Film Viewer Opinion
This summary will address how I determine which films to watch, what makes a film enjoyable, and what makes a film unenjoyable to watch. The opinions expressed in this summary are solely those of the author and not of University of Phoenix, its staff, or facilitators.
Deciding which films to watch is not challenging for this writer. Romance, erotica, action, drama, adventure, mystery, musicals, documentaries, and animated or cartoon are preferred. The aforementioned types of films or movies are preferred because they usually contain an element of humor or provide some type of comedic relief.
Enjoyable Characteristics
For a film to be enjoyable for this writer, the film(s) should contain a variety of elements to make one laugh, cry, or both; keeps one on the edge of his or her seat, and keeps one’s eyes glued to the screen in anticipation of what is to happen next. Enjoyable films keep one intrigued, attentive, and wanting to see more. Whether a sequel or just watching the film time and time again and never experiencing boredom, even after the 175th time watching it, one is still excited by what the film offers. Movies or documentaries that teach a lesson, one can learn from the contents of the film, or something of significance can be taken away from it are things that make a film or movie enjoyable for this writer.
Technical elements that make a film enjoyable as they relate to this class are the film’s plot, script, characters, actors, the setting or location are determining factors. The emotional aspects of a film or its educational value are also important factors.

Unenjoyable Characteristics
Unenjoyable films or movies are those that contain unending violence like “slasher” films that display a multitude of bloody scenes

Film Viewer Opinion Paper

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper HUM/150 December 01, 2012 Film Viewer Opinion Paper In this paper I will talk about why I choose this film. With the Movie Schindler’s List your imagination has no limits while watching it. Schindler’s List might just be one of worst movies to watch because of the horrific events that happened to the Jewish people during World War Two. A businessman named Oskar Shindler goes to a new city in Nazi-occupied Poland with the dreams of making a lot of money off the Nazis by making products with Jewish slave labor. After starting the plant Oskar start to understand what the Nazis are doing to the Jewish people and then starts to help them save their lives. I would have to say I do not think there is nothing enjoyable about the movie but was a great movie. Even with the horrific and terror on the people it was meant to be done for the reason that to give it a documentary-style of cinematography and the timeless sense of the film (Wikipedia, 2012). It was the understanding of ones love of historical films which make it enjoyable to watch. This is one of the best films ever that conveyed the real horror of the Holocaust by the Nazis. “Schindler's List blends the abject horror of the Holocaust with Steven Spielberg's signature tender humanism to create the director's dramatic masterpiece” (Rotten Tomatoes 2012). The violence in Schindler’s List is unenjoyably, which makes a lasting impression on you after watching the movie. The violence in the film...

Film Viewer Opinion Paper

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper Introduction to Film Studies With all the movies that are made not all will make it to the top. I can see where low budget movies what make the cut like most main stream movies do. But Low budget can be better than some main stream movies as long as it has a good story line. This paper I will discuss how I decide on movies I watch. Than give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable/unenjoyable to me when I’m watching them? When deciding on a movie to watch or go to it is a hard one if more than one good movie is on TV or playing in the theater. Movies all the times come out and making a decision to watch one takes some reading or watching of the trailer. But I will also decide if the movie will make me laugh, bored with it, or sit at the edge of my chair if I will watch it or not. The final things that will help me decide to watch the movie or not are the actors/actresses that are playing in the movie. To give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable what does the movie have to offer? For me an enjoyable movie has to offer many things laughter, a good story line, and action. I enjoy movies with great actor/actresses, but they must have a role that fits them. Adam Sandler, Jim Carry these are a couple of actors that I enjoy watching their movies they can make me laugh from the start of the movie. A movie with good music, if music fits the movie it makes it enjoyable since music draws people in. But even though movies can be enjoyable they...

...billboards, pamphlets, and commercials, to longer media like films and pieces of literature. Films, in particular, often exude opinions on social issues to the viewer, who can then form their own opinions on them. Not every film is effective in doing so, and they must contain certain elements in order to successfully convince others that their argument is the correct one. Films that intentionally focus on social issues are effective as long as they contain sufficient evidence, emotional components to tug at the viewer’s conscience, and an explanation to develop the importance...

