Walking On a Line of Freedom Freedom. The most amazing gift the founding fathers gave America. The right not only to have a voice and be heard, but also to express that voice with our beliefs and patriotisms. There are those though, that walk that line of freedom and purposely use it to hurt and offend others. T They cause harm and discomfort with their speech or expressions, causing conflict on deciding what’s just and unjust in the constitution. Are they correct in their actions? No, but the First Amendment was made to protect their rights, which include speech and expression. Freedom of speech does not mean it will always be used justly and candidly. In fact, Derek Bok stated, “The fact that speech is protected by the First Amendment does not necessarily mean that it is right, proper, or civil.” (Bok 66) There are those that choose to abuse freedom of speech, and like immature adolescence, seek joy out of insulting and offending others. They are ignorant, insensible, and unenlightened on what the First Amendment was truly made for. This is the reason freedom of speech is not always used justly and properly. Another misunderstood and abused right is the freedom of expression. Expression, is a proclamation or declaration presented in an outward aspect. The First Amendment helps protect laws from violating the right of freedom of expression. This unfortunately just like freedom of speech, does not always mean it is used correctly and honestly. Yet again there are those that choose to walk that line of freedom and hurt and shame others. These individuals misunderstand and violate expression with no clear though of respect. Freedom of expression like speech, will always be violated by those who are ignorant and misunderstanding of their rights. In conclusion, the First Amendment protects all rights including speech and expression. Speech and expression can

Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Speech

...Wars Over the past decade technology has enabled people to express and showcase the right to freedom of speech in ways that they never could before. Technology promotes freedom of speech but also facilitates hate speech, thus bringing countries into an ongoing brawl. Through text messages, Facebook live, photographs and even videos, the age of the internet has exploded into a time of instant knowledge and access to anything a person has to say, and freely doing so in that matter. In countries where this right is oppressed and real weapons are no use, violent words and actions through the internet has been the result that many have gone to in expressing these undermined struggles (245). Julius Malema, a former South African leader chanted words from an old anti-apartheid anthem that enraged Afrikaners and set off a cultural epidemic on the internet. The words “Dubuiu iBunu” meaning “shoot the Boer” instantly affected not only white farmers, but their counterparts across the world as well. ...our religious freedoms and rights. The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. (US Constitution) This freedom established by our fore fathers continues to be important not only to me but to everyone in our society. So, what does the First Amendment guarantee? It helps to protect freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. Our nation’s lawmakers, Congress, cannot promote one religion over another nor restrict an individual’s religious practices. The First Amendment allows for freedom of expression. It does not allow Congress to restrict the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right for people to gather peacefully and to petition their government. Essay On Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedom

...Introduction The Canadian charter of rights and freedom is one part of the Canadian Constitution. The Constitution is a set of laws containing the basic rules about how our country operates. For example, it contains the powers of the federal government and those of the provincial governments in Canada Importance The Constitution is the supreme law of Canada. Generally speaking, all other laws must be consistent with the rules set out in the Constitution. If they are not, they may not be valid. Since the Charter is part of the Constitution, laws that limit Charter rights may be invalid. This makes the Charter the most important law we have in Canada. It is important to point out, however, that the Charter itself allows governments to put some limits on Charter rights. Section 1 of the Charter says that other laws may limit the rights and freedoms in the Charter so long as those laws are reasonable and justified in a free and democratic society. So, a law that limits a Charter right is nevertheless valid if it conforms with section 1. The fact that the Charter is part of the Constitution also means that governments must try to make sure that new laws are consistent with it. For example, the federal Department of Justice must make sure that new laws proposed by the federal government comply with the Charter....

