Free College You see all these successful people in the world, but do you know what they went through to get to where they are now? Imagine all the bright minds in the world that could help change the world. Most of those people with those minds are to poor or cant get an opportunity just to learn. Students with temporary living conditions and good grades should get to attend college for free. Last October, just 65.9 percent of people who had graduated from high school the previous spring had enrolled in college, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said this week. But what about the kids who didn't even get a chance to go to high school. Kids in third world countries don't even go to school. I think people in america take almost everything for granite. Kids now days think its a chore to get up and go to school five days a week. We all think that homework is the worst thing that could happen to you in a day. But kids in other countries worry about when there going to get there next piece of bread for the day or when there going to get their next sip of clean water. …show more content…
I think it should be a global law for all kids to have a local school for education. If the world leaders just chipped in a little money maybe schools could be built for those who don't have them. But before that even I think we should be able to take care of our own first. Back to what the Bureau of Labor stated. Only sixty five point nine percent of americans that graduated high school go to college. The other thirty four point one percent says either one of the following things after college, I cant afford it, I earn good money at my job, my grades art that good, i don't know what to do with my life, or my parents didn't go to college so i don't think i

Why Did I Enroll in College

...Why Did I Enroll in College I often ask myself why. Why did you decide to go to college? Well first off, I have just started my family. So therefore, I am going to need to get my future set straight in order to support this family. What better way than to enroll in college? In this essay I will briefly explain why I enrolled in college. Also, the qualities I need to use in order to be successful in college. Qualities that I am going to use will definitely give me nothing but the best, and me personally I strive for the best. While in college I would love to gain the most out of it. The last thing I plan on talking about is certain obstacles I will have to overcome in order to be successful in receiving my degree. Why did I enroll in college? My reasons for enrolling in college are pretty simple. First things first, I really want to work towards getting my degree and become a teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. Honestly I don’t know what made me want to become a teacher, but it has stuck with me since I first decided what I wanted to be. I have the up-most respect for teachers, due to the fact that they put up with so much from students. So I believe I need to put forth the effort and take over for someone who is ready to get out of the teaching life. Another reason I decided to enroll in college, I really want to experience new things. This is a never ending issue; I am the type of person who constantly wants to experience something new. I joined the military...

Rhetorical Analysis Of That's Not Funny By Caitlin Flanagan

...College, the next step into adulthood, should be an institution that promotes and fosters freedom of speech and thought. Nowadays, however, these educational institutions are becoming progressively more sensitive and conservative about exposing their students to the unfiltered realities of the world. Comedians are forced to change their style and are not given their freedom of speech to avoid possibly offending or imposing any stereotypes on the students. Universities have purposely blocked out discussions of certain thoughts and ideas because they want to embrace a world that’s less cruel than the reality. College students are grown up and should be not be restricted to filtered ideas and thoughts that are respectful towards the university’s certain set of imposed beliefs. The article “That’s Not Funny!” by Caitlin Flanagan reveals how many stand up comedians tend to stray away from college gigs because they are too restricting on what they are allowed to express to a room of young adults. Flanagan effectively persuades her audience by appealing to them with her use of rhetorical techniques such as logos, ethos, and pathos. Since Flanagan is a...

Knowledge Is Power

...James Marie Professor Baker English 101 28 February 2012 Knowledge is Power, Power is Success. How successful are you? When looking for a job in today’s world it is known that companies aren’t concerned with whether someone couldn’t attend college because they couldn’t pay for it. They only care about whether a degree is held or not. This is why being part of the lower class has been so difficult for students wanting to continue their education. Preparing for a successful future begins with a quality education. For many students, however, the quality of the available education is dependent on their financial circumstances. In order to ensure that all American citizens are as successful as they can be, access to quality education must be based on effort and commitment, not an individual’s ability to pay for it. Today most people would agree that education is the key to success. It is almost impossible to have a successful career without having an advanced education from a superior school. Businesses and companies depend consequently on what school someone graduated from and what degree they have, that it creates an unfair bias and almost makes it impossible for someone to compete for a job when they could not afford the same education. In today’s economy it is more challenging to acquire a successful career. Businesses have become further meticulous in their hiring processes and are not speculating towards undergraduates to employ. Businesses are looking for applicants...

Education

...American Dream Many people come to America “the land of opportunity” in hope of the American Dream; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Every person has the chance to achieve this well that is wrong if never given the chance to be educated. If not having the rights means how can one go out and get and education. Education now is everything without it there is no future. The most important part of the American dream is success. But how can someone achieve success without a correct education. To get the proper education money is needed. If one doesn’t have neither than it just becomes a dream. A dream will not pay bills or give you the job you want. But with an education success would be achieved as well the American Dream. Either success be owning your own company, getting the dream job, buying a house whatever success is an education is needed to achieve it. Not everyone has the same circumstance. Some people are born poor with parents who don’t have well-paying jobs or broken homes but that shouldn’t mean that you are left without an education. If everyone has an equal chance then why don’t most become successful? It is because we don’t have an equal chance. Not everyone was brought up the same or started off with the same life. In fact, college graduates earn more than twice as much as high school graduates. Some studies have found that college graduates with a bachelor’s degree earn 80% more per year than those with only a high school degree (College Atlas). According...