Rhino Horn Controversy

...The exploitation of animals for the benefit of human well being has always been an area of controversy in the eyes of the greater human population. This film focuses its attention primarily on the illegal poaching and selling of the ivory of elephants and horns of rhinos in South Africa and Kenya that leads to the purchasing of these products in Vietnam and China. These are animals that were once abundant in these areas, but in the recent years have been rapidly declining which has, as a result, caused a rapid increase in the price of ivory and rhino horn. The increase in price of rhino horn and ivory creates an increase in demand of this product. This is a huge problem because the increase in demand of ivory and rhino horn will most likely lead to the extinction of these two animals. The aim of this film is to educate people on this issue, so that they will not further the problem by participating in it. The main way that...

...like a Man to present and analyze because, I thought the movie was absolute hilarious. The plot of the movie is based off a novel written by Steve Harvey Act Like a Lady, Think Like a man. The film was released on April 20, 2012. The plot of the movie attracted me to the movie along with the star studded cast. Culver City played host to the movie Think Like a Man. The head of production Glenn Gainor came up with the ideal to use Culver City so they could get the local politicians and shop owners involved. The producer Glenn Gainor thought it would be a great ideal to give the community of Culver City a chance to showcase what the city had to offer. When production of the film started Screen Gems considered filming in Georgia, because it offered a richer film tax credit than California. However the company decided to film locally in part, because it was able to save money filming so close to home. By filming close to home the company cut cost on parking and transportation. The producer got the chamber of commerce on board, the chamber of commerce help enlisted the local business willing to showcase their establishments in the film this resulted in a lower film permit fee for the company and the local business received some recognition as a result of their establishment appearing in the film. The producer’s motivation to shoot in Culver City was inspired by how movies use to be filmed. The producers wanted to capture a hometown modern day romance with this movie, and with the use...

Film Reviewer

...Film Viewer Opinion Billy Green University of Phoenix Introduction to Film Studies HUM/159 Wendy Hamilton February 19, 2011 Film Viewer Opinion In today’s society, there are many different film types to watch. The different films range from the Disney movies that you may show your preschoolers and elementary kids to PG-13 movies that may be appropriate for the middle school age and high school age to the rated R movies that may be appropriate for adults only. Within all these rated films you can find action, suspense, drama, Sci-Fi, horror, comedy, musical, and many more types. Even though there are many different films for different types of viewers: drama, action, suspense are my favorite films because they can be very eye-catching and these films keep my attention. I decide on most of the films that I watch based on the type of film produced by the filmmaker and others. For example, being as though I personally know I am not a supporter of Sci-Fi movies, I wouldn’t entertain the fact of showing interest in viewing that type of films. I usually tend to stick to the movie type that I am interested within and looking at the previews can play a huge decision maker whether or not I would view the film. Ninety percent of the films that I have viewed were introduced to me by watching to preview first. I usually can determine whether or not the film would be of my interest after viewing the previews. I am mostly interested by drama, action, and suspense films...

Blade Runner

...were only meant to live for a limited amount of time, so they returned to Earth in search of a longer life span. This film is ultimately centered around artificial intelligence, personal identity, and skepticism. The filmmakers used brilliant cinematography, production, design, and editing to make Blade Runner a thought provoking film. The cinematography of the film was truly what allowed the director to display how he wanted viewers to comprehend his work without noticing it. Light, specifically, was a major factor in influencing viewer’s moods throughout the film. The strong channels of light and backlighting is reminiscent of black and white movies, and although the film is set in 2020 this makes the film closely resemble a film straight out of the 1940s. The use of shafts of light, unusual camera angles, and high contrast were the factors giving it this effect. High contrast and backlighting gave the film a gloomy mood, and the rain and lightning only added to this. Ultimately, while Decker is on the streets it is clear that the director purposefully made the streets feel overcrowded. The people were packed into the streets, like ants, making them all appear the same. It seemed as if they were all going around in circles, going nowhere, and essentially just a part of the flow. Although the people on the streets seemed colorless and meaningless to the film, the streets were flooded with colorful neon light. Although these lights were the brightest things on the screen, it...

