Mishra was a twenty-five year old fortuneteller. She is a teller for a living. I was going to get married by the end of the year. It was a little early but John, my fiancée helped me organize our wedding and we went to so many places. We looked for cakes, the venue and decorations.

As we were driving, we saw Mishra alone; no one was going to her. A lot people have been saying that her telling’s are true; a lot of her costumers got scared. I didn’t believe what the others were saying. I believed in what I believed in.

I went up to Mishra. I wanted to give it a try and I wanted Mishra to feel that she was still getting costumers. Mishra had a different way of telling people their future. She used cards, not by hand or any other things. She would pick ten cards out of twenty and I would pick five out of the ten. Those five cards I picked would be telling my future.

She laid out the cards one by one as she was laying them one by one, the first card was an Ace with a gun, second card was a king which had a baby on it, third card was a queen which has bad guys killing a woman, the fourth one was a jack which had a broken heart and the last one was a ten which had death.

I was really shocked with the result but then again I didn’t believe it. I was really skeptical about a lot of things. As I left, Mishra ran to me because I left my phone. While I was driving I couldn’t stop thinking what Mishra showed me. I was feeling very nervous and I didn’t feel good.

As soon as I got home I had a hot shower and went to bed. John wasn’t home when I came, I was very tired and I couldn’t wait any longer, I went to sleep.

Next morning, I woke up to a beautiful view outside the window, warm breeze flew at my face and it felt really good. I was very hungry, I was craving a lot of food it didn’t it feel right. Everything was hurting; John called me down to eat breakfast. As I was eating I had an urge to vomit, I didn’t know what was happening. It got me thinking if I was pregnant but I wasn’t sure. John took me to the hospital… Later on, I had an ultrasound it was true I was pregnant!

It was slowly getting to me. I remembered the card, it had a baby and now it’s happening to me. I went back to Mishra.

“Mishra I’m pregnant, it happened just like on the card” I remarked.

“Im happy for you!” Mishra replied with a fake smile.

Mishra didn’t look happy, but I didn’t worry about it, I thought maybe she’s just having a bad day. Mishra didn’t like what happened, she was scared that the other cards might happen. Mishra had to leave. I left and went straight home.

John and I have been having arguments these past few days. He’s always in a bad mood and I couldn’t help it. I didn’t worry about it too much I left it. I was always alone at home I didn’t have anyone’s company.

John had been getting a lot of calls, he always look so worried. He would be drinking before he comes home. I was really worried for him I didn’t know how to help.

I have been dreaming about bad guys. Guns, knives were pointed at me, torturing me. It was pitch black, cold and foggy. So many guys were coming after me I wasn’t sure why. They shot me right through my left upper arm. I fell on the ground. I woke up… it was only just a dream.

Later on, john came to me. He wanted to talk, I was feeling nervous. John wanted to end the wedding and our relationship. Arrogant and demanding, I was in tears I thought he was joking. Not anymore, because tonight he intended to end it. This time he meant it. I was heart broken.

I woke up from my nap, john came home, was in a hurry I wasn’t sure what was happening. There were guys chasing after him. He joined a gang he thought were good guys. John was holding a gun, I had no idea he had one. I went upstairs as fast as I can, they heard my footsteps. They followed me up, I ran as fast as I can but it wasn’t enough they got me.

They caught me, grabbed me tightly right at my upper arm, I was hurt I screamed for help. John couldn’t help me he was being tied up. John did something horrible but he wouldn’t tell me. I hear shouting and gunshots across the room.

My stomach it was hurting. 10 minutes later pain went away, I looked down I see blood dripping down my legs… the baby is dead. I cried loudly and could not believe what happened. I couldn’t take it anymore, I cried for so long and screamed for help.

‘Bang Bang’! Gun shots across the room.

“John! John! Are you there?” I screamed loudly.

I received no reply John was dead… I was alone in the room. As the guy walk away I quietly stood up and tried to escape. It was too late they heard my footsteps and caught me. They killed me alone with John shot me right at the middle of my stomach. I was dead…

10 days have passed. There was a 17-year-old boy, Michael who witnessed the attack. Reported to the police and detectives have been trying to find information about the attack. No one else saw what happened, Michael didn’t have much information; it was left just like that.

Later on, the detective found out who the killers were. They don’t know why but they caught them and put them in jail for 20 years of imprisonment. It was done.

Camden has been consistently ranked since 2006 in Fortune Magazine’s Top 100 companies to work for. In 2006 they were ranked at number 50 and slowly worked their way up to number 41 in 2009. Then in 2010 they jumped to number 10. Camden is one of the largest multifamily real estate investment trusts (REIT) and was hit during the recession, but was able to stay successful by investing in its employees. Camden was able to continue to offer a very completive compensation package to lure talent and help develop talent that they already had. To stay a step ahead of everyone else Camden not only needs to offer traditional benefits like medical, but expand on them and think outside the box. Employees spend a lot of time at work, more than they do with their own families, so by offering benefits that help the family out as well is one good way to attract and keep loyal employees. A company’s employees are their number one investment; they can make or break a business. Camden’s dedication to their employees has not only made them a great place to work but a successful business as well. First, upward communication or influence refers to the process where information is transmitted from the lower (subordinates) levels of an organization to the upper (superiors) levels of an organization. Such kinds of communication include estimations, proposals, complaints, grievances, petitions, reports among others. Business Ethics

