Beutel Int'L Equity Fund

...Assignment 1 BEUTEL GOODMAN INT’L EQUITY FUND FINA 411 – SECTION C presented to Abraham I. Brodt by anonymous John Molson School of Business October 15th 2014 Executive Summary Description of Beutel Goodman Int’l Equity With total assets of $134.8 million, the Beutel Goodman International Equity fund has produced an annual return of 4.41% since its inception in August 1992. This fund is not managed by a separate entity; the sponsor is also the manager. In charge of portfolio management, KC Parker (CFA) and Colin Ramkissoon have chosen to invest in a variety of different equity sectors such as consumer discretionary, financials, materials, energy, and many more. Equity comes mainly from British companies (UK), Japanese companies and Norwegian firms. The purpose of this fund is to seek long-term enhancement of capital, primarily through investments in common stocks of non-North American based companies. Beutel Goodman Int’l exhibits a relatively lower MER than the average international equity fund, standing at 1.48%, as opposed to the average of 2.54%. The funds top ten holdings represent 42.56% of the total portfolio and come from fairly varied sectors. None of these top ten holdings are from the same sector, and only three of them come from the same geographical area (Japan). Perhaps these varied holdings explain the perfect correlation that this fund has with its benchmark index: the MSCI EAFE (According to the Globe & Mail, 3......

...Strategy Template.dot Strategy INDIA INDIA June 28, 2010 BSE-30:17,575 The 100 Billion Dollar Club. We analyze Indian companies and their attributes such as (1) IPR (brand and technology), (2) financial and industrial assets and (3) natural resources that can propel them to US$100 bn market capitalization over a period of time. We also look at global experience to draw conclusions for India; every decade throws up new and interesting names. Finally, we assess operating factors that are required to achieve and sustain US$100 bn market capitalization. Asset-based companies: A few banks can and will get there Other than financial services companies, we are skeptical of any other asset-based company entering the US$100 bn league from India. Asset-based companies require constant reinvestment to grow and return on invested capital is not high enough in ‘mature’ businesses to create meaningful value. Most will trade at and around book value. IPR-based companies: A rarity in India and will likely remain so Infosys and TCS can make it to the US$100 bn league on a 15-16% CAGR in earnings up to FY2021E and 14-15X P/E multiple. However, their headcount-led services business could face issues of (1) scalability, (2) manpower and (3) margin pressure. We don’t see circumstances changing meaningfully in India for creation of large IPR-based companies. Resource-based companies: Few candidates but right policies critical RIL and ONGC are obvious candidates to get to US$100 bn......

Abstract In the ever so increasingly competitive business climate of the 21st century, human resources are vital for corporate success. Employees need proper incentives to perform in goal-oriented manners. Incentive systems, especially Chief Executive Officer [CEO] remunerations, have been a popular topic since the 1990s, and this tendency has increased both during the 2002-2003 corporate scandal era, as well as the financial crisis which sparked in 2007. ...The Representation of Gender in Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and Jeffrey Eugenides’s Middlesex by Marte Rognstad A Thesis Presented to The Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages University of Oslo In Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the MA Degree Spring Term 2012 Marte Rognstad The Representation of Gender in Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and Jeffrey Eugenides’s Middlesex Marte Rognstad http://www.duo.uio.no Trykk: Reprosentralen, Universitetet i Oslo Abstract This thesis presents an exploration of the representation of gender in Virginia Woolf’s Orlando and Jeffrey Eugenides’s Middlesex mainly in light of the theories of Judith Butler. The focus will be on how the two novels challenge the traditional concept of gender and gender categories, and in what ways the novels can give us new perspectives on the concept of gender. The theoretical focus will be on Judith Butler, more precisely her idea of gender as performance, and her deconstructionist approach to identity categories. I will present Butler’s proposal for a “new feminist genealogy,” and through my investigation of the representation of gender in Orlando and Middlesex I will show how both novels take on a “Butlerian” understanding of the concept of gender. By looking at various issues related to gender explored in the two novels, and pointing to similarities and differences between the two works, I hope to show how the protagonists, Orlando and Cal/lie, break down and transcend the......
