Renee:
(looking around) Every year it's the same old New Year's Eve party, same old people.
Lacey:
Who are you calling old?
Renee:
You know what I mean. Nothing ever changes.
Rapper ZZZ: Yo! What you sayin? I wore different shoes last year.
Gabby:
I'm changing something this year.
Mike:
What? Fur coats?
Everyone laughs haughtily
Gabby:
No. Well yes, actually. I'm making a New Year's Resolution not to eat c
Renee:
(gasps) Are you sure you want to do that?
Gabby:
I'm sure. It's not like I'm giving up all my designers, just a few. I want to limit myself to 2-3 new outfits a week.
Marcus:
(to Mike) How much was she buying before?
Mike:
She'd usually come home with that many a day.
Lacey:
But what about shoes? I just heard Manolo Blahnik (MA-no-low Bah-lon-ick) is coming out with a whole new line of jungle prints. You don't want to miss that!
Gabby:
Girl, I didn't say I was I crazy. Of course I'll be buying those shoes! Every pair!
Peter:
Are those the ones that cost like $500 a pair?
Mike:
That's barely the starting price. She's got this one pair that was almost $1500. And that was a bargain!
Lacey:
No price is too high for Manolo Blahniks! But, I have to say you've inspired me, Gabby. I want to make a New Year's Resolution too.
Peter:
This ought to be good.
Lacey:
I' m going to cut back on my diamonds.
Peter:
Really?
Lacey:
Yes. I spend thousands of dollars on necklaces and rings but I can't possibly wear them all. I've got so many diamond bracelets now I don't know what to do with them.
Renee:
Maybe you should try rubies or sapphires instead of diamonds. They would go beautifully with your complexion.

Food, Fun and Friends in France and the Southern United States of America

...English 1101 Food, Fun and Friends in France and the Southern United States of America Red wine, sweet tea, ice cold beer, chilled champagne, soft drinks, croissants, barbeque, fried chicken, bleu cheese, American processed cheese…all of these are symbols of good eating and drinking. Furthermore, these symbols are commonly enjoyed by two diverse and unique cultures; the French and the southerners of the United States of America. What underlying factors link these two diverse and unique cultures together? It is a common assumption that the French culture enjoys extremely rich and fattening foods, along with the fact that the French are obsessed with having a good time. It is just as well known that Southerners also enjoy the same rich and fattening foods, and they too know how to have a good time eating and drinking. Research has shown similarities and differences in immigration, social interaction and diet habits between the two cultures. The United States of America is known as a huge ‘melting pot’. America is made up of many nationalities and the southern region represents that same multi-cultural picture. “The population of the Southern United States is made up of many different people who came to the region in a variety of ways, each contributing to what is now called ‘Southern cooking’(Food In Every Country).” The various cultures included American Indians, Spanish explorers, West Africans, Creoles, and Cajuns. Each diverse group introduced foods, spices...

Friendship

...without friendships is not a life worth living. In so many words, a life without friendships can be lonely and one can become depressed without it. My friends encourage me when I am sad, keep me sane in day to day life, entertain me when I am lonely, and they listen when I have problems. There are a variety of friendships in my life: acquaintances, fun friends and confidants. Though some might only consider those they truly trust friends, it is a little different for me. My acquaintances are the people who I work with, my neighbors, and the people I go to school with. This group of friends is a part of my day to day living, and helps keep me sane. Regardless if I am having a good day or a bad day, they are there to change the route of my mood. There are many things we do together, we have casual conversations about work, our families, shopping or just enjoy a simple lunch together. These basic conversations help me take my mind off the many stressful things that may burden my day. This type of friendship has helped me grow as a person and taught me how to manage my day to day social life. I keep my life very simple with my acquaintances, not too personal, but close enough to maintain an ongoing relationship with them. The fun friends in my life are my going out for the night group of friends. This is the group of friends I make dinner plans with, go dancing with or even catch a movie together. I release steam, have great laughs and take many selfies! They are always...

School Year

...9th grade school year The 2012-2013 year was fun and educational. Even though some of the classes were hard, I still managed to pass it. I love learning new things and have fun in class and meeting new people every day and make new friends. In English, the teacher helped us prep for the GRAD TEST, which was very smart. While prepping for the GRAD TEST I gained some new knowledge like how to make the essay sound very interesting. I was very excited seeing my score that I got from the practice essay since the teacher grade the same like how the GRAD TEST will be graded. However, the history day essay was very fun, too. It was fun because I got to research about the topic that I picked and I picked “Birth Control”, which was a very interesting topic. Some of the information that I learn from “Birth Control” while I was researching was that between 1910 and 1915, 300,000 women died in childbirth. That’s more than all of the men who died in the U.S. wars from the Revolution to World War 1. History day essay was also fun because I get to use the information that I had research on “Birth Control” onto my essay that I am writing. In French, the teacher was very good at teaching because he is very easy going and I understand everything he is teaching. Another thing about my French teacher is that he is very nice and he gives out candy to his students. Also learning different languages gives us more knowledge on the culture and also improves our communication skills with others in...

