hink you’re the one who’s more docile. I think I’m doing a good job in taming you.” “Taming me?” he snorts, amused. When I nod, he frowns as if reflecting on my words. “Yes. Maybe you are, Anastasia.” “You were right about Jack,” I murmur, serious now, and I lean across the kitchen island gauging his reaction. Christian’s face falls and his eyes harden. “Has he tried anything?” he whispers, his voice deathly cold. I shake my head to reassure him. “No, and he won’t, Christian. I told him today that I’m your girlfriend, and he backed right off.” “You’re sure? I could fire the fucker.” Christian scowls. I sigh, emboldened by my glass of wine. “You really have to let me fight my own battles. You can’t constantly second-guess me and try to protect me. It’s stifling, Christian. I’ll never flourish with your incessant interference. I need some freedom. I wouldn’t dream of meddling in your affairs.” He blinks at me. “I only want you safe, Anastasia. If anything happened to you, I—” He stops. “I know, and I understand why you feel so driven to protect me. And part of me loves it. I know that if I need you, you’ll be there, as I am for you. But if we are to have any hope of a future together, you have to trust me and trust my judgment. Yes, I’ll get it wrong sometimes—I’ll make mistakes, but I have to learn.” He stares at me, his expression anxious, spurring me to walk round to him so that I am standing between his legs while he sits on the barstool. Grabbing his hands, I put them around me and place my hands on his arms. “You can’t interfere in my job. It’s wrong. I don’t need you charging in like a white knight to save the day. I know you want to control everything, and I understand why, but you can’t. It’s an impossible goal . . . you have to learn to let go.” I reach up and stroke his face as he gazes at me, his eyes wide. “And if you can do that—give me that—I’ll move in...

...The Fitzpatrick scale was developed by Thomas .B. Fitzpatrick in 1975 the scale helps predict the skins response by giving accurate analysis of skin tones. The scale also classifies their tolerance of sunlight and it can determine how some on will react to facial treatments and how likely the person is get skin cancer. Researching the Fitzpatrick scale on myself I have indicated that my skin is type V. My eye color is brownish black and the natural color of my hair is black, my skin color is light brown and I have few freckles. Also when I am in the sun I never have burned. I tan very easily and with several hours of sun exposure I often burn. My face reacts normal to the sun. When I lasted exposed myself to the sun was more than three months ago. Sometimes I expose the area to be treated to the sun. I found the Fitzpatrick scale very interesting so I did the scale on a friend named Tangela Morrison she works as a barber and is thirty-three years of age her skin is a type111 her eye color is dark brown and the color of her natural hair is dark brown her skin color is light brown and she has no freckles that are unexposed. When in the sunlight she never receives burns. Tangela has a reasonable tan when she turns brown and when exposed to the sun for several hours she sometimes turns brown. Her face acts normal when she in the sun the last time tangela was exposed her body to the sun was more than about three months ago. She never exposes the area to be treated to the...

Shade vs Sun Grown Coffee

...the world has moved from shade grown coffee to sun grown coffee which has substantially changed the Earths’ landscape. Almost 60% of the trees have been cut under which coffee was grown. The shaded coffee plants were resting places for migrating songbirds like warblers, orioles, wood thrushes and fly catchers. Thhese coffee plants were their food. Now there are fewer species of birds in the sun shaded coffee plants as compared to shade grown coffee plants. Many insects like orchids, amphibians and reptiles lived on shaded coffee plants but they cannot live on sun grown coffee plants. Stats show that sun coffee varieties has three times more production that than shaded coffee. But many chemicals as fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides are used for their growth. These plants have very small roots which increases erosion. It is true that most of the worlds’ coffee produce is now from sun grown but that was not always the case. Initially most of the produce was shade grown. Most of the varieties of coffee were traditionally intolerant of direct sunlight. Trees provided the proper environment like organic wastes and moisture for proper growth. Nitrogen-fixing legumes are also present in this enviroemnt which convert nitrogen in usable forms. This environment has many natural advantages like it keeps the earth cool, creates clouds for rainfall, controls insects and provide them living place. Many studies have also revealed that shade based coffee farms have......

