The period following the silent era was full of innovations. Jammin’ the Blues (1944) is one of these great innovations. This short film by Gjon Mili featured musicians Lester Young, George Callender, and Harry Edison. This film makes the first time when great filmmakers teamed up with great musicians to create what may have been the very first music video. The film was also a great opportunity and rare chance for lesser-known musicians to get large amounts of exposure. The film is so interesting because the mood of the video perfectly matches the mood of the music. The laid back and reflective mood of the music is perfectly highlighted with the dimly lit stage and high contrast lighting on the performers. The film also is so successful
