Film Reaction (Chicken Run)

On a chicken farm in England, Ginger and the other chickens have spent their lives repressed and awaiting a certain death at the hands of the Tweedys . They spend their lives laying eggs until they physically cannot and then are killed . Ginger , however , wants more . She is the leader of the chickens and creates elaborate plans to try and escape . Sadly , the plans do not work out and often end with her in solitary confinement . She refuses to accept that there isn’t more to life than just laying eggs . When Rocky the Rooster “flies” onto their farm , he seems like the answer to Ginger’s prayers . Desperately trying to hide from his circus owners , he agrees to teach the chickens how to fly in exchange for being hid . Unfortunately , Rocky does not know how to fly , which creates some problems for the chickens . To add to the trouble , the Tweedys decide to convert their egg business into a chicken pot pie business and the chickens are now racing against time to escape before the factory is up and running and they become chicken pies . After many other failed attempts at unsuccessful plans , Ginger decides that they should fly off the farm but in an airplane instead of using their wings . The chickens then build an airplane and narrowly escape the Tweedys and the threat of being turned into pies . After escaping, the chickens move to an open field where they can enjoy their freedom and not worry about laying eggs for anyone ever again .

Ginger is an authoritative leader. This is because the other chickens do not understand the gravity of their situation on the chicken farm and are not as motivated as Ginger to change their fate, it is hard for Ginger to be democratic . The other chickens do not think like her . Therefore , they are incapable of truly understanding how much better their lives could be . They are also unable to come up with escape plans comparable to Ginger’s , so Ginger creates the plans and tells them what to do , based on each chicken’s individual strengths .

When Ginger realizes that Rocky may not be being honest with his flying abilities , she makes it very clear that she needs to see results by the next day or their deal is off . Although this tough love would not work with most of the hens , it surprises Rocky enough to get him to change and proves that Ginger is an effective leader because she is able to recognize when certain leadership styles will work and when they won’t .

Although Ginger is authoritative , all the hard work she puts in is for the other chickens and their wellbeing . This is because of her empathy and the strong relationships she has with the chickens , Ginger also uses affiliative qualities to motivate the other chickens . Ginger’s ability to combine authoritative and affiliative traits makes her a strong leader because she is able to recognize which tactics will be more effective in each case and in doing so , make decisions that ultimately lead to the chickens’ success .

Gold Rush

...ending? Charlie Chaplin added his twist to the meaning of “happy endings” when he directed the film Gold Rush. Even when the movie business was in its early years Chaplin recognized that a happy ending could have a variety of meaning. Furthermore, he tantalized the audience from every angle with his resourcefulness and quick wit. In Gold Rush, Chaplin easily makes fun out of being poor and destitute. For one thing, he was able to turn the hazards and tribulations of “coldness” into comedy. In essence, I am referring to the coldness due to the weather and of some people’s reactions to the Little Tramp. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the movie even though it highlights the many aspects of desperate men and women who are willing to put their bodies through immense hardship in the pursuit of gold. For sure, the Little Tramp is by no means on physical par to the other men in the movie; however, he always has an ingenious way of getting what he wants, even the girl. For example, when Big Jim imagines that Charlie is a chicken and runs after him with an axe, Charlie mistakenly shoots a bear and they have food for days. Then, Charlie meets another prospector who lends him his cabin and all he had to do was simply take care of the cabin and the mule. Chaplin was able to pull the audience into the movie; he would have them laughing at one time and sad in the other instance. The film did make me feel a little sad because of the way Georgia and her friends treated the Little...

Super Size Me

...Documentary Review Super-Size Me I. Summarize the documentary “Super Size Me”. Give a detailed description of the coverage of the documentary, and state briefly the “take away” message it gives. “Super-Size Me” is a an experiment created by Morgan Spurlock where he sets out an investigation to understand and prove how quickly and harmful fast food could be on a person’s body, health, and wellbeing. The primary concept revolves around eating nothing but McDonald’s food for a period of 30 days for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This meant that any food not on the McDonald’s menu was not allowed to be consumed during this process. As Morgan Spurlock was lying around at home watching the news, he came across a report on two teenage girls whose parents had sued McDonalds, blaming MacDonald’s for their girl’s obesity problem. This news impulses him to pursue an investigation and experience hands on the cause and effect that resulted from eating McDonald’s food. In the documentary, Spurlock begins as a very healthy person. In fact, his health was above average. He weighed about 185lbs and his body fat was less than below average at an (11%). His cholesterol was under 200 which for his height, (6 feet and 2 inches) he was considered a healthy individual. In preparation to begin, Spurlock informs three doctors from three different specialties to embark with him in his journey of 30 days. It consisted of a cardiologist, gastroenterologists, and a general practitioner...

