Final Exam (Part 2)

Researching a Career Path
I chose the Protective Security Specialist (PSS) as my career path choice. I chose the PSS path due to the fact that it was one specific area of my past experience that was lacking and it has positions all over the world through the Worldwide Protective Services (WPS) Program (formally known as the Worldwide Personal Protective Services (WPPS) Program). My initial research began with people I worked with on a Static Security project in a high threat area. I soon found out that there were a few large companies, and projects, that would serve as a starting point. Aegis, DynCorp, Global, Triple Canopy, and US Training Center were the major players in the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security Program. I spoke with work colleagues that have worked for one, or numerous, of the aforementioned companies. I was mostly interested in the areas of company vision, work beliefs, and compensation plans along with the individuals’ point of view. I then began an internet search of my top 3 picks (Global, Triple Canopy, and US Training Center). I researched news articles of specific incidents, public views, and awarded contracts. Public forum sites, such as SOCNet, provided a valuable resource on how different companies were viewed & operated by, and at, the lower levels. My final task was the research of each of the company’s specific website; focusing on mission statement, focus, and plans for the future. Networking, on sites such as Linkin & CareerBuilder, played a key role in securing a position with my first choice; Academi (formally known as US Training Center / Xe Services).

CSO Response to Theft in the Shipping & Receiving Department
I believe my first action would be to actually confirm the reports of the stolen products with the Shipping & Receiving Department head. At the confirmation of a loss, I would begin the investigation by interviewing the individuals whom made the initial reports. The interviews could be one-on-one and possibly done covertly; as in a simple ‘chance meeting conversation’. I would then begin reviewing the procedures at the lowest level in that department to see if there was a single point of failure in the current system. I would attempt cloak this investigation as much as possible to ensure that I did not “tip my hand” to the perpetrator(s). Now, if the loss was great enough, I would hire & insert an uncover specialist into the Shipping & Receiving Department with a clear timeline, reporting requirement, and set of objectives for this operation. After learning the loss is occurring after hours, I would immediately launch an investigation into the night time security shift and its procedures, once again done covertly. At the same time I would plan and implement a sting operation in order to apprehend the perpetrator(s); possibly involving local police authorities.
Upon the successful apprehension of the perpetrator(s), I would develop & implement a reward program for the prevention of loss in the organization. If one already exists, a review of that program would be needed.

Executive Protection Program for the AB Company
Initially I would ask that the CSO for the client company provide a clear set of expectations. A thorough threat assessment and cost-benefit analysis should be conducted and identify what services should be required and to whom (e.g. threat briefs, awareness briefs, and awareness training, and protection details).
The selection of the Protection Details and their assigned principal has to be intricately matched. Executive Protection (EP) Details are not just muscle-bound thugs. It is paramount that the EP individual has the ability to blend in with the status of the principal; even be able to carry on a conversation at the level of the principal if needed. EP Detail members & team leaders need to be personnel that can inherently make calculated decisions very rapidly and adapt to a changing environment.
The Program Outline: I. Principal (client) Identification II. Threat Assessment / Analysis III. Executive Protection (EP) Detail Selection a. EP to Principal matching b. EP Duties i. Qualifications / Certifications / Maintaining currencies ii. Duration / Type of Protection 1. 24 hr protection 2. Place of Business Only 3. Travel: to & from work 4. Distant Travel 5. Venues 6. Advance Team Operations IV. Principal Training c. Working with an EP Detail d. Principal / Family: Duties, Responsibilities, Coverage e. Threat awareness briefs f. Emergency Action Plans iii. Briefs iv. Training / Rehearsals V. Contract between EP Organization & Client Company g. Duration h. Services provided i. Termination criteria j. Compensation Plan

