Forest Gump Book vs Movie
Although there seem to be more differences between the book and the movie of Forrest Gump, there are still many similarities between the two. Forrest was raised by only his mother; they lived in the same big white house renting rooms out to travelers. Forrest does earn a scholarship to play running back for the University of Alabama football team. He meets the love of his life, Jenny Curran in first grade and later on they get married after Jenny went through some violent relationships. Forrest meets his best friend Bubba and they have dreams of opening up a shrimping business when they get out of the army. Bubba later on dies in the army with Forrest by his side. In memory of Bubba, when Forrest gets out of the army he buys a big shrimping boat and starts the shrimping business him and Bubba dreamed of. Even though Forrest wasn’t able to save Bubba’s life, he did rescue his lieutenant. His name was Dan, lieutenant Dan. When they were both put in the hospital together after Forrest was shot in the “Buttocks” running away from the enemies, they became good friends. While at the hospital, when Forrest had free time he would go fool around and play Ping-Pong having no intentions to be good until he realized how good he had gotten. After a while Forrest’s name was getting around and becoming well known. After a while he becomes a world-class Ping-Pong player.

Between the book and the movie of Forrest Gump, there were more differences than I expected. I had already seen the movie a few years back so I had pictured Forrest as an average Tom Hanks looking guy before reading the novel. After further reading of the book, I found that by the time Forrest was sixteen years old, he had grown to be six-foot-six, two-hundred and forty-two pounds. That surprised me very much. In the movie, Forrest had to wear braces on his legs to keep his crooked spine in place as a child. One day Forrest was walking home with Jenny Curran, some bullies were riding on their bikes chasing Forrest and throwing rocks at him. Jenny told Forrest to run; Forrest tried to run but was being held back because of his braces. Forrest knew he had to get away so he pushed through and his legs magically broke out of the braces. When his braces flew off he was one of the fastest people you’d ever seen. Forrest never knew he could run so fast, neither did anyone else. He got away from the bullies, and after that, everywhere Forrest went he was running. But in the novel, Forrest never had to wear leg braces because of a crooked spine. He was just born fast. The movie shows Forrest a few years later when he was in high school but in the same situation, running from bullies but the bullies were chasing him with a truck this time. Forrest is running and cutting through fields while trying to escape from them. Forrest takes a turn and ends up on the high school football field, Bear Bryant, head coach of The University of Alabama football team, is at Forrest's school watching the team play. Forrest is not on the team, but Bear Bryant sees him run onto the football field. Forrest runs past the quarterback just as he releases the ball and reaches the wide receiver as the ball arrives. Bear Bryant is amazed by his speed and asks who he is. Bear Bryant gives Forrest a scholarship to play football for Alabama. Forrest is the running back and is named First Team All-American. The novel it’s different, Forrest already plays football and is very good. One day he goes to the principal’s office where he meets Bear Bryant from the University of Alabama. Bear asks him if he wants to play football in College and Forrest answers yes, and so he goes to play. In the film, Forrest’s love was Jenny Curran. In the film she had a bad childhood being raised by an alcoholic and abusive father. Her mother had died, and her aunt was also abusive. But in the novel Jenny is a common normal girl who lives with her family. She has no problems throughout her childhood; later on she takes part in being a hippie but doesn’t do drugs. She’s just a normal girl with regular problems at her age.

In my opinion I think the film version of Forrest Gump is better. In my personal opinion, I think the film is more realistic. In the book Forrest becomes a wrestler known as “The Dunce”, Becomes an astronaut and goes to outer space, crashes into a jungle then taken hostage by cannibals with his ape, Sue. Forrest becomes a world-class chess player, and a six-foot-six two-hundred and forty-two pound running back. In the film I liked how Forrest was a normal average guy and I liked how Tom Hanks portrayed the character of Forrest Gump. It helped me better understand the personality of Forrest. I really liked how in the film Forrest wasn’t able to run because of his crooked spine and he had to wear the leg braces. Once those leg braces flew off Forrest experienced something he never had before, running. After that he learned that he loved to run because it was something he was unable to do now I think he was grateful that he could and so that’s why he took pride in running and he ran everywhere.