College: Is It Really Worth It?

...2016 College: Is It Really Worth It? The American Collegiate System has various pros and cons that many young adults in America have come to either admire or despise. One of the main controversial focus points within this system is the cost and quality of education within American systems. America has been known to have the most expensive collegiate system when compared to any other system around the world. Although many individuals believe that a college education is a prerequisite for being able to receive financial stability and health, is it really worth the thousands of dollars worth of debt an years worth of time? In America, there are countless job possibilities that are available to accommodate every individual’s interests. Although there may be numerous jobs available for everyone, there are costly consequences. In today’s modern workforce, the majority of jobs require individuals to obtain a degree, that relates to the job, to ensure they are educated and aware of the specific requirements that the job entails. According to an article written by Alicia C. Shepard, “College is no longer a prestigious milestone, but a consumer product”. Shepard stated that many college students are not attending college to learn, but are there in hopes to receive “their money’s worth” of high GPAs and test scores to help them achieve their desired degree (“College Education”). The Huffington Post states that the majority of young adults are taught to believe that a college education...

Paper

...Professor Rowe ENGL-1302-15 10 December 2012 Is college a good idea for some exceptional students? College education is a life experience that provides students with knowledge and skills to face challenges ahead in life. It is an extremely important form of education though it may seem as though college is not worth the stress and difficulty because several college dropouts such as Joel Osteen, LeBron James, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs were successful in their endeavors to achieve their goals. In the article Is College worth it?, Robert Hoggard states: College prepares students for determination and responsibility although one can never truly understand the definition of determination without finishing college because studying and finishing assignments on time takes innate will power that many people who opt-out of college do not possess (Hoggard). His views on college are extremely appropriate as by attending college, students learn to develop their will power to help them focus on their perspectives and goals. Emily Wamstker shares her views on college in her article, College Is Very Much Worth It, by saying, “The data make clear that getting a college education is still a good idea -- college graduates earn more, and are more likely to have a job in the first place -- and is especially important for some Americans” (Wamstker). By attending college, students can be confident of acquiring a job. Many college dropouts struggle making low wages because they...

Personal Responsibility

...President Barrack Obama "we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents and the best schools in the world - and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities." Everyone is responsible for themselves and their actions, although some like to place the blame of some of their actions and life choices on others, in the end you and you alone are responsible for the choices and actions you take. Too many people today blame the others for the situations they end up in, instead of having integrity and realizing that only you can make decisions for yourself. If there is one thing I learned while serving in the United States Army is integrity and personal responsibility. Every solider is responsible for themselves and the actions they take. In the Army you have to learn what is right and what’s wrong and have to be able to make precise and instant decisions for the actions you take. When your leader orders you to do something and you know that what you are about to do is wrong, simply stating you were following orders is not acceptable, you are held responsible for your actions no matter the reason or on who’s orders lead you to those choices. To be successful in college you have to have a determination and personal responsibility. If you go to college and think you can spend minimal effort and still pass you’re going to be in for a rude awakening, I found this out first hand in my first year of college. Throughout high school I never studied...

Personal Responsibility Is the Fuel for College Success

...Responsibility is the fuel for college success XXXX GEN/200 XXXX Instructor: XXXX Personal Responsibility is the Fuel for College Success Although many people attend universities and colleges, not everyone has a successful college experience. Success in college relies on many things. Dedication, a positive attitude, and good time management skills are just a few of requirements for a successful college experience, but without the one most important component, college success is not possible. The most important component in the equation for s successful college experience is personal responsibility. Personal responsibility is necessary for college success. An example of a car can be used to demonstrate college success. A car may have all of the necessary components to run; an engine, transmission, wheels, etc., but without fuel, the car will go nowhere. No matter how good all of the parts of the car seem to be, without fuel, the car will not move. In the case of college success, personal responsibility is the fuel. Just as a car goes nowhere without fuel, college success cannot happen without personal responsibility. A college student may have everything they need for college; the course schedule,...

Starbucks

...Schultz began working at the first Starbucks store in Seattle's Pike Place Market. At this time he was just a company marketing manager. Then a simple business trip to Milan and Verona changed everything. This trip made him realize that the coffee shop had to sell more than whole bean and ground coffee to really be successful. Which he was right! Since his bosses would not do this, he would take matters into his own hands and do it himself. Five years later he bought out his boss and then became CEO of Starbucks. It is amazing how one idea could make such a massive change. Now in 2013, there are over 16,000 Starbucks around the world. All business's start small, that is usually how business's work, by starting small and hoping to get larger. They then get bigger and expand creating more profit and better sales. Starbucks is one of the U.S. Retailers that has been forced to move with the recession. Now, a little while ago there was a substantial amount of store closings, but even though this happened to one of the largest coffee retailers, it is still a very successful company. In February 2008, Starbucks management captured the attention of the business world when it closed 7100 of its stores for three hours. This was done so that it could retrain its baristas on creating a Starbucks brand customer service experience. Lets do a little bit of math here. With an average of 20 employees per store, thats roughly 426,000 man hours, about 3 million in wages and finally 21,300 hours...