Why a College Education Is Important to Me

...Is the importance of a college education for a lifetime of knowledge, a career, or a directional map of the path for your life? A college education is all of these choices and then some. My choice to gain an education is for the establishment of a professional, personal, and financial foundation. My success also depends on this decision. Success is measured differently for each individual, but for me it’s measured by the opportunities afforded through receiving an education. In today’s economy, knowledge is not something I decided to have; I found it as being something that is essential to gain. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, between 1980 and 2005 “young adults with at least a bachelor’s degree consistently had higher median earnings than those with less education” (Kirstina). Obtaining knowledge through a college education is of utmost importance to me. I will be the first in my family to graduate college with degree of knowledge. Knowledge is so vast that there is no exact definition to define it. The definition of knowledge for me, is acquiring information and skills to prepare me for life’s obstacles. One of life’s greatest obstacles that knowledge renders you for, is success in a profession or trade. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts net job growth of almost 3 million health care jobs in the decade ending in 2029, a 29 percent increase over other groups” (Katherine)....

Gathering Research Data Paper

...They have sworn to protect the innocent and keep them from harm’s way and in turn do much more than that for their community. It takes an extraordinaire person to be a police officer. They are someone who is willing to dedicate their lives, health and safety in order to protect those who depend on them. In this paper we will attempt to address and research an interest that has been voiced concerning police officers and their jobs. In this paper we will state the purpose behind our proposed research. We will inform you of the interview structure we will use and we will inform you as to some of the questions that we would ask. We will give distinct advantages of a qualitative data-gathering strategy, such as participant observation, over more qualitative approaches. We will inform you when conducting survey research the importance of informed consent and confidentiality. It is a common conception that police officers choose their particular career path simply because they are inheriting a family member’s desire. They choose to be an officer because their father or their mother or a relative was an officer. It is a common conception that officers are not chosen they are inherited and expected to be from family. This area of interest is something that would be well suited for that of research and a study. How many police officers performing duties today have had a family member who was also a police officer?...

Personal Development

...The Graduate Marketplace Done and Mulvey (2011 p.31) state that the labour market can be subdivided into sectors, making it easier to focus on. These sectors can be defined by ‘occupational grouping, geographical territory or by shared characteristics in the workplace, for example, graduates.’ Defining sectors is a way of being able to examine the labour market in more detail, and helpful in getting a hold of relevant information. The graduate labour market is a distinct sector within the labour market which simply means ‘the demand is for graduate level jobs, for which the jobseeker must have an undergraduate degree.’ According to Done and Mulvey (2011 p.5) ‘The basic principle of the graduate labour market is that two equally important elements must be in place for the market to work, namely: supply and demand.’ The market place for graduate employment is vast, and there are a number of different opportunities in all disciplines available for students who have just finished university and are seeking graduate employment. There are various websites and publications that are specifically targeted towards graduates by only advertising vacancies from companies who are offering graduate positions. Websites such as Rate My Placement are a good online source to use as they list the top 75 employees for graduate opportunities. The Times (2013) also list the top 100 graduate employers which are updated on a yearly. However, according to The Independent (2011) the number of......

Field Project Assignment

...Choose your topic: Career Related: Interview people currently working in the field you intend to enter following graduation. You could choose to interview an entry level person and one or two people who have had more experience. You might want to know techniques for breaking into the field, what the job would entail on a day to day basis, trends, challenges, typical career paths, etc. Problem Solving: Talk to counselors on/off campus to identify ways to approach solving a personal dilemma or challenge (e.g., whether or not to go to grad' school, study abroad, change majors, start a business, quit drinking, smoking), or check with a social worker or city official who deal with real-life daily problems that require workable solutions. Class Related: Tie in the interviews you conduct for this class with another class project. You will still need to do the post analysis to conform to the expectations for this class, but at least the time interviewing as part of gathering material for your research will be doubly productive. In the past, for example, students have looked at assessing the experiences of hearing impaired students on campus, differing management styles of supervisors, and what court appointed special advocates (CASA) do. Personal Interest: Do you have a topic about which you're just interested in finding out more information? One student interviewed a friend in prison to find out what it was...
