WWII was a very depressing and hard time for people who lived the consequences. There were people that were taken into camps, or some that were being discriminated against because of their race or religion. In the novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, they are in an oppressive state because they were taken and put into a camp where they get treated poorly. In the passage Farewell to Manzanar by James D. Houston and Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, there is a girl who lives in an unjust time with World War II happening as a Japanese American family. Unbroken, a non-fiction book written by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie crashes into the Pacific Ocean and is stranded, then “rescued” by the POW and put into Japanese POW camps. Although Elie and his dad are taken into a camp, they are fighting to get through it and live their normal life when they get out. Unbroken, a non-fiction book written by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie is going through hard times. There are motives that make him strong and not give up. Laura makes people believe that they still have something that they want to keep going for, so they don't break and have to move on and be strong. Unbroken, Louie was enslaved and controlled by the “Bird”“All he could see in every direction, was the water”(17). Unbroken is a good example of the resilience that Louie Zamperini had to go through during World War II with the POW’S. Louie was staying strong during all the hard times they went through with the “Bird” and all the work they had to do when they were so weak. He was able to find the light in the darkest times because he kept when there were other people that would just give up and he wanted to survive. Despite facing challenges, Louie remains strong and never gives up because he wanted to live. During World War II, it was a challenging and somber period for many individuals who faced the
