First Game I will be talking about my first baseball game at Angel Stadium. I am writing this paper to share with you my experience being at Angel Stadium for the first time. For my girlfriend and I’s anniversary she surprised me with Angel Tickets! They were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers and I was super happy because it was going to be my first Angel game and it was going to be an intense game! The game was around 6pm but we got there really early so that we could tail gate! I have never really tail gated but that day I felt like I did. It was so fun and everyone was having a good time drinking and listening to music playing small games like bag toss or playing catch with a football! Once we started walking to the stadium I couldn’t help but feel a little bit excited because everyone was so pumped up to beat the dodgers. Along the way to our seats that had so many different banners of the players like Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and anyone else that was on the team or a retired player of the Angels, but right when I walked through that entrance all I could smell was popcorn, hot dogs, pretzels, anything you could imagine they had! It was like a dream come true and my girlfriend and I being how we are get everything they had. We got kettle corn, ice cream, soda’s, a pretzel, and to top it off a nice pink cotton candy. Once we sat down the game was about to start the first thing I said when the angels were up to bat was bet you Mike Trout hits a home run and she said no he’ll probably get struck out, 3 seconds later, SMACK. Mike Trout with a home run over center field the crowd goes absolutely CRAZY. Im talking like the stadium felt like it was shaking crazy. After that the game was rather slow but definitely had a lot of amazing plays in it but the most exciting was when Angels were down 3-2 in the 8th inning with 2 players on base and Josh Hamilton

Development of the First Olympic Games

...Development of the First Olympic Games It was Pierre de Coubertin of France who dreamt up this ambitious project, although others before him had tried to revive these Games during the 19th century, without having Couperin’s success. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Olympic Games, he decided to create the modern Olympic Games. With this purpose, he founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 in Paris. The new committee set itself the objective of organizing the first Olympic Games of modern times. In 1896, more than 1,500 years after the ancient Games were banned; the first modern Olympic Games featured many references to this legacy of Greek Antiquity. The IOC’s decision to hold them in Athens (Greece) was a reminder that the Olympic Games originated in Greece. The majority of the competitions took place in the ancient stadium (the Panathenaic Stadium), which was restored for the occasion. Most of the sports on the programme of the ancient Olympic Games were echoed in the modern Games. The organizers even went as far as inventing a new race, inspired by a legendary event: the marathon race. In ancient times, the Games were held first on one day and finally over five days. The 245 participants in Athens in 1896 came from 14 different countries and participated in forty three different events. As at the ancient Games, the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 were an exclusively male preserve. When women made their Olympic debut four years later at the 1900 Games in Paris...

Even though I was a sophomore, I was on the lineup for the penalty kicks. There were two sophomores, one junior, and two seniors. I was third in line to shoot. The First Modern Day Olympic Games

...possible; just as it was in Ancient Greece with the polis or city-states. Olympic Games were held throughout Ancient Greece, but the most famous are the games that were held in Olympia in honor of Zeus every four years from August 6th to September 19th. The first record of these games is of one Coroebus of Elis, a cook, winning a sprint race in 776 BC. Most historians believe the games to have been going on for approximately 500 years before this. In the year Coroebus was made a part of history, there was apparently only one simple event, a race called the stade. The track was said to be one stade long or roughly 210 yards. In subsequent games, additional events were to be added, most likely to increase the challenge to these amazing athletes. In 724 BC, the diaulos, a two stade race, was added, followed by a long distance race, about 2 1/4 miles and called the dolichos, at the next games four years later. Wrestling and the famous Pentathlon were introduced in 708 BC. The Pentathlon consisted of five events; the long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, foot race, and wrestling. The Pentathlons, especially the successful ones, were often treated and even worshipped like gods. Because of their exquisite physiques, they were used as the models for statues of the Greek Gods. The superior athletic ability of these athletes affects the games even today. The twisting and throwing method of the discus throw, which originated...