Freedom Essay

...balance between freedom, equality and solidarity. How much freedom?  How much solidarity?  Why?   Solidarity, freedom and equality are very similar. They only have little distinct between each other, when it is ready further in detail. One strong element is that they all require power. This is the main element that is a huge symbol. Every country has its own sets of rules that need to be followed, so no one can “everyone is treated equally” because they really are not. Each and every human being has the right to freedom of speech, but only to a certain extent. Lastly, solidarity is being faithful, every member of that group is more or likely similar. Now the idea of modern human rights have completely different view than they did before. It was more conservative and it focuses more the socialism. This is a huge step because then freedom, solidarity and equality get a different idea  Freedom: “The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint”.  [1] Freedom is having the right to do what one desires, as long as no one is being hurt. As well as one may travel, whenever they need to. There are not many restrictions held upon us such as: going to school, chose what one would desire to make a living for.  In a country like Canada, one is allowed to choose his or her identity without being discriminated upon. Freedom is strongly believed through the wants and needs of ours individually. No one has the full capacity to freedom even if they say...

Essay On 1984 Freedom

...The war between security and freedom has been fought for centuries; from the times of tyrants to the creation of the United States and the present. The book 1984 is a perfect example of ending the war on security and freedom. Where freedom is the ability to do anything and not have any repercussions. The world of 1984 has neither security nor freedom, only control through power and gives an illusion of both. Freedom can be found in every living class in 1984 including the Inner Party, Outer Party, and to The Proles. Freedom being the subject at hand begins in the Inner Party. The Inner Party conveys the stronger form of freedom in various ways, two of which are the freedom to give anyone suffrage and to have sexual relations with whomever. O’Brien, asks the question, “how does one man assert his power over another” giving him an...

Essay On Freedom Of Speech

...Freedom of Speech: UAE People have been fighting for their rights to be respected by governments and societies worldwide. The right to equality between races, gender and nationalities has been a long struggle. In today’s world, while some citizens still fight for such rights, the more common issue worldwide is the right to freedom of speech. A fundamental right for people to be able to communicate their opinion in the public sphere, free speech is legally defined as “the right to express beliefs and opinions without unwarranted government restriction” (Franklyn, 1993). There are many examples on how this could be practiced, ranging from as simple as someone speaking in a public space about his or her political views and opinion of the current ruler to a non-intrusive protest by a large group of people about a certain issue (homosexuals’ rights, political leadership, economic situations and many more examples). Some countries might have freedom of speech as a right in its legislative system, but the implementation of this would often be responses with an intolerant reaction from the government. There...

Freedom Definition Essay

...As we look at the meaning of Freedom it is hard not to reflect on the history of our nation. Our nation gives us many freedoms which I define as one’s ability to make their own decision when it comes to many topics. Religion, politics, which state to live in, where to work etc. Many people think just because they have many freedoms they don’t have any consequences but just because you have a freedom to make a decision doesn’t mean it is the correct one. Anytime you exercise your freedom you must ensure you don’t offend anyone. Liberty is the ability to live free within a nation with your views on certain topics changing those liberties. Every Liberty is guaranteed within the Bill of Rights. In the eyes of our Founding Fathers they believed...

Freedom of Speech Essay

...I was at my house and my phone rings and it is my brother’s friend. He had got in a car crash because he didn’t see that there was a curve until it was too late. The driver had got his head put in the front windshield and the passenger hit the roof which made his eye have a medium size cut. In hero literature, authors use heroes to symbolize freedom combined with details that describe power corrupts which within the hero genre allow readers to experience birth and ultimately consider the pattern. First, I believe that a hero has to be someone who goes out of his or her name to help or save someone that they know or even don’t know because I always think of someone who walks up to someone who is homeless and gives them something to eat or even some money. The other thing that I think of would be when you see someone in the hall is having trouble and have dropped their things and you go help them pick it up. Second, in the story The Adventures of Robin Hood, Robin Hood is the hero because he shows how he is overpowering the villain. Robin Hood personifies the spring because he talks about it being spring time a lot. Robin Hood rose above the villain once he started to become famous. This story inspires us to rise above the common person and defeat evil because we see that someone else could do it so we have an example of how to overcome the “evil” in our life. Third, I think that Sundiata personifies a coin at the tip of a mountain because if you hit it at all it will fall...