...north, where it disappeared behind another pine-covered island. This dark line was the trail—the main trail. It led south 500 miles to the Chilcoot Pass, and salt water. It led north 75 miles to Dawson, and still farther on to the north a thousand miles to Nulato, and finally to St. Michael, on Bering Sea, a thousand miles and half a thousand more. But all this—the distant trail, no sun in the sky, the great cold, and the strangeness of it all—had no effect on the man. It was not because he was long familiar with it. He was a newcomer in the land, and this was his first winter. The trouble with him was that he was not able to imagine. He was quick and ready in the things of life, but only in the things, and not in their meanings. Fifty degrees below zero...

Mars Company -New Harvest

...1.1 1. When the company ties employee compensation to the company’s financial results it helps keep their employee turnover rate low because the employees will be motivated to do their jobs better and less people will be losing their jobs. The Mars Company keeps televisions throughout their faculties to show how the company is doing to the employees, which helps keep them driven because they get a good compensation off the great jobs they do for the company. Employees also get good compensation when they are on time and work together, because of this the employees will stay with the company longer and the company will not have to hire any new people, which would cost the company twice an employee’s salary to find and train a new person for the job. With the employee compensation and the company’s financial results tied together the Mars’s work place is a happy and thriving place that keeps its employees around for many generations, which keeps the employee turnover rate at less the five percent. 2. The Mars Company cam leverage its “Best Company” award to attract new employees and customers because it shows they encourage employee advancement and that customers are high priority. Since little is known about the Mars Company the little information they do give goes along way; like the fact that their quality principle is “the consumer is our boss, quality of our work and value of money is our goal” shows a lot about the company in just that small sentence, that they......

...The Troop Leading Procedures are 8 steps, which take place by the command to prepare his or her soldiers for the mission being given. These steps will better prepare the element for its mission. These steps are best explained in FM 3-21.8 starting on 1-29 of the Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad handbook. The steps discussed in this FM and this essay are as follows; Receive the mission, Issue a warning order (WARNO), Make a tentative plan, Initiate movement, Conduct Reconnaissance, Complete the plan, Issue the Order, Supervise and Assess. In a real life situation, time is of the essence and there will be little available to go over each step in depth. Steps 1 and 2 will be given clearly and efficiently, while steps 3-8 will seem to merge together, because these can be done at the same time. Step 1: Receiving the mission could come in the form of multiple different orders; a WARNO or warning order, an OPORD or operations order, or a FRAGO or fragmentary order. After receiving the mission, the leaders give a confirmation brief to other higher command to ensure they understand higher commanders intent, the role that their own squad or group plays, and overall concept of the operation. This is important so that the leader giving the combat order can clarify any misconceptions or misunderstandings before it is given to the rest of the group. After clarifying any misunderstandings, the command performs an initial assessment of the situation using the principles of METT-TC. This...

50 Shades of Religion

...The mystics say you can find God anywhere. I believe many women have found him in “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The trilogy has sold more than 10 million copies, mostly to women over 30 who can’t put the books down. Publishing rights have been sold in 37 countries and movie rights have been secured by Universal. Even British hotelier, Jonathan Denby, has decided to remove all the Gideon Bibles from his hotel's 40 rooms and replace them with the book in the Damson Dene Hotel in the Lake District of England. The books chronicle the relationship between a dominating male entrepreneur, Christian Grey, and a young female college graduate, the submissive Anastasia Steele. The series has been mulled by many writers who have debated whether or not this is a setback for women, to be attracted to a submissive relationship, or a breakthrough, to be able to openly read and discuss a book so sexually explicit that it is often referred to in the media as “mommy porn.” I think the “Fifty Shades” phenomenon is a thinly veiled rewrite of religion. Not religion in the conventional sense of the word, but in how we are redefining faith practices today as more and more people, especially women, shun man-made traditions yet continue to yearn for religious experiences. Something, yet again, to reassure those afraid of the unknown. Diana Butler Bass writes in “Christianity After Religion,” that millions of people share her story “of growing up in a formal religion, finding that somehow chilly or......