The Boy That Cured My Boredness Research Paper

...The Boy That Cured My Boredness When I was a little kid in kindergarten I went to one of my friends landon birthday party at centegra. It was a pretty fun party and during the party I see a small kid by the name of Grant Hochmuth. It was the first time that I had met him only that day. I went on with my life and school was really boring. I had some friends like a kid named Edward wall me and him where really good friends (and still are) but school was still pretty boring. 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade were all some of the boringest years of school and I never really had fun at school. Then it came to 4th fourth grade and when I walked in I saw a very familiar face the face of a boy names Grant Hochmuth. It was a long time since I had seen him and I was very excited. Right away me and him became really good friends but this time I would be friends with him for the long run. Grant and I got to know each other more and more and he introduced me to one of his friends named Landon Koeppen. I remembered landon a little bit but we didn't really like each other at first but then we started to be good friends. After a while all three of us had become very good friends. We would sit with each other all the time in lunch and always had played together in recess. Recess was the best...

Withmy Friends

...With my friends in school I did not have to go far to witness the five gestures which are emblems, illustrators, regulators, adaptors and affect displays. I just have to hang around with my friends in school and already, I can witness the different kind of gestures because most of my friends have so much energy that they move and express themselves a lot that it is very easy to detect their gestures. To be specific, we were in the campus in our favourite hang-out place: Student Lounge (Room 1132) chatting, fooling around and telling stories each other funny stories and if there is nothing new, tell recycled funny stories. We also do serious stuff such as teaching each other about school topics that one of us is struggling. The most obvious gesture that I witnessed is laughing which is an affect display of emotion motivated by fun. Laugh conveyed fun and happiness and familiarity with the person we are with which is why we laugh a lot when we are together. I can no longer count the times that my friends laugh since everybody was telling silly stories and making fun of each other. The second gesture I saw was a cross arm coming one of my female friends that we were making fun of. Again, this is an affective display of emotion but this time, it was motivated by disgust and being defensive because my friends were making fun of her. I only noticed this once followed by with her hands akimbo when she was about to asset her point. I only...

Stuff I Do for Fun

...it. People do different things for fun, and so do I. I may not be too different but the things I like aren't in the same taste as everyone else. For one thing, I enjoy video games a little too much. Believe it or not I can play video games literally all day long. I've been grounded for obsessive gameplay. But that's something I love to do for fun. And again, not everybody is the same, not everyone is not like me. Games I like to play are mostly action; fast paced action. But I also enjoy the good old adventure game or role playing game. With action games it's usually the typical ones like Call of Duty and Darksiders 2. But a good game I will never get tired of is The Legend of Zelda. Another thing I do for fun is read. This is usually a back up for my playing video games. When I say that I mean if I am grounded or nowhere near any video games, I enjoy my time with a good book. I'm a guy and most people find this feminine but I enjoy reading a good romantic novel every once in awhile, but I usually go for science fiction or fantasy fiction. But for me the book always has to have a little bit of drama in it or else I can't read it. Novel series that I read and really enjoyed would be The Vampire Diaries, Harry Potter, and Eragon. One thing that I prefer to do over everything else is to spend time with my friends and my girlfriend as well. Friends are always a good way to spend time. Friends won't always be there for you I will admit but they...

Key to Life in High School

...There are things we wish we knew when we were younger that we know now. We look back on life and wonder if someone would have told us how to live life a few years ago, we would not be in the same situation we are in now. For example, a relative telling you to not regret anything you do in life, or to always live in the moment and not look back. Advice is key to living a great life. If one listens to the people who have already experienced what he or she is now going through, one could embrace life and live it to the best of their potential. One should listen to their elders; they know what they are talking about. Even though I have not experienced a lot in my life, I have been through high school and know now how to handle it. One piece of advice is to always be independent and not thrive on following the crowd or trying to look “cool.” I, personally, have always been independent and love being on my own. If you try to be a follower, you will not experience life for yourself; you will be experiencing life through another person. Being independent during high school will also help you when you go to college and even after that. If you want to go away for school or are planning on moving out of your parents’ home, you will not have mommy and daddy to depend on. Not depending on anyone but yourself will bring you closer to finding out who you really are and you will have a better understanding of what life feels like when you are on your own. Not believing everything...

Kindred Argumentative Essay

...Have you ever wanted to go to a movie that you really, really wanted to see, but you didn’t have anyone to drive you all the way to Fargo? That happens to me a lot, and I don’t like being in that situation at all. If Kindred got a movie theater, it would be a lot easier to convince people to drive you to a movie because it’s not as far as Fargo. It would also supply high school students with jobs all year round, provide a great place for friends to hang out and have fun together, and then people in the Kindred area wouldn’t have to drive all the way to Fargo, just to see a movie that won’t even last that long. Kindred should build a movie theater. High school students usually want to get a job. But what if they don’t have many job options...

...Providing your child with opportunities to "branch out" and make new friends can be a fun and rewarding way to grow important social skills. Materials: * Sky blue construction paper (your choice of size) * Green construction paper (enough to cut out one leaf per friend, plus enough for new friends to come) * Brown yarn * Liquid glue * Scissors * Felt tip marker for writing Directions: Provide a fun opportunity for your students to enjoy time together by "growing" individual Friend Trees. Begin by assisting each child in making a list of favorite friends, young and old. Use liquid glue to help each child trace a tree design onto a piece of blue paper. Before glue has time to dry, press brown yarn into the glue to outline or completely fill-in each tree trunk and branches. Allow glued yarn to dry. Use green paper to cut-out enough leaves for every name on each child's list, plus some extra leaves for future friends. Write one name on each leaf. Then glue leaves on the lower branches, working up and out. Keep supplies handy so each child can continue adding new friends until the Friend Trees are fully grown. Tip: Cut-out a heart design for tree leaves. Talk about It: Ask them to share characteristics that make a friend fun to play with. Then think about ways new friends can get to know each other better like playing games, cooking, and watching cartoons. Share ideas about how friends can show each other they...
