The article I will be summarizing caught my eye because it explains which skills sets that will be needed for future jobs. This article is basing itself looking forward to the year 2020 and gives advice on which skill sets people should be preparing themselves for in the next 8 years. This article was written by a lady names Vickie Jimenez. She goes into detail about the importance of why having one or more of these skill sets are going to be so important in 2020. Personally I agree with her, because the world we live in now is not the world we were born into. Technology has grown so much in the past 20-30 years, which makes you think about how much more it is going to grow in the next decade. For example, Ms. Jimenez believes these skill sets are the most important out of any careers in the world today. The seven skill sets she talks about are; leaderships and management roles, social technologists/specialist, consulting, writing and editing, virtual assisting, IT (information technologists), and medical professionals. Jimenez explains that this world is turning itself into a globalized computer technology based universe. In more detail, this means technology is literally taking workforce jobs away from us because any industry anywhere is turning itself into computer based ran machines. With more technology comes less jobs. Also, the out sourcing for jobs now has become normal for the United States of America and many other countries. This is not a good thing for our work force future. Anybody and everybody now a day needs to have an education to even make the first steps into our future and to guarantee they will have a career. The skill sets she mentions are going to be very valuable in 2020 because of the technology epidemic. The leadership/ management, social technologists/specialist, consulting, virtual assisting, and IT (information technologists) all fall into the same group. Jimenez explains that it will be important for us, as up and coming career building people to be knowledgeable an well cultured. This will be important because of how many jobs are overseas. The person in these positions will need to know different languages along with the right way of doing things to even be considered for any of these roles. Being diverse will open jobs for people working in any type of computer based positions. As everybody knows, the “HR” person at any job is the person between managers, an in this case, the person between the countries we are outsourcing our work too. Social technologists and consults will be hired right off the back because workers in these positions must be social able along with being totally experienced in the role they will be working. Not to mention that these positions will be going right along with being computer suave. The last two positions are writing and editing fields along with the medical professional. One good thing about going to school in the medical field is that there will always be jobs available. As the population gets larger, so will the need for medical professions in all specialties. Vickie Jimenez explains that having good writing and editing skills will be highly needed because we will need to know how to communicate with our outsourced countries without looking ignorant. As she goes on to explain the world we live in is forming itself to be mostly reliable on computers. Having good “writing and editing skills will be in high demand” (Jimenez, 2010)For every one of these skill sets stated the person in these roles will need to know how to write papers, proper emails, letters, and most important being able to explain directions for the new technology coming our way. In conclusion Vicky Jimenez makes extremely valid points on being successful in the future. For our country, for our children, for the baby boomers to generation 2020, will need a new way of thinking when it comes to being successful. Technology is not going to go away. I myself can see how this world is going to be totally reliable on computers and that we as a country need to focus more on what will pay the bills instead of what will make us happy in the career we will be in.

Coaching and Mentoring

...ABSTRACT Introductions The use of coaching and mentoring is on the rise within the workplace. Several organizations have adopted the process of coaching and mentoring as development tools to develop those employees who are seeking future advancement. Also, they are setting the foundation for future leaders. The adaption of these developmental tools within an organization is providing employees with the necessary feedback and support to establish and plan their career. Coaching and mentoring provides an employee with the necessary leadership and management skills they would need to strive up the career ladder within an organization. These processes are both ‘helping’ activities, employed either as distinct interventions or together as part of a package of personal development? Coaching and mentoring are deemed a highly effective way to help employees through talking, sense of direction and guidance, self esteem, efficacy and accomplishment. The differences in the application stages of these processes are naturally reflected in the results. Coaching and Mentoring In my opinion, Coaching and Mentoring are excellent programs for organization to have in place, especially for personal whom are seeking future advancement and want to excel in their careers with the organizations. A recent CIPD (Chartered Institute of Development) surveys have reported that the use of coaching and mentoring as development tool are increasing within organizations. According to those......

Career Management

...becoming increasingly critical to career success. While employment rose for Canadians with university and college educations, 651,000 fewer jobs existed for those people without high school qualifications. Unemployment rates in the U.S. exceed 10% for those with less than a high school diploma and approximately 2.5% for college graduates.1 When professional designations (i.e., accounting, engineering) are taken into account, the data on employability and income is skewed in favour of the professional, relative to those who possess only a post secondary educational background. However, in order to maintain a competitive edge, individuals must continue to invest in their development throughout their careers. Specifically, with respect to the future for business and accounting positions, “growth due to the increasing number and complexity of business operations will be offset somewhat by corporate restructuring and downsizing of management, resulting in average growth for executive, administrative and managerial occupations. Because these workers are employed throughout the economy, differences in rate of expansion for individual industries will produce varying rates of employment change — job seekers with previous work experience, specialized training, or graduate study have an advantage in competition for jobs.”2 Consequently, a combination of education and experience figure prominently in...

What separates me from all the other potential candidates is that I have the independence, motivation and experience from the real world to apply myself fully at Carnegie-Melon University. In my experience from manufacturing with National Petroleum Product Company (NPPC) to banking with Qatar National Bank (QNB), leading to auditing with one of the big four firms; KPMG, I have had a wealth of exposure to the business world. I have undergone job experiences such as an apprenticeship at NPPC, which introduced me to the responsibilities and work ethic required to succeed.  An Internship at QNB Capital which gave me the platform to develop a professional persona and understand the nuances of the business world, and lastly a rigorous 12 hour daily internship at KPMG which has taught me the skills to work and think both independently and as a valuable member of a team. These experiences all complement the diverse skill set that shaped my personality. I have volunteered in red-cross sponsored charity events and organized my own events (American School of Doha Talent Show, Pakistan Flood Relief Red Cross Charity Fundraiser). Competency Mapping

...effectively. Such list should be used for recruitment, performance management, promotions, placements and training needs identification. In performing or carrying out work, it is essential that the required job skills first be articulated. This information not only helps to identify individuals who have the matching skills for doing the work but also the skills that will enhance the successful performance of the work. Yet often to perform well, it is not enough just to have these skills. It is also critical to complement the skills with the necessary knowledge and attitudes. For e.g. the necessary knowledge will enable an individual to apply the right skills for any work situation that will arise while having the right attitude will motivate him to give his best efforts. These skills, knowledge and attitudes required for the work are usually collectively referred as competencies. How Is “Competency” Defined in the Context of This Article? Many definitions of the term “competencies” have arisen over the past decade. The definition that I most prefer is as follows: Competencies include the collection of success factors necessary for achieving important results in a specific job or work role in a particular organization. Success factors are combinations of knowledge, skills, and attributes (more historically called “KSA’s”) that are described in terms of specific...