First Person Shooter Games in Real Life

...First person Shooter Games First Person Shooter Games in Real Life Jason Campbell English 121 Deborah Zeringue 6/4/12 First Person Shooter Games in Real Life Shooter games have been around since man made the first projectile weapons, and his children tried to emulate the hunt. From running around with sticks, pretending to shoot the other kids, to the more evolved forms we have today. Today there are a variety of these types of games, though mainly these games are found on entertainment consoles. To experience these types of games for yourself in real life, without the controller, there are two to choose from, Airsoft or Paintball, and while similar, have many key differences, such as equipment used, projectiles, and game formats. Airsoft and paintball both have very similar game formats, and type of equipment used. Paintball utilizes a weapon called a “marker” to propel a paint filled gelatin shell ball using compressed air or CO2, while an airsoft weapon, called a “replica”, uses battery power to fire a 6mm plastic BB from a very realistic looking weapon. Projectiles fired from the paintball marker are used to hit the other players and mark them with paint, and when they are hit, they are out of that current game by being called “dead”. The same goes with airsoft as well, but as there is no paint, it relies on the “honor system” or to call out when you have been hit. The team that still has players considered...

Seven Habbits of Highly Effective People

... 2/2/2014 | I was inspired by Stephen R. Covey’s, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The 7 Habits have encouraged me to rethink how I was looking at the world and it has changed how I plan to move forward in my life. Covey defines a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. Knowledge is the what to do and why, skill is the how to do, and desire is the motivation or want to do, “In order to make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three”, (Covey 55). Covey describes the Maturity Continuum which moves us progressively from dependence to independence to interdependence. The 7 Habits are tools which provide an approach to the development of personal and interpersonal effectiveness. Part 1 The first three habits focus on transitioning from dependence to independence, the mastery of self. Each of us begins life as an infant. We are completely dependent upon others to care for us. “They gradually, over the ensuing months and years, we become more independent- physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially-until eventually we can essentially take care of ourselves, becoming inner-directed and self-reliant”, (Covey 57), it is in our nature to transition to independence. Wikipedia.org summarizes The 7 Habits in correlation to each phase, beginning with self-mastery. Habit 1: Be Proactive describes how to take initiative in life by understanding how our decisions are determining factors for effectiveness in your life. Covey encourages...

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

...Highly Effective People, written by Stephen R. Covey, I learned that I need to work on some things, if I want to be successful. I need to set specific goals because goals are what drive people to be successful. Covey talks about a “Paradigm Shift” and wants his readers to change their mindset. He proposes seven habits that effective people portray throughout their life and he wants everybody to pick these up in order to be more successful. The two habits that I am going to focus on are Habit 1: Be Proactive, and Habit 4: Think Win-Win. I want to focus on these two because when reading about these two, I feel that if I can improve these habits, I can bolster my mindset/life. I feel that everybody can be more proactive. This is Covey’s first habit. This habit discusses that your decisions are the primary factor for determining effectiveness in your life. You have to take responsibility for your choices and the consequences that follow your decisions. You choose if you are happy or sad. Every second that you live, you decide what you are doing with your life. Covey then says that if you’re not happy with your life, change it. It only takes one decision. However, it starts with one decision but that one may trigger a bunch of others. You cannot blame everything on your parents or grandparents. Covey talks about two different people in this chapter. There are proactive and reactive people. Proactive people realize that they are responsible for their lives. They take full...

How to Manage Your Time.

...chaotic sometimes. One way to avoid feeling stressed is to have a game plan ready. A serious weakness with this argument, however, is that this is difficult to manage their time. Therefore, the main questions addressed in this essay are: a) why it works; b) what hinders proper for planning time; c) how I plan my time. There are various explanations for why planning is so important to our time. Time management is necessary to perform maximum efficiencies. For example, when you study at university you do not have time to do all necessary things and the best students is not necessarily the smartest. So if you will be able to plan your time, the mood will be good and scores will be high. More generally, it seems hard to deny that the planning time is difficult in use. A classic illustration often cited is that people cannot do all they have planned. On those days when you have a lot to do, prioritizing can help you get things done in a more efficient manner. When you find ways to prioritize, you might find that some things are more important than others, and that some can be crossed off your list of deals completely. What sort of picture do these considerations allow us to construct? Let us say you did the priorities of their affairs. Now you need to plan every thing in time. One observer has already drawn attention to the paradox in planning time. His name is Stephen Covey. In his book “First thing first” he said that daily planning is inefficient method in our case. When...