Even though Forrest Gump was lacking of intelligence, he fulfilled his life and didn’t let what other people said get in his way. The movie was different from the novel but I think it gave me a different perspective on Forrest compared to what I pictured him as in the novel. I think the director put this film together very well and made it one of the best films of all-time.

Forest Gump

...My favorite film "Forrest Gump" Almost everybody likes to watch movies and we have seen a lot of them. Some of them are better than others. Sometimes people have different opinions whether a particular movie is good or not. The movie I like the most is a story about mentally deficient man. The whole picture is funny, moving and we see a great performance by actors and actresses. Therefore my favorite movie is "Forrest Gump" by Robert Zemeckis. The movie is full of very funny dialogues and situations. It's a good quality humor though. We have many chances to laugh at innocence and the naivety of Forrest. I find that kind of humor very interesting and the whole movie is really funny. "Forrest Gump" is a very moving story. It shows that it's possible to enjoy life without being stingy, materialistic or ruthless. It helps us to realize that there are many people among us that were born with various defects. That fact makes me think how fortunate I am to be totally healthy. The movie contains also a love story. It's a dramatic plot because Forrest loves a girl who doesn't think of him as a serious partner because of his defect. However they eventually get married. Although she passes away due to a fatal disease. Moreover we see love between mother and son where Forest's mom even slept with the school principal in order to give the son a chance of going to a normal school. All those things make me think of this movie as of a very moving story. We see very good performance by Tom...

The movie “Forrest Gump” is said to be a movie that makes you laugh, cry and think. In 1995, Robert Zemeckis, director of Forrest Gump won the Oscar for best achievement in directing and in his acceptance speech he thanks the “motion picture fans” by saying “In historic numbers you have embraced a film that at its heart offers a human life affirming hopeful story” as I agree that this movie has made a social impact on us all that have seen the movie. “Telling the story out of chronological order, jumping back and forth between the present and the past is in Non-linear order” (Goodykoontz, 2011). The movie begins with Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks is sitting on a bench waiting for a bus. We don’t know why he’s sitting there but as he’s sitting, he is telling his life story to people who are waiting for the bus as well going from the time he was a young boy to an adult and he eventually gets to why he is waiting for the bus. Rainforest Biome

...Dear Ms. Roberts, It is currently the summer of 2016 and I have just arrived in Brazil to watch the summer Olympics with my beloved, British boyfriend Harry Styles. Harry was invited to perform at the opening ceremonies here in Rio de Janeiro with his band, so I decided I would come with him and research the Tropical Rain Forests. The thing most different about rain forests compared to South Dakota is the fact that they are warm year-round. In fact, rain forests go through virtually no season changes. To say it simply, every season there is equivalent to a wet, hot summer. Tropical rainforests on average have around 100 inches of rain a year and the temperatures range from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The amounts of animals that are located in the rainforests seem endless. One of my favorites, though, is the Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth. This sloth is unique because unlike many other species of animals, the male and females are almost exactly proportional. Both genders range from 17 to 31 inches in height and weigh anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds. Another very unique species I found in this tropic climate was the Red-Eyed Tree Frog. The thing you may notice at first would be the big, bulging red eyes; but I noticed their special way of camouflaging themselves. Although their eyes may be very noticeable, those big eyes are actually how they hide themselves from predators. When this species of frogs close their eyes, the eye lids are a vibrant...

Global

...An important ecosystem service provided by forests is the ability to counter-act the effects of global warming. Carbon dioxide, a contributing factor to global warming, is taken up by the plants and vegetation contained in forests through photosynthesis and the resulting carbon is stored in both living and dead plant biomass. This process, known as carbon sequestration, greatly reduces the potential for global climate change (IPCC 2001). Forest cover also affects the albedo, that is, the proportion of incident solar radiation that is reflected by the earths surface. The dense green coloured canopy of tropical forests have a low albedo when compared with grasslands or deforested areas. This allows for more incident solar radiation to be absorbed and cooler air termperatures (O’Brien 1996). Perhaps the most important ecosystem service provided by forests, which is a basic requirement for life, is the supply of clean water. Forests facilitate the storage of clean water through filtering precipitation through the tree canopy. This, in effect, slows the rate at which precipitation collects at the ground surface allowing it to remain unsaturated. It is estimated that over 2/3 of the clean water supply is United States is contained within stream water, which was filtered through forests, with a direct value exceeding $27 billion per year (Snail 2009). This clean water can be captured and stored in watersheds that in turn, can be used for variety of purposes including agriculture,...

