The great depression was a of significant poverty which had many contributing factor. Some of the significant factors were, Stock market crash of 1929 and people buying goods on credit, unfair wages. This caused very high unemployment in poverty starting in 1931.In 1932 FDR was elected and was president until 1942. During his presidency he put new deal into effect which was designed to create programs that can support and help the world get out the depression. Overall FDR’s response to the Great Depression , such as social security and giving government money to relieve poverty,over all effective and expanded the role of government to make room for these new programs. One of FDR responses to the Great depression was putting money towards public projects and into relieving poverty which helped significantly. Under Social Security, the government gives money to the elderly because they are not able to work any more. Document E shows a poster created in 1935 promoting Social Security by the government under the New Deal. The government created social security locations so you can get social security checks anywhere. Before the Social security was created, elderly people were forced to keep working in order to have an income or they were starving to death because they had no money. Because of this law made by FDR, more people were eligible for social security and finally had a support to lean on which caused more people who were above the age of 65 to feel relieved and protected. This was successful in helping to support needy citizens, but it made people rely on the government a little too much.