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper Francis F Perkins HUM/150 May seventh 2012 Carole Ricotta Film Viewer Opinion Paper I decide to watch a film from the film trailer’s that are advertised on television. I enjoy science fiction movies and if a science fiction movie is coming I will try to watch it’ I enjoy movies with a large amount of action and violence in it. I will watch other movies and am surprised that I enjoyed them. A so called “chick flick” is not really my choice but have enjoyed them when I am dragged to see one. Some of the favorite films are “Close Encounters of the third Kind” and “ET.” I will watch the movies that are advertised on television before I will go see the film. If the trailer for the film has a much action in it I will go watch the film. I have watched films that looked exciting on television, and they turned out to be duds. I go to the movies I like to be entertained and not given something to think about. What make a film enjoyable to me are many parts of the film. If the acting is good and the actors make he or she believe that the action is really going on, and it makes the film enjoyable. Special effects in a film can make or break a film if I believe what is happening. Some films are made too dark, and it makes it hard to see what is going on in the film so lighting is important in a film. Of course a good plot line in a film is important with many twists and turns in a film makes it interesting. A good murder mystery or horror movie with many...

Breakfast Club Review

...small mixed group consists of jock Andrew (Emilio Estevaz), who is insane about sports; nerdy Brian (Antony Michael Hall), whose aim is to get straight A’s at any cost; princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), who conceitedly trying to prove that she does not belong to the company; kook Alison (Ally Sheedy), that surprise everyone by her outstanding acting; and rebellious criminal John Bender (Judd Nelson), that demonstrates indifference and toughness. The movie, written and directed by genius of teen comedies John Hughes and produced with the help of Ned Tanen, represents a perfect mix of a joyful comedy and profound drama. To begin with, the situation represented in the film is quite realistic, except for the fact that such different people gathered together in the same place and at the same time. However, the viewer can consider that as a miraculous coincidence, which often happens in real life. Still, clear representation of youth problems, their behaviour and attitude to each other does not let us doubt that John Hughes has a subtle understanding of teenage psychology. As we can see in the movie, students stereotype each other at first without trying to find the reasons of such comportment. After a while, when they all conflict with their common enemy, principal Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason), and discover common desire to leave the place, they start to get along and even help...

Biases Present in Blackfish

...linked to the deaths of three individuals while being kept in captivity. The film, told largely by five former SeaWorld trainers, uses highly emotional footage to portray Tilikum as an animal that has been negatively impacted by his life at SeaWorld. Blackfish is advertised as a documentary but, in reality, is little more than propaganda, and rather than providing impartial and balanced information, the film uses inaccurate and deceptive facts in a clear example of how bias is used in the media to portray a certain view to the audience. The film misrepresents the orca species as a whole by saying that "they're amazingly friendly and understanding and intuitively want to be your companion." This implies that killer whales are naturally amicable and respectful to humans. Blackfish shows footage of an orca interacting with a dog to justify this statement, but does not explain that the orca shown in that video was an abandoned juvenile named Luna who had been living in Nootka Sound for five years, where he was constantly exposed to human presence and activity. The interactions with Luna that are shown in the film are not an accurate representation of the average, well-adjusted, pod-dwelling orca. This footage is shown out of context and makes the false claim that killer whales, as a whole, are more wary of human presence and generally keep to themselves in natural conditions to skew the viewer's opinion and understanding of normal orca behavior in the wild. Blackfish criticizes...

Contemporary Documentary

...Abby Simon CMCL-C 392 Paper 1 When deciding which genre I was going to choose I went over some debate in my head. I of course wanted to write about something that interested me, but also something that was shocking for me to watch never really knowing the history. I decided to analyze the films They Call It Pro Football and The Two Escobars. Having never seen either of these films before and being a huge sports fan I was very intrigued. Each come from different times, but have many similar and different aspects that I found. They Call It Pro Football came out in 1966 and was made by a company called NFL Films. To this day they are still creating incredible pieces of sports work. In my opinion the overall goal of this film is to show the tensions, community, and reality of football. This film to me took us into the field very well by giving us great audio of the players and coaches as well as certain fans in the audience. By giving us a first-hand look at how coaches interact with referees and how the players interact with each other we get to see how much tension builds up, but how exciting it is for the viewers. We also get to see some behind the scenes looks into the announcing booths and how even if you aren’t sitting with the general population in the stands, the same feeling of happiness comes over you if your team does well. The argument that I feel is trying to be made is how great football is in general. The descriptions of the atmosphere and the players themselves...