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

...THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE ~ BY STEPHEN COVEY THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE HABIT 1 : BE PROACTIVE Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. you choose sadness. you choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results. Habit 1: Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. You can't keep blaming everything on your parents or grandparents. Proactive people recognize that they are "response-able." They don't blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. They know they choose their behavior. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their physical environment. They find external sources to blame for their behavior. If the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn't, it affects their attitude and performance, and they blame the weather. All of these external forces act as stimuli that we respond to. Between the stimulus and the response is your greatest power--you have the freedom to choose your response. One of the most important things you choose is what you say. Your language is a good indicator of how you see yourself. A proactive person...

How to Manage Time for College

...How to Manage Your Time Tisha Wingate ITT Technical Institute How to Manage Your Time During a person’s life, the need to prioritize their time at one point or another is a necessity. Having deadlines with work, children’s after-school activities, family life and/or illnesses, and going back to school; all of these situations call for a better scheduling of time. This paper will be focusing on managing time to go back to school for most adults using Stephen Covey’s articles about time management. As adults, having a set routine to get through the day is very helpful. However, when adding college into the mix, everything can feel out of kilter and overwhelming. If a day-to-day or a monthly calendar/schedule was at a person’s fingertips, and it was setup to show all aspects of their life’s responsibilities, much of the stress could disappear. Stephen Covey was a world-renowned author of time management in today’s world. During his life, he wrote numerous articles and books that covered how to schedule a person’s time to assist in making the most of every minute in their life count properly. His book entitled The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, if one follows will help turn completely disorganized and overwhelmed people into a fully-functional-know- what-I-am-doing organized and on-top-of-each-situation person. Starting with the most important habit, Be Proactive, which means to be prepared for the unseen and being able to adjust to what life throws at a person....

How Strong Is The Power Of Habit Duhigg

...The Most Powerful of Habit How strong is the power of habit? Each person has different ideas about what the answer is. But many successful men have similar habits. As the prominent Roman philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero puts it, “The powerful is the force of habit.” In addition, The British economist John Maynard Keynes also says,“Habit forms character, and character decide fortune.” In other words, each person's fate is determined by habit. But at this point Duhigg would like to raise some possible objections; he points out that, “Habits aren’t destiny, habits can be ignored, changed, or replaced”(Duhigg 13). In this book, The Power of Habit, Duhigg maintains that “Habits emerge because the brain is constantly looking for ways to save effort....

First Things First

...employee/ customer satisfaction, and often profitability. This can only be achieved through concise planning, high efficiency, and a bit of luck. We must begin with a focus; all organizations operate with a goal in mind. It is human nature in that we must have some sort of shiny gold star or an orchestra of applause and accolades to motivate us in order to thrive in our endeavors. How we come to achieve our goals is based on motivations and effectiveness. Stephen Covey’s book, First Things First looks at time management strategies and how one can best achieve effectiveness and therefore succeed in obtaining their goals Covey’s approach to effectiveness works with two very important dynamics in mind illustrated by the clock and the compass. There has to be reasonable amount of resources available as we contend with our aspirations or else one will face stress and frustrations hindering one in their pursuits therefore some self analysis and planning is required. “Our struggle to put first things first can be characterized by the contrast between two powerful tools that direct us: the clock and the compass. The clock represents our commitments, appointments, schedules, goals, activities what we do with, and how we manage our time. The compass represents our vision, values, principals, mission, conscious, direction—what we feel is important and how we lead our lives.” (Covey 20) As Covey illustrates with the clock, time is a very important part of our lives. We live by schedules...
