Throughout the entire film there was a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct, intimidation, and no gamesmanship going on. One coach permitted it (Coach Penning - Arizona) and the other one did not (Coach Gelwix - Highland). In Arizona, Rick was the star of his rugby team which was coached by his father. He was living the life until he decided to make an unreasonable decision and drinking as a minor and also deciding to drive while under the influence. He then crashed the car while under the influence and severely injured his girlfriend, this landed him in court and he was sent to the Salt Lake City juvenile center. Rick met a guy named Marcus Tate that works in the juvenile center as his overseer for his behavior to report back to the judge. As soon as Rick got into the center he got into a fight and started to be basically a bully. Marcus took Rick to Highland to play Rugby. Rick did not like it there and did not want to be a part of anything they did whether it was for the team or community. Kurt, one of the Highland rugby players and captains took an interest into helping Rick and trying to make him a better person and make him comfortable on the team. It took some time but Rick became a part of the team and wanting to do any and everything with and for the team. After a game, some of the players were driving home and they pulled over to the side of the road to help a woman and children with a flat tire. While Kurt was changing the tire, a drunk driver hit and killed him. It hit the team pretty hard but they were able to come together and be even stronger and go to the national championships. Rick then found out that his father played on the Highland Rugby team that won a National Championship in 86 but when he said something to his father about it, he blamed his knee injury on Coach Gelwix because he had him playing at the wrong position that did not allow him to play in the National Championships. When it came time for Nationals, Rick’s father came to take him out of the center just to get anything that Rick knew about Highland’s plays. His old friends from Arizona wanted the same thing his father did but when he refused a small fight broke out and one of the guys dropped drugs in Rick’s car but Rick was bailed out because his ex-girlfriend came in and told them what really happened and he was released. He made it to Nationals in time to play and play through to the championship where he would face Arizona, his old team. The day before the championship game Quentin tells Rick about how he was paying people to get school tests and ended having to sit out the championship game. The Game was very competitive until the Arizona players started to play dirty and take cheap shots at the Highland players but when two of the Arizona players took out Rick his father got involved and made a player sit the rest of the game and got his son motivated and back into the game to get the game winning touchdown. After the game unlike the previous meeting between these teams Coach Penning showed sportsmanship to Highland and was very proud of his son. Rick was an undisciplined teenager mainly because of his father. His father was all about physical intimidation, unsportsmanlike behavior, and etc., so it rubbed off on him. The worst thing that could happen was the best thing that happened to him. Going to the juvenile center and with the help of Marcus, he was able to continue playing rugby but for Highland which was his rival team. Highland was all about sportsmanship, being great young men, fair competition, and being a family. He hated it at first but Kurt turned him around and brought him into being a true member of the team. I was glad to see Rick turn his life around because it was headed into the wrong direction and all he needed was some help and positive attention.

Poetry: Cause and Effect Essay

...would be a source of dread were it attached atop your head, it soon would drive you to despair, forever tickled by your hair. Within your ear, your nose would be an absolute catastrophe, for when you were obliged to sneeze, your brain would rattle from the breeze. Your nose, instead, through thick and thin, remains between your eyes and chin, not pasted on some other place-- be glad your nose is on your face! Analysis: “Be Glad Your Nose is On Your Face” is a humorous cause and effect poem by famous children’s poet Jack Prelutsky. It vividly describes moving “your precious nose” to other parts of your body and the amusing results. In his poem, Perlutsky writes, “Imagine if your precious nose, were sandwiched in between your toes, that clearly would not be a treat, for you’d be forced to smell your feet.” (5-8) While the poem seems to be simple and straightforward, it has an important message. Be happy with who you are. Perlutsky make this point in his poem with, “Be glad your nose is on your face, not pasted on some other place, for if it were where it was not, you might dislike your nose a lot. … Your nose, instead through thick and thin, remains between your eyes and chin, not pasted on some other place – be glad your nose is on your face!” (1-20) While the poem is lighthearted, childlike, and has delightful imagery, there is strong message. The cause of wanting something different than what you have can only effect you in a negative...

