The objective of this research paper is to define: the scope of the problem, impact of abuse, statistical research and the current processes of social change in Canada. “A social problem is a social condition that a segment of society views as harmful to members of the society or in need of remedy.” (Mooney, Knox, & Schacht, 2000 pp. 2-3) Scope of Problem: “Domestic violence has been a problem for a long time. English law stated that it was acceptable for a man to beat his wife as long as the stick he used was no bigger than his thumb. That's where the phrase "rule of thumb" comes from.” (Sullivan & Algonquin College, n.d, pg.1, para.1) There have been theories that abuse comes from a feeling of lack of control, lack of power or due to a cycle of abuse in the perpetrator's life. Although the theories are plentiful, what is not subjective are the emotional and physical scars the partners endure. Regrettably, our society has become a breed for domestic violence in Canada. It is hard to turn away from the epidemic that women in our communities face. They feature an assortment of coffees, teas, pastries, sweets, sandwiches, and ice cream. Many of the locals use Café Firefly to host their funding events. Wade Merritt purchased Café Firefly in October 2011. He created a line and staff structured company. Wade is the owner and most of the decisions go through him. He has an accountant to take care of the books. He also has staffing of three waitresses and one baker whom make all those wonderful cakes one would see when they first walk in. These cakes make people return for more. Let us look at the structure visibly of the company.
