A free-falling object is an object which is falling under the sole influence of gravity. Any object which is being acted upon only by the force of gravity is said to be in a state of free fall. There are two important motion characteristics which are true of free-falling objects:  Free-falling objects do not encounter air resistance.
 All free-falling objects (on Earth) accelerate downwards at a rate of 9.8 m/s2
19
Examples of objects in free fall include skydivers, an object dropped from the top of a cliff, an apple falling from a tree etc. (www.howstuffworks.com)
A projectile is any object which once projected or dropped continues in motion by its own inertia ( the property of matter by which it retains its velocity so long as it is not acted upon by an external force) and is influenced only by the downward force of gravity. By definition, a projectile has only one force acting upon it - the force of gravity.
There are a variety of examples of projectiles. An object dropped from rest is a projectile. An object which is thrown vertically upward is also a projectile. And an object which is thrown upward at an angle to the horizontal is also a projectile.
Projectile motion is simply the motion of an object in a plane (two dimensions) under the influence of gravity. The trajectory describes an arc. The equations of motion describe the components of such motion and are useful to analyze projectile motion. In textbook problems, the initial velocity of an object is typically given, and the subsequent motion is described with equations of motion. The method used in this lab will be to determine the initial velocity of a projectile from range-fall measurements. If a projectile is launched horizontally with an initial velocity of magnitude vox = vo from a height of y, then the projectile will travel a horizontal distance x (the range of the projectile) while falling the vertical distance y. You can apply this knowledge to all kind of sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and more.

...Lab Report- Calculate and Prove the Acceleration Due to Gravity David Chen Introduction: We know that the acceleration due to gravity on the earth is 9.8ms -2. This acceleration is very important since we can use it to calculate gravity force, mass, and so on. In this lab, we use a free fall object to calculate its acceleration due to gravity to check if it is 9.8ms-2. We use the acceleration formula a=V2-V1t2-t1 to calculate the acceleration. Hypothesis: The acceleration due to gravity on the earth is 9.8ms -2. So in this lab, the acceleration in the result should also be 9.8ms-2 since the object experiences the free fall on the earth. Diagram: Free fall object diagram Free fall object diagram Motion detector Motion detector 1 meter 1 meter Point 2(V2 T2) Point 2(V2 T2) Point 1(V1 T1) Point 1(V1 T1) Free fall object Free fall object Method: In this lab, we used a motion detector to measure the velocities and times of the falling object. The range of the motion detector is one meter, so we have to drop the object from one meter above the ground. So to make the result more accurate, first we placed the motion detector on the top of the metal ring which is approximately one meter above the ground. After that we held the object under the motion detector. Then we started the motion detector and dropped the object at the same time. At last we observed the data in the computer provided by the motion detector. We chose two points which the falling object...

...1. Introduction Free falling objects are very common around us. Everyone knows , at a same certain height, a stone will fall faster than a leave. There is a common asumption that the phenomenon is due to the gravity force applied on the stone is larger than the force applied on the leave. We will consider during this experiment. 2. Uniformly Accelerated Motion: Free Fall

...EXPERIMENT #6: UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED MOTION: FREE FALL INTRODUCTION: A free falling object is an object that is falling under the sole influence of gravity. Any object that is being acted upon only by the force of gravity is said to be in a state of free fall. It is a motion of a body where its weight is the only force acting upon it. Our objective in this experiment is to measure the acceleration of a falling object assuming that only force acting on the object is the gravitational force. THEORY: As an object falls freely, it accelerates due to the applied net force. One equation of motion for a body starting from rest and undergoing constant acceleration can be expressed as: d = ½ at2 where d is the distance the object travelled from its starting point, a is the acceleration of the object, and t is the time elapsed since the motion began. PROCEDURE: Materials needed are: * Free fall apparatus * Small and Large metal ball * Smart timer * Clamp rod * Meter stick So first we measured the height of the release mechanism into 50 cm with the use of meter stick. In trial 1, we used small metal ball. Mounted the free fall adapter’s release mechanism horizontally in the clamp. We place the free fall adapter’s timing pad on the table directly below the release mechanism. We placed the metal ball in the release mechanism and pressed the spring loaded rod inward to hold the ball in the mechanism, and tighten the thumbscrew to hold the rod in place. Loosen...

