and directed by Cameron Crowe , is an endearing coming of age film that follows the adventures and experiences William Miller, of a teenage writer played by Patrick Fugit, as he follows an up and coming rock and roll band (Stillwater) in order to write a cover story for Rolling Stone Magazine in the early 1970's. William Miller is a bright-eyed and intelligent young high school student with a passion for both writing and rock music. Confined by an overly concerned and strict mother who has a irrational dislike for rock and roll music, William is desperate to break away and create a life for himself. William is determined it find an outlet and eventually lands a job writing album reviews for a local newspaper. Lester Bangs, an editor of Cream (a low-budget rock and roll magazine) played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, stumbles across William's album reviews and enjoys his work. Lester ends up getting ahold of William and offers him a job reporting on a Black Sabbath Concert. William excitedly accepts the offer, but is unable to gain access to the hugely popular Black Sabbath after the concert. Fortunately for William the members of the opening band, Stillwater, are very willing to be interviewed and provide him with enough material to write a solid report. William's piece on Stillwater catches the eye of an editor at Rolling Stone Magazine, Ben Fong-Torres ( played by Terry Chen ), who was so impressed by...

Black Parade

...lyricsWhen I was a young boy, My father took me into the city To see a marching band. He said, "Son when you grow up, would you be the saviour of the broken,  the beaten and the damned?" He said "Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non-believers,  the plans that they have made?" "Because one day I'll leave you, A phantom to lead you in the summer, To join The Black Parade." When I was a young boy, My father took me into the city To see a marching band. He said, "Son when you grow up, would you be the saviour of the broken,  the beaten and the damned?" Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me. And other times I feel like I should go. And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets. And when you're gone we want you all to know. We'll carry on, We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it. A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all. So paint it black and take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end we hear the call To carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches On and on we carry through the fears Ooh oh ohhhh Disappointed faces of your peers Ooh oh ohhhh Take a look at me cause I...

Conflict Nd Resolution

...We define conflict as a disagreement through which the parties involved perceive a threat to their needs, interests or concerns. Every individual is unique and that very uniqueness will lead to conflicts in our relationship. You are in the middle of a conflict and resolution seems imminent, however, each time you approach the summit, the process stalls or goes into reverse. Why is this so? There are several factors that can delay or hinder the resolution process. The first one is Negative body language. A 'closed' posture (arms strapped across the chest), shaking one's leg, shaking one's head, tapping the floor with one's foot, sighing and grunting are all negative and do not help the process. Some men will apologise prematurely to get the woman 'to shut up' because 'I can't take the whole heap a argument'. This ploy may also be due to impatience. Some women will feign agreement while harbouring resentment and when the man thinks the hatchet is buried, the next conflict reveals that it was not buried deep enough. There may be times when there is a need to walk away from the conflict to prevent its escalation and to gather one's thoughts, but the decision to walk away must be thought out carefully as it could become a hindrance. On the flip side, persons may remain at the scene, but stew in silence. Besides that, Constant interruptions also can hinder conflicts resolution. If persons are serious about resolving conflicts, then there must be a concerted effort to allow the other...

Exploring the Consumer Society

...Jacob Tatum English 1302 – XW4 April 19, 2014 Professor Lee Exploring the Consumer Society: The Urge to Splurge I grew up in a middle-class neighborhood in McKinney, Tx. The high school I went to, McKinney High School, had students in attendance whose parents were on government assistance, students whose parents were in the top 10% of the top 1% financially and everywhere in between. Consider this, if you took a group of randomly selected students from my high school and your goal was to estimate their household income based upon the value of their possessions (phone, clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc...) you'd most likely get it all wrong. This is because it doesn't matter where you come from, how much money you have, or what you look like; you're a customer, you're a consumer. We live in a society today and I went to a high school where people are judged based upon their possessions and what they can acquire. It doesn't matter how you acquired it, as long as you've got it. I think that judging people based off of what they own is a huge mistake. I think it's unfortunate we are constantly purchasing things because of a brand or a logo, but at the same time I don't practice what I'm preaching. It's interesting to me that as I begin to think about it, I don't think any of the nice things I own are bringing me happiness right now, they have only provided some form of instant gratification. If someone asked me what I have to be happy about, I'd provide the cliché answer along the...

This sign should have put a period instead of a comma. My sign would have gone like this: When using the copy machine please do not put any items on it to avoid breakage. Thank you for your cooperation This sign can misinterpreted and the copy machine can still be broken, by the sentence saying heavy item, what about the smaller or lighter items that can jam the copy machine. The person who wrote this sign should have checked it first, this poor judgment of management. The second image was found at www.coriromashkina.blogspot.com website, the sign has misspelled word and the phrase should be rewritten. My version would have gone like this: The Town of Crestwood, in this town we speak English but if you don’t speak English your still welcome in this Town. This was a big mistake by the mayor’s office he should have not permitted it to be written in the first place and put up for all to see. This sign is very racist towards minorities. Personally I would have not have put something like that up, it is very rude. The third image was found at www.huffingtonpost.com, this is an advertising sign for food that is sold at an eatery. There are misspelled words. My version would have gone like this: We sell chicken eat more for your buck, chick-fil-a, instead of cows it should be chickens since that was they mostly sell. ...

Improving Creative Theory

...Improving Creative Theory I believe that my strength out of the twelve techniques is being alert of my observations. I say that because I always been very observant of everything I do, for instance one day I was thinking of a way to perform my job better and more efficiently. I notice one day that there was a folder on the company computer that no one has used since I have been employed at this company. I opened this folder and inside was a lot of missing blueprints that the company thought was lost and this allowed myself and others to be more productive and to spend less time at a job site making us more efficient. Like mention the ability to be observant allowed me to help an entire company including myself, this lead to a rise in my pay and more stability for my family. Another incident I had was when I was younger I had a friend who’s football had gotten stuck in a tree and we tried throwing rocks at it to try and knock it out of tree and we failed miserably, and I remember that I saw a very long metal rod a few blocks back from where we were, I ran back to get it and the rod was just long enough to reach the football we were able to get the football out of the tree. I plan to improve upon my risk taking ability, as stated in under this technique I have a real fear of failure which leads me to take less risks and usually keeps me stagnated and unfulfilled and wondering what if. This one technique I believe is the sole reason why I have not achieved the goals that I...