Book Reviews

...the book I’m reading for the critical review project, I Don’t Have a Thing to Wear: The Psychology of Your Closet, I found a title of a review that struck me as odd and the review itself was a bit over the top which to me comes off as fake. It was rated five stars and the review appears to be written by a girl’s boyfriend stating that “she can’t put it down” and “she just raves about it constantly” (Bouton, 2003). The one part that really puts me off about this review is that he says “and I wish I had a nickel for each time I've heard a woman shout out the title of this book” (Bouton, 2003). This is one review I would definitely ignore if I had been deciding whether to read the book or not. 4. Stupid / Ridiculous Review – The trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey has a lot of good, bad and stupid reviews. One review that stood out to me as ridiculous is by a reviewer on amazon.com who rated the book two stars but commented...

The Problem Is ***********

...The Problem is ********* The United States has promised its citizens the basic rights to speech and free press since the founding of our nation. But in 1821, our country took its first steps towards censorship when the 1748 novel Fanny Hill was banned for containing offensive and vulgar language as well as detailing the less than glamorous life of a prostitute. The tradition of removing books from schools for their questionable content has carried on into the twenty first century with the banning of several extremely popular books such as Harry Potter, for its use of witchcraft as a key plot point, The Hunger Games, for its graphic descriptions of children slaying one another on live television, and even the widespread elementary boy’s books Captain Underpants, for its use of bathroom humor frequently throughout the series. Not only these books, but also beloved classics such as The Scarlett Letter, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Grapes of Wrath, and The Great Gatsby have all been removed from the curriculum of many schools in order to shelter students from the taboo topics they discuss, such as racial prejudice, adultery, and alcoholism. Many concerned Americans have begun to wonder whether or not the government should have the power to control what students read and believe that censorship goes against the very foundations of our nation. While the United States Constitution does clearly state that “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech or of the press”,......

The Weaker Vessel? a Look Into How Popular Fashion Media Is Portraying Traditional Male Misogynist Values in Its Advertising.

...advertising campaigns. Both adverts display extreme sexualised violence against women by a group of men. The adverts show a women who is being held down by a oppressive male hand, while four men gaze at her. The same gaze at which English aristocrats would look at the the exotic women of Turkey in oil painting or how 21st century men look at women in internet pornography. The idea of wealth and sexual violence being linked in popular culture is a common place and I will also explore how the idea of wealthy is linked to women and their sexuality. Throughout art history women have been depicted from male perspective as weaker, passive receivers of violence and object of a sexual gaze. This can be seen up to the modern day with the movie such as ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. The Dolce and Gabbana advert 2010 is a prime example of the power struggles between men and women in modern media. In the advert you have four wealthy looking men in what appears to be a cold, expensive pool side location. The industrial, cool, clean look is a typical of masculinity and is actively oppressive of femininity such as the industrial...

Fanfiction

...Sentence Outline Narrowed Down Topic: Fanfiction: A Creative Platform for Writers I. Introduction A. Introductory Device B. Thesis Statement People should have the liberty to write fanfiction, because it is an opportunity for enthusiastic writers to develop their writing abilities, it is an outlet for writers to explore endless possibilities in creating derived compositions, and lastly it is an activity to simply enjoy oneself considering it is a non-profit activity that brings forth intercommunication within a certain fandom, though sometimes fanfiction may affect an author’s capability to produce their own stories. II. Background A. Morrison (2012) states in The Guardian that fanfiction officially started, in the modern times, during the mid 50’s and 60’s with the growth of television expanding, more people wanted to create what-if stories with their favourite characters through writing. B. According to Schaffner (2009), fanfiction are stories ripped off from other people's work, so fanfiction is a free form, innovatory or derivative textual work that fanfiction practitioners publish online. C. Alter (2012) writes in her article that fan fiction is still a sensitive subject for writers and publishers; while some see it as free marketing and others regard it as a derivative dreck at best and copyright infringement at worst. III. Body A. Writing fanfiction is an opportunity for enthusiastic writers to develop their writing abilities. 1.) Buroker (2013) an......