...are glanced at and tossed aside the majority of the time. On rare occasions, we are handed graphs and charts that explain what they expect and shows us specifically what needs to be improved upon. Since our jobs are to care for the sick and hurt, this information is not tossed aside and is typically taken more seriously. One main focus for the nursing staff at my facility is safety scores. We have two medical-surgical floors, one including oncology and the other orthopedics, one intensive care unit, and one step-down intermediate care unit. We all share the same safety goals that are in place to insure our patients not only receive the best possible care but also remain injury free while that care is being provided. Each unit is given a score from 0 to 100 percent based on quarterly fall occurrences and prevention measures. Comparisons are made between each medical floor...

Tumbang Preso

...interesting no matter what genre and last October 9’s movie didn’t disappoint. We watched an indie film by Joey De Guzman titled Tumbang Preso. The title seemed really familiar to me so because I was curious, I looked it up. Tumbang Preso was actually a child’s play, no wonder why it was so familiar. I used to play it at my grandma’s place back in Leyte when I was younger too. I actually thought it meant the fall of a prison cell since tumbang means fall and preso was jail. Lo and behold, it meant both. I was impressed with what Mr. De Guzman had going on. So tumbang preso has always been played in one way for kids. A player called an IT, is assigned to guard a can. The rest of the players with their “pamatos” or what they use to hit the can, line up behind a line drawn on the ground. Once settled, the game starts and each kid gets a chance to make the can fall with his or her pamatos. Once the can falls, the owner must retrieve the pamato that made the can fall immediately before he or she is caught. If he is caught, he becomes IT. If the can is hit and falls outside the circle but still stands, the IT has the right to tag the one responsible for the pamato once he or she leaves behind the line. The can may be kicked or knocked down under when it is outside the circle. If the player is not able to retrieve his pamato, the others can save him by hitting the can. The movie was pretty much like the game. Those players behind the line are like the victims of human trafficking...

Advanced Professional Roles and Values Wgu

...Advance Professional Roles and Values Project Falls Keri Cochran October 20, 2014 Western Governor’s University The problem and explanation: The hospital I am employed at is currently having an issues with patient falls. The hospital is a “no restraint facility” and strongly discourages the use of any form of restraint including leather, soft, posey vests, or chemical. Currently the line of defense is using staff sitters, moving the patient to a visible room when available and or family members are encouraged to come and stay with their loved ones who are at high risk of falls. This does not always rectify the issues secondary to staffing issues and family participation. The facility has had two critical falls this year, one ending in a patient breaking a hip and the other a death secondary to hemorrhagic bleed to the brain. The facility has had numerous other falls which lead to added procedures, exposure to radiation (radiological exams) and increased lengths of stay, multiple bruises, fractures, pulled out IV which need to be preplaced, and numerous bleeds and skin tears. The unit I work on is a Medical Surgical Telemetry (4 Tower) unit which consists mainly of pre and post open heart patient and pre and post angiogram patients who may or may not have had interventions which include stents, plasty, TCPA, Pacemaker / AICD placement, and EP studies with ablations. The patient population is mainly sixty years of age and above, with a high incidence of diabetes...

Research Critique 2 Patient Falls

...characteristics of why patients fall in the hospital setting. The article being critiqued defines a fall as an unexpected drop from a sitting, standing, and lying position, which include an assisted fall (where someone helps guide them to the floor), slipping from a chair to the floor, and when a patient is found on the floor (Hitcho et al., 2008). This critique will discuss data collection, data management, analysis, and interpretation of the findings. The Washington University Institutional Review Board gave their approval for this study. Written consent was waived due to the fact that this study was part of a hospital-based project to improve quality. The study did not pose any risks to the patients as the patients were not put in any situation to induce a fall, and no precautions were taken away from patients that prevent falls. Several sources and a comprehensive fall data collection tool was used to collect data on the patients that fell during their hospitalization which included: the database of adverse events, the electronic medical record, the paper chart, and patient/ family interviews, where no objections to being interviewed were noted (Hitcho et al., 2008). The variables that were identified in the study were the patient’s information, details of the fall, contributing factors, injuries sustained, and the actions that were taken as a result of the fall. The patient information included the patient demographics, cognitive status, admitting diagnosis, fall history, medications...

