If one gets neglected, then there is a chance that that person can become full of resentment and hate. That hate could infect the heart by causing it to darken to transform that person into a villain. Villains preform evil deeds full of strong hateful emotions that stemmed from a dramatic event that has happened to them. The last scene in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley illuminates the novel as a whole because it proves that villainous acts are formed from neglect. In the last scene, Victor is finishing up his life story to Walton. While Victor was telling his story, the creature was leering in the distance listing to everything that he said. Walton walked in on the creature after Victor died of illness and sees him hung over Victor’s body. …show more content…
His first intention was to hide himself from everyone; this came from the neglect that he received from Victor, and when Walton called to him he was confused. He never had someone besides Victor attempt to talk to him because of his ugly features. He never had the support that he needed to build his confidence; instead he was just cast out into the world with nobody to look after him. Victor abandoned him; that was his neglect towards the creature and because he did that, the creature did not have anyone. The creature was shunned to the world because of his hideous stature, which made him angry. The resentment that was boiling inside him was the product of abandonment, which turned him into a …show more content…
When the creature said his “misery” made him hateful, he was referring to the years that he was alone with no one to care for him and how the neglect infected his heart to where he hated everything. Victor left him to suffer alone, and because he was alone he had no one to teach him that turning to crimes will not solve anything. The creature finally realizes this in the last scene when he tormented Victor to the brink of death and said, “For when I destroyed his hopes, I did not satisfy my own desires” (Shelley