Do Merck's stockholders have any cause to complain when Merck spends their money on these ventures which are not aimed at profit? If this action is morally acceptable (or required) for Merck, then would similar charitable actions be acceptable (or required) for other companies that produce products which would benefit impoverished people? (Ex. food companies, clothing companies, water filtration tech companies, etc) Explain. Answer As a pharmaceutical company, Merck saw an opportunity when the River blindness epidemic first arose and focused their attention on countries most affected by the parasite. At the time of the breakout, Merck had become part of the Fortune 500, giving them credibility and an obligation to reach out to people most affected by River Blindness. As many companies focus on profit, Merck saw an opportunity to earn some prestige instead, by treating patients over seas. To morally justify the companies decision, managers looked back on what the founders of the company believed in. Former president of the company, George Merck, said "medicine is for the people. It is not for the profits. The profits follow, and if we have remembered that, they have never failed to appear...". Through looking at George's values during his time as president, the managers could by definition morally justify their beliefs on if the decision of giving instead of earning would help the company in the long...

Advertisements Gone Haywire

...Advertisements Gone Haywire Advertisements are a negative influence on today’s society in many ways. They entice buyers to purchase things they don’t need, by doing so many people go into debt and spend money they don’t have. Also advertisements do not only seem bad, but statistically their cons outweigh their pros. Advertisements might look fun, but in the end the consumer might be a victim of false advertisement. One last argument is that advertisements are a constant invasion in people’s lives with the message that they need all those different products to be complete, taking advantage of the consumer’s gullibility or fear. This is why advertisements are a negative influence and is something today’s world would be better without. An example of the negative impact of advertisements is the Roni Deutch advertisements for A Professional Tax Corporation. This was a service that was advertised, and many people trusted, even after extensive research of the Corporation. Instead of “getting the maximum refund you deserve” like the advertisements say, clients money was stolen from them. Something else Roni Deutch addresses in her ad is, “Can you live on half your paycheck? That’s how much the IRS can take when they garnish your wages.” This particular message addressed in the ad plays on the consumer’s fear of not being able to pay their taxes. This is what presses a lot of consumers to purchase products because the advertisement targets their fears and causes them to...

Questions Fingersmith

...Questions Fingersmith – Part 2 1. What has happened to Sue, Maud and Gentleman? Sue went into the madhouse, instead of Maud. Gentleman and Maud had thought of this plan before Sue came to Briar. Maud and Gentleman went to London. They didn’t go to the big house Gentleman had promised, but they went to Lant Street. Maud finds out she was tricked too: “’Damn your attitudes now!’ I say. ‘Tell me what this means. Whose house is this? Is it yours?’ (…) ‘Not mine,’ he answers at last. ‘Not ours?’ He shakes his head. ‘Whose, then? Where, then?’ He rubs at his eye. He is tired. ‘It is theirs,’ he says nodding to the woman, the man. ‘Their house, in the Borough.’ The Borough… I have heard him say that name, once or twice before. I stand for a moment in silence, thinking back across his words; then my heart drops. ‘Sue’s house,’ I say. ‘Sue’s house, of thieves.’ 2. How did they trick Sue? They tricked Sue by letting her look like Maud Lilly. Way before the doctors came to diagnose Maud Lilly, actually Sue, Maud let her wear her own gowns and made her look like a real lady. First the doctors talked to Sue. The doctors were told that Sue was the mad Maud Lilly, who thought she was a maid while she actually was a lady: “He takes them first to talk with Sue. Of course, they suppose her his wife, turned mad, thinking herself a servant, speaking in the manner of a maid, keeping to a maid’s room.” Maud claimed she was the real maid, and Sue only acted like a maid. Because...

In part thanks to Levitt (1983), the term ‘global’ became mainstream in the 1980s, as firms were encouraged to ‘go global’ by both media and academics. However, in 1985, Hamel and Prahalad noted that the perspective on global competition and globalization of markets was incomplete and misleading. Hamel and Prahalad (1985) found that neither executives nor analysts fully understood what global competition entailed, and they subsequently developed a global competitive framework.4 Recent debate centers on an interesting and somewhat surprising finding first presented by Rugman and Verbeke (2004). They found that even among the largest Fortune Global 500 MNEs, few are truly ‘global’. In their study, Rugman and Verbeke found only nine MNEs to be ‘global’ and only 25 to be ‘bi-regional’.5 The majority of the...

Verizon Iphone Battle

...iconic smartphone, the carrier reported Thursday. The fourth quarter marked the last full quarter of AT&T's iPhone exclusivity agreement with Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500). Verizon will begin taking pre-orders for the phone on Feb. 3 and selling it in stores on Feb. 10. • 40 • • • Email • Print [pic]That made AT&T's recent iPhone sales all the more significant, because they effectively lock customers into two-year contracts with pricey termination fees. If a current iPhone 4 customer wishes to defect to Verizon next month, it will cost $325, less only $10 for each month that has passed since the contract began. Plus, customers will need to splurge on an all-new iPhone for Verizon's service, which uses a network technology that is incompatible with AT&T's iPhone. Verizon hinted Tuesday that it expects to sell in the ballpark of 11 million iPhones in 2011. To entice AT&T customers to join its ranks, Verizon said it would offer an unlimited data plan on the iPhone for a limited time. But just 2.5 million iPhone customers are expected to cancel their AT&T service and switch to Verizon, according to a Yankee Group study. AT&T has gone on the offensive in the past year in anticipation of its loss of iPhone exclusivity. To boost its lineup, AT&T made deals with Research in Motion (RIMM) and Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) to be the exclusive U.S. vendor of the BlackBerry Torch and Windows Phone 7 devices. The company also offered early upgrades to its customers to entice...
