Valuing uniqueness can be a tricky thing. However, over the years I have learned to do just that. At my high school there are two main types of groups. The agriculture group (FFA – Future Farmers of America) and the sports group. The third group is everybody else. For me, I am a little bit of all three. Consequently, I tend not to fit into any mold that our high school tries to put a person in.

Throughout high school I participated in football, basketball and baseball. However, that does not mean I was on the varsity team. In fact, other than baseball, I was on the junior varsity squad in both football and basketball for three years. Of course, I wanted to be on varsity, but other athletes were more talented than I was. Knowing this, …show more content…
Whether it’s because I grew up on an apple orchard or because I enjoy anything to do with projects, I naturally gravitate to farming people. In FFA I have competed in apple judging, animal raising and welding competitions. Again, not many FFA members look to team sports for recreation. We FFA types tend to ride motorcycles, hunt and fish.

The other group I am proud to be a part of is the band nerds! As far as I know I am the only four-year, three-sport athlete to play in concert band throughout high school. Many of the jocks do not look at band as something they would consider “cool”. However, in this group I have developed many friendships and we have accomplished a lot as a “team”. Our band has ranked superior in every band competition we competed in every year. In this regard, I believe the concert band has accomplished more than any of my sports teams and I am proud to be a part of it.

After graduating from high school this spring, I will honestly be able to say I tried it all. I did not let one group pigeon-hole me into limitations. This may not have been the route that most high school students take, and although it has had some effect on my social life, it has made me well-rounded, competent and

Consumer Safety

...Congressional Actions on the Improvement Act * CRS Summary * Major Congressional Actions * Public Law 112-28 * Chronology CPSC Commissioners The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal regulatory agency, which was established with the passage of the Consumer Product Safety Act in 1972, and began operating in 1973. The primary responsibilities of the CPSC were to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products. The CPSC also promotes the evaluation of consumer products for potential hazards, establishes uniform safety standards for consumer products, eases conflicting state and local regulations concerned with consumer safety, and selectively conducts research on potentially hazardous products. In a 1970 precursor study to the establishment of the CPSC, the National Commission on Product Safety’s Final Report (Final Report) was issued to the President and Congress. This report included extensive surveys – on product hazards, accident information systems, voluntary product standards, consumer education, the state of product safety law, the relationship between Federal law and State law, product safety policy in other countries – and also contained proposals for general product safety legislation, the core of which was to be the creation of a Federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The report concluded that not only was the American public being exposed to many unreasonably...

Characterization and Applications of Lipases

...Name of the Assignment: Characterization and Applications of Lipases Course Title: Enzymology Course ID: BTC 517 Date of Submission: 3 August, 2012 Submitted To: Professor Naiyyum Choudhury Coordinator,Biotechnology MNS Department BRAC University Mohakhali, Dhaka Submitted By: Sultana Rownok Jahan M.S Biotechnology Summer 2012 MNS Department BRAC University Mohakhali,Dhaka. Introduction: Lipases are the special kind of esterases belong to subclass 1 of hydrolytic enzyme class 3 and have been assigned sub-sub class 3.1.1 due to their specificity for carboxylic acid ester bonds. Lipases (triacylglycerol acylhydrolases, E.C. 3.1.1.3) are ubiquitous enzymes of considerablephysiological significance and industrial potential. Lipases catalyze the hydrolysis of triacylglycerols to glycerol and free fatty acids. In contrast to esterases, lipases are activated only when adsorbed to an oil–water interface (Martinelle et al., 1995) and do not hydrolyze dissolved substrates in the bulk fluid. A true lipase will split emulsified esters of glycerine and long-chain fatty acids such as triolein and tripalmitin. Lipases are serine hydrolases and contain the consensus sequence G – X1 – S – X2 – G as the catalytic moiety, where G – glycine, S – serine,X1 – histidine and X2 – glutamic or aspartic acid .Lipases display little activity in aqueous solutions containing soluble substrates. In contrast, esterases show normal Michaelis–Menten...

Managing Organisational Change

...Leicester Business School De Montfort University Full-time MBA and MSc International Business (HRM) 2012/2013 Module: Managing Organisational Change (HRMG5027) Tutors’ names: Dr Deborah Price & Dr Jenna Ward Student Name: Yu Kang Student Number: P10506959 Word counts: 3438 Submitted Date: 17/05/2013 Introduction Everything in this world is moving and changing including organization. Organizational change occurs as a reaction to an ever-changing environment, a response to a current crisis situation, or is triggered by a leader (Jones, 2004). In 1947, K Lewin indicated that group life is never without change, which means that change has been a necessary process during the organizational development which is mentioned as a planned change process, managed from the top, taking into account both the technical and the human sides of the organization by Schien(1992). The ex-British Prime Minister named Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) (B. Senior and S. Swailes, 2010) explained that ‘change is inevitable in a progressive country’, he also considers that ‘only change is constant’. Being proved by Collins (1998), Huff and Huff (2000), Organization change is one of perennial issues in organization and management theory. However, the type of organizational change is not unique, Strebel (1996) illustrates that change may be a constant but it is not always the same, in addition, Grundy (1993) indicates that there are three varieties of change including Discontinuous...

Econometrics

...InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com) DOI: 10.1002/jae.1036 ECONOMETRICS OF AUCTIONS BY LEAST SQUARES LEONARDO REZENDE* PUC-Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, Illinois, USA SUMMARY I investigate using the method of ordinary least squares (OLS) on auction data. I find that for parameterizations of the valuation distribution that are common in empirical practice, an adaptation of OLS provides unbiased estimators of structural parameters. Under symmetric independent private values, adapted OLS is a specialization of the method of moments strategy of Laffont, Ossard and Vuong (1995). In contrast to their estimator, here simulation is not required, leading to a computationally simpler procedure. The paper also discusses using estimation results for inference on the shape of the valuation distribution, and applicability outside the symmetric independent private values framework. Copyright  2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Received 15 September 2006; Revised 1 July 2008 1. INTRODUCTION The field of econometrics of auctions has been successful in providing methods for the investigation of auction data that are well grounded in economic theory and allow for inference on the structure of an auction environment. Today, a researcher has a number of alternative structural methods, especially within the independent private-values paradigm (IPVP); an excellent reference to this literature is the book by Paarsch and Hong (2006). To name a few alternatives...
