Few Good Man

...Few good man Time from time you may hear stories of abuse by the military justice "system". There are multiple destroyed and financially devastated families out there suffering heartbreak and loss at the hands of an uncaring, unfeeling and unjust process which makes a mockery of our Bill of Rights. Military justice for the majority is prefabricated according to the wishes of the local Commander, and the "trial" or "court-martial" is tantamount to a pre-ordained verdict of GUILTY. How could any court proceeding be considered fair when the "convening authority," by right of title, is given the power to select the judge, the jury and defense and prosecution attorneys? It may go "unsaid," but the implication is very clear - if the convening authority "sees fit" to bring about a court-martial, then the accused can be assumed to be guilty. What's special, or even topical, about A Few Good Men movie is it speaks to how military honor can be so readily suborned by the authoritarian impulse. And second, how the same honest pride - not to mention competence - is necessary to bring such posturing would-be tyrants to justice. The main issue the movie touches upon is military justice. A good marine abides by the following code: 1. Unit 2. Corps 3. God and 4. Country For this code to be at its effective best, it must be governed by truth and justice. What happens when truth and justice fail to be active participants of this code? Justice has been defined in many......

A&F Case

...intentions of over-sexualizing young girls. Comments began pouring in decrying the company’s apparent lack of decency or sensitivity. All were asking the same question: “how soon is too sexy?” Did this controversy expose a company intent on objectifying young girls? Or is it another cog in the successful marketing wheel of one of the popular clothing retailers in America? Company Background Founded in 1892 as an elite outdoor clothing store, Abercrombie and Fitch, or A&F, was the brainchild of owners David T. Abercrombie and Ezra H. Fitch. In 1976, however, the company closed after filing for bankruptcy, but was revived soon after by Oshman’s Sporting Goods of Houston as a mail order retail store. Eventually, the company was sold again to The Limited in 1988 and then became a publicly owned company. Known for its preppy, “casual luxury” style, A&F finds great profitability in positioning itself as an up-scale, trendy clothing store for preteen, teenage and early adult. In addition to A&F and aberrombie, A&F also owns Hollister & Co., Gilly Hicks and Reuhl, all stores that cater to A&F’s primary market of teenagers and young adults. Marketing and Advertising A&F’s advertising style, while not unique in its use of sexuality, is recognizable in using nude or partially nude models in magazine and store displays. The still photography style is poignant, usually black and white and often features models in suggestive poses, which promotes its sensual style. The......

...with apparel, because the trend nowadays is when you are wearing that kind of shirt and it is a high class brand, you’re in with the trend and you are considered one of the coolest kids in your school. While the organization culture of A&F is very different from other brands because they are the only company who hires people based on their looks and how they act and not with the skills. They are always saying that they don’t treat them as salespeople; they are the image that represents the brand. Their marketing strategy is very objective; they have these clear goals that they want to achieve. And their market sales are also getting higher thanks to those advertisements that they have. I can recommend that they need to have a clearer image for the brand; they need to be a good leader for the youth and an effective industry that has good means for the people and for their consumers who are all basically teenagers. So I suggest they change their way of advertising because this can also affect the market of A&F. IV. Situation Analysis: A. Environment 1. Economic Conditions and Trends The fashion industry is famous for a variety of retail channels such as specialty stores. Gap, American Eagle, J.Crew and Abercrombie & Fitch to name a few. In 2003, specialty stores accounted 28.5 percent of all retail sales. In 2005, Abercrombie & Fitch has been steadily declining from their inventory turnover ratio when it declined from 4.49 in 2005 to 2.82 in 2006. The company......

Those Few Moments

...Those Few Minutes Maybe she was born this way. Maybe she has to be crazy to love the sport, to love gymnastics. It destroys her body. It takes up nearly all of her life all for a few seconds on the mats. Sometimes she has to ask herself, “Is it worth it?” She always answers yes. Those few minutes mean the world to her. Whether she walks off or has to be carried off, the pain endured on those mats will always be worth those few minutes. If she loses or if she wins, whether her routine falls apart or marks perfection, those mats are worth it. That is why she gives everything while competing. The rush of air as she flies through the air, the sound of the excited crowd arises the second she sticks her landing. She smiles widely even when she aches from pain, because of these few moments. She will give her last few minutes on the floor with the realization that these minutes meant everything to her and that provides the motivation to give everything she has. When she is competing she can feel it. The blood rushing to her face, she feels the nerves that are seemingly impossible to control. Her legs and hands shake, for fear of making a devastating mistake. Her success all depends on the performance she can give in such a minuscule amount of time. On December 3rd, 2010, she went to Regionals. Her goal was to score perfectly on beam. She counted to three, inhaled, and mounted the beam. Drops of sweat beaded up on her forehead. It was halfway through her routine, when she fell on......

The Things That Few Have Carried

...Miller 1 Steven Miller Dr. Craig Barto English 112 14 February 20, 2014 The Things That Few Have Carried When people think of war, they think of very few things. They think of the things that is only seen on T.V. and movies. The small percentage of people who join the military can tell you about the military lifestyle, but the even smaller number of veterans who have actually been to combat can tell you that war is not what Hollywood makes it. In war, the average psyche of a human changes. There is no longer a “me” or “I” anymore, there has to be a unit mentality. The emotions range from extreme terror to having never been so bored in one’s entire life. Combat is not a constant experience, although combat is very common. Combat veterans will say that they have experienced a lot of the same feelings, but everyone deals with these feelings in their own way. In “The Things They Carried,” Tim O’Brien portrays the theme of war very accurately. He shows the emotions of Lt. Jimmy Cross, who is a platoon leader that not only has to handle his own personal thoughts, but his responsibilities towards the men that he commands. The responsibility that he has towards keeping his men alive is what truly weighs on his heart after Ted Lavender’s death. Prior to that, O’Brien is almost completely overwhelmed with his own selfish thoughts of Martha. These constant thoughts of a loved one back home is what has and will always dwell on the hearts and minds of men and women deployed......

F-Test

...Identify and apply appropriate statistical analysis: The statistical test that I decided to analyze was the F-Test. This test is used for comparing variances. The reason I chose this test was due to the fact that I am going to be using this same data on my term paper. I will be comparing runway incursions that took place between 2011 and 2012. The data from this group will be independent of each other. The F-Test can also be conducted with data that is unpaired. Data Collection: Techniques in data collection can be from the entire population, or it can be from sample data, which can be random or selected from the population. In the runway incursion F-test the data will be collected from the entire population. Review: The data that was collected for this test was taken from the FAA website, which gives runway incursion totals for each quarter. The given data is from the population. I have chosen the F-test because this will give us variance. Critique: There were a few other tests that could have been conducted, but the F-test was the one that would give me the best results. The T-Test would have been an option for me if I were comparing variance for a single sample. A second option would have been the Chi-test for independence, the problem with this test was I wasn’t testing for independence. I was testing for variance. The F-test was the best fit because I had more than one sample set that was independent from each other. Interpretation: This is where we......