Indonesia overview Indonesia maintains the highest rate of illegal logging among other countries, up to 60% of timber production. Corruption has been a prevalent issue in Indonesia, and was even worse after the end of the Suharto government system. Deforestation rate is excessive from 1.3 to 2 million hectares every year. Indonesia represents about one-quarter of global tropical wood production and exports, and about half of global tropical hardwood plywood exports. Declining Biodiversity

...Decline in Biodiversity Deanna Garrett ENV497 Chad Goings July 15, 2013 Decline in Biodiversity Biodiversity is important in ecosystems because every life form works together in order for them to function. When these ecosystems are disrupted or altered, or even lacks biodiversity, it poses major threats to all the life forms in it, whether it happens quickly or over a long period of time. When we lack biodiversity, our ecosystems become unstable, which in turn makes them more vulnerable to disasters and they cannot contribute to our well being. Although policy makers may be faced with challenges, many considerations need to be taken into account to preserve biodiversity and to protect these areas so that these ecosystems can function properly and prosper. When we hear the word ‘biodiversity’, it pretty much explains itself.  It is the amount of variation of life forms within a given biome, ecosystem, species, or even the entire plant. Many considerations need to be taken into account to preserve biodiversity and to protect these areas so that these ecosystems can function properly and prosper. With respect to the ecosystem and biodiversity, we need to remember that once our natural resources run out and when most ecosystems are destroyed, it is very hard to restore it to what it was. We need to consider our well being, as well as all the other organisms that we share the earth with. We use biodiversity all the time, whether it is direct or indirect. In order for us to...

Deforestation

...is deforestation? Deforestation is the removal or damage of vegetation in a forest to the extent that it no longer supports its natural flora and fauna. In other words, deforestation can be defined as the transformation of forest land to non-forest uses where forest land includes lands under agro-forestry and shifting cultivation, and not simply closed canopy primary forests (FAO/UNEP, 1982). However, this definition does not include “logging”. More inclusive was Myers’s 1980 definition, where deforestation refers, “generally to the complete destruction of forest cover through clearing for agriculture … [so] … that not a tree remains, and the land is given over to non-forest purposes … [and where] very heavy and unduly negligent logging … [result in a] … decline of biomass and depletion of ecosystem services … . So severe that the residual forest can no longer qualify as forest in any practical sense of the world.” Alan Graigner (1980, AS quoted in Saxena and Nautiyal, 1997) asserts that selective logging does not “lead to forest clearance and does not constitute deforestation”, whereas Norman Myers (1980, 1993) thinks that logging is crucial because, although it may only affect a small proportion of trees per hectare, it damages wide areas and is the precursor of penetration by the forest farmers. For the purpose of this study, the FAO’s latest definitions (1993) will be used. The FAO defines forests as “ecosystems with a minimum of 10% crown cover of trees and/or bamboo, generally...

Accounting

...Global Trade of Wood and Paper Products Abstract Global trade of wood products is accelerating amid shifting regional production of raw materials. At the same time structural change is occurring in regional production and consumption of finished and semi-finished wood and paper products. Some countries which once were major net exporters of wood products, such as the United States, have become major net importers. Conversely, China, a country that not long ago was a major net importer of wood products, is increasingly dominant as an exporter of value-added wood products such as furniture. What are the reasons behind these shifts in sources of supply and demand for wood and wood products? Direct forces such as population growth and rising socio-economic levels drive demand for wood and paper products. Increasing purchasing power in developing economies empowers consumers, both private and public, to purchase homes, furnishings and accessories. Indirect factors, such promotion of wood, strengthen demand and translate to significant gains in consumption in some markets. Consciousness of climate change and the advantages of wood for products and energy is creating a new impetus for increasing wood products consumption, including wood-derived energy products. Government and industry policies are important market drivers. Government policies can support increased utilization of wood, or can restrict wood in construction when standards favor competitive building materials...
