In Feed large companies can control what advertisements everyone with a chip can see. The companies also control what shows are made and what is allowed on the internet. Titus and his friends see certain ads based on what they see that the companies can also see and control. The viewers of the advertisements can’t control what they are seeing and aren’t able to get rid of them. This shows the restrictions that the large companies have on what anyone can see. The reader believes that if someone with a chip sees something they shouldn’t the companies can make them see something else or shut off the persons chip. The companies are also able to control people’s personality and opinions by showing them things to make them conform to the newest social standards. They show everyone the same ads or shows to make anyone that sees it want to be like what they see. By everyone changing to what they see, they all slowly become similar and personal opinions slowly diminish to what the companies want them to believe. Titisus’ friends change themselves to fit what they see constantly, “ without saying anything, they went and did theirs different like that, too.” The reader thinks that if no one tries to fight against the newest standards that everyone will eventually become the same. …show more content…
The large companies that control everything make everything basic to appeal to larger audiences and more people will want to buy it on their feeds. The more people that want these items means the more money the large companies makes. “And gradually, everyone gets used to everything being basic, so we get less and less varied as people, more simple.” (p. 97).