... In the journal of Geriatrics &Gerontology International, there is an interesting article by Vassallo et al. that discusses the fall risk factors in older patients with cognitive impairment. The issue addressed is almost identical title, which is “Fall Risk Factors in Elderly Patients with Cognitive Impairment on Rehabilitation Wards.” It is a clear and concise title, which states the population (the elderly) and major variables. (the mentally cognitive and the cognitively impaired). The researchers who conducted the study are qualified doctors who are familiar with both the risk factors affecting the elderly in a rehabilitation facility and/ or environment. The abstract discusses various components. First, the purpose of the study is to discover why cognitively impaired patients are more likely to have reoccurring falls, and how they differ from the cognitively intact. Second, the use of sample variable of all males over 80 with past history of falls, recurrent falls, medical records, and medication were taken into consideration during this study. Lastly, the study offers a methodology, yields results and discusses the...

The Color of Moey

...he Cost of “Free” Will in Oedipus Rex (the King) Perhaps the Greek playwright Sophocles never had the concept of “free will” in mind when writing Oedipus Rex, but the play does allow for that interesting paradox we know today as free will. The paradox is: if Oedipus is told by the gods' oracles that he will kill his father and marry his mother, does he have any power to avoid this fate? That's a basic free will question. If Oedipus manages to avoid killing his father and marrying his mother, he will prove the gods wrong, and the oracle prediction turns out to be no prediction at all. How free can we truly be if created by an all knowing being? If God knows, even at the moment before our births, that we are already destined to ascend to Heaven or burn in Hell, can we move through life making truly free decisions? Or are we always to be viewed as puppets of destiny? Was Adam to be blamed for the fall? Or was that actually God's plan? So what is this idea of "original sin?" Shouldn't we celebrate Adam as a hero for freeing man from the state of unawareness that he lived in until he consumed the sacred pomegranate? Recall that the very first line following Adam and Eve's sin is "And they saw that they were naked." This nakedness is not so much of the body (though early Christians loved to view it that way), but rather a sense of viewing, as Joseph Campbell puts it, "duality," the basic difference between man and woman, right and wrong, and, ultimately, man and...

To Build a Fire

...extremely cold morning with a husky wolf-dog. The cold does not faze the man, a newcomer to the Yukon, who plans to meet his friends by six o'clock at an old claim. As it grows colder, he realizes his unprotected cheekbones will freeze, but he does not pay it much attention. He walks along a creek trail, mindful of the dangerous, concealed springs; even getting wet feet on such a cold day is extremely dangerous. He stops for lunch and builds a fire. The man continues on and, in a seemingly safe spot, falls through the snow and wets himself up to his shins. He curses his luck; starting a fire and drying his foot-gear will delay him at least an hour. His feet and fingers are numb, but he starts the fire. He remembers the old-timer from Sulphur Creek who had warned him that no man should travel in the Klondike alone when the temperature was fifty degrees below zero. The man unties his icy moccasins, but before he can cut the frozen strings on them, clumps of snow from the spruce tree above fall down and snuff out the fire. Though building a fire in the open would have been wiser, it had been easier for the man to take twigs from the spruce tree and drop them directly below on to the fire. Each time he pulled a twig, he had slightly agitated the tree until, at this point, a bough high up had capsized its load of snow. It capsized lower boughs in turn until a small avalanche had blotted out the fire. The man is scared, and sets himself to building a new fire, aware that he is already going...

Does Man Have Free Will

...Does man have free will? This question has been asked within the church since its inception. If man’s will is free then in a sense there is a part of creation that exists outside of God’s control, bringing His sovereignty into question. If man does not have free will his significance as the height of the created order is lessened. The question is further clouded by the fact that the Bible seems to support both ideas; that man is free and wholly responsible for his actions and that God is sovereign over every action within his creation. Paul Tillich describes the issue writing, “The question is whether the moral imperative is dependent on the divine grace for its actualization, or whether divine grace is dependent on the fulfillment of the moral imperative.”[1] This debate has been the cause of much disagreement throughout the history of the church. Brought to the forefront of debate by Augustine, arguing for the sovereignty of God, and Pelagius, arguing for the free will of man, the discussion over the relationship between God’s control and man’s ability has continued to this day. Later, during the reformation, Calvinists and Arminians continued the debate over the role man plays in the salvation process. This disagreement has caused Roger E. Olson to write, “We need to shoulder the responsibility of choosing between Calvinism and Arminianism. That does not mean choosing between Christianity and something else. It means choosing between two respectable interpretations...
