The first action Fitbit Inc. needs to do is establish an internal comprehensive security platform, This has two aspects, one is to enhance encryption practices, another aspect is improve the company’s security culture to educate and train all Fitbit Inc.’s employees about the importance and risk of customer data security (Toubba, 2006).
Encryption is a security approach that can help users to scramble all content of systems and documents. In this case, only authorized viewers who have key can read the protected information. Using professional IT security activities to improve company’s data encryption is important. We should focus on word “all”, it means take customer privacy as a problem for whole company rather than just a simple IT problem. Many company treat data security as responsibility only for IT department, but this is a completely wrong idea. Actually IT employees are not the only person who is in touch with customer data. Other employee like sales, accountants etc. also have access to data. All those employees should be informed, trained and comply the relevant company security policy as well as trained for cyber-attack knowledges to avoid from hacking incidents. Make sure Fitbit Inc.’s employees always know how to deal with unusual data accident. For example, in many case, if employee’s email password stolen, there is a possibility that password for working account also stolen. So to avoid risk in this situation we can asking Fitbit Inc.’s employees to set up two-step verification protection. By enhance company’s data encryption practices and training employ that we can greatly protect customer data privacy, only when Fitbit Inc. fully trusted by customer that can Fitbit Inc. have a rapid response and agile development
