...France Divided On Oct. 27, 7:00 p.m., I was present for a film review involving an aspect of the Holocaust that took place in France. The Film was comprised of individual interviews with survivors of the holocaust as well as noted historians with great knowledge of the deportation of Jews in France. The creators of this film are Doctors in their own right. The speaker this night, Dr. Angelini, collaborated with Dr. P. Barnett. Dr. Angelina has a PhD in twentieth century French Literature and is a language professor as well. This film can be taken in a historical context as well as in a context of language. As the lights dimmed and the film began, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of history. It was presented in a way that gave us the feel of the past. It was not in high-definition, but rather a kind of older film I remember watching in high school in the past. This film included very old clips of France during the deportation years, as well as prominent German officials such as Heinrich Himmler and Adolph Hitler. As well as clips from the past, the multiple interviews (which were shortened from two hours to roughly seven minutes) unmask the true story of Jews in France which had been covered up for nearly 40 years. The film gives us a first-hand account of the atrocities from people that were there. This documentary is titled “Patriot or Traitor”, because Jacques openly provides the information on his great-uncle that allows the viewer to ultimately make the decision on how we wish to view this great Canadian. With slight bias, Jacques realizes his fascination with Adelard’s politics may be caused because his childhood was influenced by him, since he and his family were framed as outcasts due to the connection. This documentary covers the important role Adelard played in World War II, mainly concerning conscription and Canada’s relationship with Britain, the Nazi’s, and the political conflicts within Canada caused by diversity. He directed two anti-colonialism in the 1960, when most of the movie-going audience was probably comfortably numb to the plight of the Third World. He created a film genre (anti-colonialism) that while at first controversial would eventually become a mainstream source for modern classics. He was one of the first directors to take on the challenging subjects of terrorism and torture, in an era where the preferred treatment of the historical film was sterilization, not realism. Pontecorvo portrayed women realistically, not as an idealized pieces of scenery. Most important, Pontecorvo achieved the admirable feat of creating films that accurately reflected historical accuracy and cinematic excellence. And he did all this while advancing a political thesis. After a close examination of the MPAA movie rating system, it is clear that there are many flaws both because of its unfair rating of different films and also because of its vague guidelines.