Olive Avenue Porterville, CA 93257 Dear Ms. Pichay: I am writing to inform you about how it is hard for filipinos in the city of Porterville to be accepted into society. It is hard for any race to be socially accepted in this country. There are so much criteria that you have to pass to even be considered into society. You have to look a certain way, act a certain way, talk a certain way, etc. To be honest, I don't even know if I am socially accepted because I don't pass a certain criteria. If it's hard for me, then I can't imagine what it must feel like for another person in my race. If you are filipino, it is especially hard to get accepted into society because we're different from other people. We have different values and outlooks on life. I want to know what you are going to do to fix this issue in the city of Porterville. There are a lot of filipinos, teenagers especially, that will do anything to get accepted into society. We want to be accepted by everyone because we want them to like us. We care about what other people think about us because that's just how we are. I know I am like that because if someone doesn't like me, then I will do anything to get them to like me. Filipinos have a difficult time getting accepted because we look or act differently compared to other races. When someone looks at me, I feel their eyes judging me and I don't want to feel like that anymore because I get really...

When their team or teams are playing their mentality is they better win this game and if they lose its then end of the world and puts a lot of the people in bad moods. This happens on the daily basis. Sports fans thrive for the excitement of the games. The excitement of the games and the atmosphere of the stadium bring them in to a whole different world. The fans that take it the most seriously are definitely soccer, baseball, hockey and football fans the most. The die-hard fans care about every game that is played by their team. Most of the time they will take the hard fought loss as if they are part of the team. People are crazy about sports, they’re die-hard fanatics, which sometimes care more about sports then their actual life. The biggest sports fans would have to be football; they go all out for their team. People plan their day around the game by getting to the field to barbeque and tailgate before the game. Most of the time it will be two to three hours before the game. Even some times people will just get to the stadium to tailgate and be in the atmosphere of everyone else and not go into the game because they don’t have tickets. Football fans are crazy they will throw parties in the parking lot before and after the games. They also have fans that paint their bodies and stand out in the freezing cold when normal people would be bulled up in cloths. Football Fans are crazy but that is just the...

The first fast fashion store opened in April 21 in 1984 and has grown nationally and globally since then. The market for Forever 21 has grown drastically within the past couple of years and they have ventured from just women and men’s clothes. Forever 21 carries a very wide assortment of merchandise and now caters to children and plus size women. The fashions of Forever 21 have a lower price point than most other chain stores so the fact that they are affordable items to attain and manufacturing is cheaper it is easier to expand their stores across the globe. Forever reaches its audience mobile all across the glove via the Forever 21 app because the CRM enables the brand to research their consumers by knowing their demographics and what they like and catering to the consumer and allowing interactions with the brand to be easier. “We’re looking to scale our online and mobile business faster, drive more return on ad spend and increase revenue through paid channels. The last generation to be unaugmented. The last generation to be intellectually alone. The last generation to be limited by our bodies. We are the first. The first generation to be augmented. The first generation to be intellectually together. The first generation to be limited only by our imaginations. We stand both before and after, balancing on the razor edge of the Event Horizon of the Singularity. That this sublime juxtapositional tautology has gone unnoticed until now is itself remarkable. We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them. Singularity

...Tanya Leadmon English 111 11/04/13 Singularity When Raymond Kurzweil wrote “The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology” in 2005, he predicted that Singularity would occur in the year 2045. Singularity is defined as when computers become smarter than humans. Kurzweil truly believes that this will happen in the year 2045. While reading my critique of Kurzweil’s theory, decide for yourself if you believe Singularity will occur in 2045, or ever. Kurzweil describes his law of accelerating returns as exponential increase in technologies like computers, genetics, nanotechnology and robotics, and artificial intelligence. Kurzweil also predicts that once Singularity has been reached, machine intelligence will be a quintillion times more powerful than all human intelligence combined. Before Singularity can occur, Kurzweil states that there will be exponential growth in evolutionary progress, computational capacity, how the brain works, and revolutions in genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics. Kurzweil believes computational capacity will continue to grow exponentially. He feels that a new paradigm will debut to carry on this growth. According to him, this new paradigm will be nanotubes. He goes on to say that the best way to build machine intelligence is to first understand human intelligence. The first step is to peer inside the brain. Kurzweil predicts that during the 2020’s greater details of the brain will surface because...

