First Practicum Experience

I read the following statement, "The first asylum was built in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1770 (right near where I work now!) and provided “care” for those suffering from mental illnesses (Shi & Singh, 2019)." I zeroed in on that statement as I perused the assigned reading too. My first practicum experience was at Eastern State Hospital in 1992 - 1993. My assignment was with the geriatric population. Moreover, I attended and participated in their multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. As a clinical counselor in an emergency room setting in my latter career in Gastonia, North Carolina, it was not uncommon to help facilitate transfer to Eastern State Hospital for mental health treatment for clients who did not have health insurance.

...The practicum report is an integral part of the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM) of the Dominican College of Tarlac (DCT). It is intended to provide students learning experiences and the application of knowledge and skills in hospitality industry settings. The practicum is a co-operative education which aims to achieve an effective blend of classroom study and off-campus work experience in hospitality-related industry. The goal of the practicum is to prepare the student for competent and responsible practice. A successful practicum is one that achieves that goal. The BSHRM of the Dominican College of Tarlac considers the practicum training to be among the most important professional preparation activities in which BSHRM students participate. Practicum experiences are intended to allow students to synthesize, apply and refine knowledge and skills learned in their academic experiences. In addition, practicum experiences are one of the primary ways in which department faculty members can observe and evaluate the skills of the student. Reflectuve Overview

...Reflective Overview My practicum this quarter was EXSC 495A, which meant I was to work in a Fitness Center/Club, so I chose to work with Shayne Wittkopp in the CWU Recreation Center. When first thinking about what I wanted to accomplish I asked myself; what are my goals of this experience and what do I personally want to get out of it? I wrote down some objectives to help guide myself throughout the quarter and to make sure I was getting the most out of this practicum. A few I wrote down were: to gain a better understanding of how the fitness industry works and operates, to see how a group fitness class should be taught, and to get an understanding of what it takes to be a successful personal trainer in the fitness industry. Sitting here, at the end of my practicum I can gladly say that I achieved all of these objectives and then some. I had such a great experience working with Shayne Wittkopp because he really did a great job of explaining how things worked and how they should be in terms of teaching a class or instructing clients. In the beginning I was pretty nervous to go out there and help him teach his classes because I had just never really done something like that. As the quarter progressed I became more and more comfortable with reaching out and helping the people who were taking the classes by instructing them on their form and what they could improve on. By the end of the practicum I had even taught my own class and had my own one on one client and I can thank Shayne...

Difficulties Encountered by Accounting Students in Their on-the Job Training

...THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS Introduction of the Study A student apprenticeship program is an organized course training plan carefully intended to transfer relevant knowledge, skills, and outlooks within a designated period of time from a proficient practitioner in a precise field of study or profession to a novice student who preferably has completed a speculative program study. In some cases, schools call this an apprenticeship program, practicum program, or on the-job training program. They all mean the similar thing and the general purpose is to keep an eye on a common thread. Apprenticeship is similarly a professional relationship between a student (the apprentice) and a skillful professional (the trainer or mentor), in which the student is obliged to diligently conform and learn from the expert professional. On the other hand, the expert professional is pleased to facilitate the learning procedure by exposing the apprentice to a carefully planned program of casual instruction, diverse set of meaningful work experiences, and a fair valuation of learning outcomes through applied tests. They also say that for a comprehensive and effective program of a study, a sound student apprenticeship program is necessary to be able to develop a well-rounded and competent graduate ready to embark on a professional career. The components of a sound student apprenticeship program are preparatory activities, student placement mechanism, monitoring system and evaluation process. ...

They helped me as much as they can and also gave me motivation and encouragement to push on no matter how demoralised or tired I feel. To complicated things, one of my family members was hospitalised during this period due to a viral infection. I had to rush to hospital every night if I dun have any night class.