Mcdonald's Hot Coffee Case

...about 400,000 people. McDonald’s has been able to successfully increase revenues and profits in recent years in spite of much negative publicity and an increasingly health conscious public. This case study shows how the company has achieved these goals in a difficult trading environment. Summary  McDonald’s has, to a great extent, defied recent difficult economic conditions and continued to experience strong sales and profit growth in recent years, as it has been able to attract diners with an improved and expanded product range while remaining competitive on price.  McDonald’s has been the target of much criticism in recent years for serving large amounts of foods high in saturated fat, salt, sugar and calories. The 2004 documentary film Super Size Me brought this under the spotlight. The company responded to this criticism by introducing healthier menu choices, adjusting portion sizes and reducing salt and sugar content. It has also expanded its product range in an attempt to attract a new type of customer, most...

By “history” I mean: the historical filmic context of the film, which was released in 1915. I am going to show how history is represented in the film. We can see some facts that may have been changed in some aspects in order to guide our minds to what the director want us to think. We also find, as a method to support this, the introduction of fictional characters in some much known historical events of the United States. To end with, I am going to explain why this film is so important, including the technical improvements that are represented here. D. W. Mary and Max

...Mary and Max It is 1976, an 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dinkle (Bethany Whitmore) is a lonely little girl living in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, Australia. Her relatively poor family cannot afford to buy her toys or nice clothing, and she is teased by children at her school due to an unfortunate birthmark on her forehead. Her father is distant and her alcoholic, kleptomaniac mother provides no support. The closest thing she has to a friend is the man for whom Mary collects mail, Len Hislop, a World War II veteran who lost his legs as a prisoner of war and has developed agoraphobia. One day, she decides to write a letter to someone living in New York City: by pure chance she chooses Max Jerry Horowitz (Philip Seymour Hoffman) from a telephone directory. Max turns out to be a morbidly obese 44-year-old whose various mental problems (including anxiety attacks and overeating) have left him unable to form close bonds with other people. Max decides to write back to Mary, and the two become friends. Over time, Mary's increasingly sensitive questions about the adult world give Max progressively worse anxiety attacks, and he is ultimately institutionalized. During his time there, Max is diagnosed with depression and Asperger syndrome. Now aware of why he has difficulty relating to other people, Max finds a new lease on life and resumes his correspondence with Mary. The two remain friends for the next two decades, keeping one another updated on various events in their lives. Mary (Toni Colette)...

Product Placement

...Journal of Management and Marketing Research Product placement effectiveness: revisited and renewed Kaylene Williams California State University, Stanislaus Alfred Petrosky California State University, Stanislaus Edward Hernandez California State University, Stanislaus Robert Page, Jr. Southern Connecticut State University ABSTRACT Product placement is the purposeful incorporation of commercial content into noncommercial settings, that is, a product plug generated via the fusion of advertising and entertainment. While product placement is riskier than conventional advertising, it is becoming a common practice to place products and brands into mainstream media including films, broadcast and cable television programs, computer and video games, blogs, music videos/DVDs, magazines, books, comics, Broadway musicals and plays, radio, Internet, and mobile phones. To reach retreating audiences, advertisers use product placements increasingly in clever, effective ways that do not cost too much. The purpose of this paper is to examine product placement in terms of definition, use, purposes of product placement, specific media vehicles, variables that impact the effectiveness of product placement, the downside of using product placement, and the ethics of product placement. Keywords: Product placement, brand placement, branded entertainment, in-program sponsoring Product placement effectiveness, Page 1 Journal of Management and Marketing Research INTRODUCTION In its simplest form...