String Ai vs Weak Ai

...Human is searching for intelligent machines from a very long time ago. Even at the time when computer was not invented there were machines that were able to do some kind of intelligent work. According to AI concept it is possible for a machine to think. Actually intelligence has different meanings according to different people so let’s skip this talk and come to the point Strong vs Weak AI. Strong AI: According to think tanks of AI a day will come when computer’s computations and calculations will become so strong that a computer will be able to take decisions just like human brain, so that we will be able to call it as intelligent as human brain. In other words a machine will think in the same way as a human brain does. Weak AI: Weak AI is also intelligence in a way because the technology that we are using today as AI can be referred to as weak AI. Because the level of AI that we attain today can’t be placed at the level of human brain, because the most advance machines today we have can’t actually think like human brains. The case of chess master Garry Kasparov vs IBM's Deep Blue program is a good illustration. Although Kasparov had the advantage of human intuition, Deep Blue had the ability to calculate 200 million probabilities per second. Better approach to adopt: According to me it is impossible for a machine to attain a level of intelligence like human brain. But if we consider that it happens so this will be a destruction of the world. Because human brain is equally...

...Ranking Salt Solutions by pH 6-2: Ranking Salt Solutions by pH In this assignment you will be asked to rank aqueous solutions of acids, bases, and salts in order of increasing pH. This is most easily done by first identifying the strong acids that have the lowest pH, the strong bases that have the highest pH, and the neutral solutions that have a pH near 7. The weak acids will have a pH between 1 and 6 and the weak bases between 8 and 14. The exact order of weak acids and weak bases is determined by comparing the ionization constants (Ka for the weak acids and Kb for the weak bases). After ranking the pH of these solutions, you will then test your predictions in the laboratory. 1. Arrange the following 0.1 M solutions in order of increasing pH and state why you placed each solution in that position: NaCH3COO, HCl, HCN, NaOH, NH3, NaCN, KNO3, H2SO4, NH4Cl, H2SO3, NaHCO3, Na3PO4 and CH3COOH. In order of increasing pH: 1.HCl most powerful acid. 2.H2SO4 a strong acid 3.H2SO3 weak but stronger than 4.HCN from experiments 5.CH3COOH weak acid 6.NH4Cl is an acidic salt 7.KNO3 is Neutral salt 8.NaCH3COO NaCN NaHCO3 Na3PO4 are basic salts. 9.NH3 weak Base 10.NaOH strong Base After doing the experiment this is the order that I got: NH4Cl H2SO4 HCl H2SO3 KNO3 NaHCO3 CH3COOH NH3 HCN NaCH3COO NaCN Na3PO4 NaOH Once you have predicted the nature of each salt solution, you will use Virtual ChemLab to confirm your prediction...

...become rational and logical, ambitious and aggressive, and at the same time to create an organization that can carry out their ambitious plans. One of the impediments to successfully implementing these changes is the lifetime employment commitment, which held Matsushita back from cutting off unnecessary management staffs. Also, the existing managers are performing poorly because of their old way of doing things. Again, since it cannot lay workers off, it has to cut back on its hiring and this is triggered by the slow growth rate. Implications for Matsushita: (a) If changes are made quickly, the company would have a dynamic workforce that would increase the growth rate. But that would lack the loyalty of its employees, which is still a very strong force to keep the company going. (b) If Matsushita takes too much time, it might fall back and become unable to revolutionize its workforce. If old employees do not make way for new employees, the company will have a slower growth rate with an aging workforce. 5. What does the Matsushita case teach you about the relationship between societal culture and business success? The Matsushita case teaches us that societal culture and business success are very closely related. This is because the culture in the organization is a very important driver of its success and this culture is shaped and determined by the existing culture of the...
