Back to the Classroom

Parents who went to school in the past were taught differently than the way we are taught today. Many were impecunious in the past; the students were pushed harder, helping them gain scholarships for college. There weren’t many distractions technologically speaking. History has been evolving; curriculum wasn’t as simple as it is now as it was back then. Teachers taught students with discipline and respect. Students in the past weren’t wealthy which caused them to work and be pushed even harder. For example, my mother had a rough childhood, because my grandparents weren’t wealthy at the time. She had to work really hard to keep her grades up. Students were expected by their parents to do well in school; gain scholarships and hopefully attend college. Students didn’t have the proper supplies to complete their course work such as pens and pencils. In the 1900s; students were not very motivated, the only motivation received was from pushing themselves to do better. Quandom students were way more disciplined then the minds of today. Whenever they caused problems they got whacked across the face for misbehaving. If they were to utter words during a lesson or during a time of silence they also got disciplined. When spoken to many students answered “yes and no mam”. When looking at how money and discipline worked in the past and comparing them to now and days we can obviously see a huge difference. Now in the 21st Century we as a generation don’t understand how fortunate we are to have parents that went through the rough period of school. Most of us growing up were told that education is the key to having a bright future. We believe it’s easy to grow up and automatically have money. Most of us believe that our parents are going to pay for college so we can take it easy in high school. In some cases that is true, but in others...

Past to Future

...Past to Future 1 My Life’s Story: Past to Future PSY 202 Dr. Louise Framan Past to Future 2 My Life’s Story: Past to Future As you read this paper you will get a better understanding of the kind of women I am. You will read how my family and life experiences shaped me into the person I am today. I grew up in a small town called Louisburg. Louisburg’s population is about 5,000. Also the town is north of Raleigh, North Carolina. I have a lot of family in this town. My parents live here. I’ve lived in Louisburg almost my whole life. I’m now 34 and I got a birthday coming up on Sunday the 4th of September. I now stay in Raleigh, North Carolina. Growing up in Louisburg was a blessing for me because my parents always supported me in what ever I wanted to do in life. My mom was more strict than my dad. You would think that my dad would’ve been the strict one because he is a man, and plus I’m his little girl. Just the opposite, I could get away with things with dad more easily than with my mom. Especially growing up, mother always wanted to know who I would be talking to on the phone, who I was going to be hanging out with. My mom was an old fashioned woman. She had to meet all my friends including my boyfriends, she would call all my friends parents to see if the story I had told her was accurate or not, if the story didn’t sound right I didn’t go out anywhere I had to stay home. My dad on the other hand was a different story., I was......

Past, Present, Future

...Running head: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE Past, Present and Future Brandon M. Kilmade PSY 202 Professor Ramsey June 8, 2009 Past, Present and Future Things are finally starting to come together for me in my 35th year in this adventure called life. I have been through ups and some major downs in my lifetime and everything that I have experienced has had a part in why I am the way I am today. Little did I know that my past would have a great effect on my future, as well. I sit here today with a clear image of who I want to be and what it will take to uphold that image. I know where I want to be and how to get there, now I just need to let life take its course and wait. This is a journey of my life past, present and future. Growing up as the youngest child of three was quite an advantage for me. I got to see firsthand what not to do and who not to hang out with. This only helped me to be more aware and to be careful. Universal changes are common to every individual in a species and are linked to specific ages (Boyd & Bee, 2006). I was in class way before I ever stepped foot in a classroom. Life lessons I learned before my life had really begun. I came from a loving but dysfunctional family setting. I cannot really say that I had the best role models to look up to or follow. My parents split up when I was eight years old. My dad was a deadbeat and my Mother had to provide for us on her own. Needless to say her best was not enough and we still needed help......

...Past, Present, & Future Paper GEN 480 Celena Hadlock Past, Present, & Future Paper The Past Upon starting my education with the University of Phoenix program I was unemployed and actively seeking re-employment. Prior to losing my job I was running an exceptional sports program at one of our organizations premier facilities in a very affluent community. However, I was feeling as though I had hit a plateau in my career and professional development due to not having my degree. The next areas of professional growth for me in my field involve becoming an Executive Director or an Association Youth Sports Director, but both of these positions require me to possess a degree. Not having my degree completely removed these career options from my reach and left me trapped in a dead position without much room for future upward growth or mobility. I felt that finding time to continue my education and secure my degree was not an option. Continuing my education was very important for my personal growth and development. Experiencing the rewards of learning both as a student and as certified CPR and Lifeguard instructor of several years I feel strongly about the role that learning plays in an individual’s development. Learning new things helps to keep individuals connected and engaged in the world around us and adds understanding and value to our lives. Learning impacts every part of who we are as human beings and increases the potential for who we......

Past Present and Future

...Past, Present, and Future Growing up I did not have much encouragement to get an education beyond high school. In fact, I swore I would never go college. My words exactly were, “I am not crazy enough to finish 13 years of school just to go back for another 4 or more and have to pay for it!!!” The thought was absolutely ridiculous. Then I started my first job at Sonic Drive In. I saw grown men working hard in the kitchen and sweating over a hot stove all day everyday. Suddenly a college education was very appealing. At the age of 17 I moved in with my now husband who was 25 at the time. He was in college finishing his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. I was a senior in high school. As soon as I finished, with his help I enrolled in the local community college where I finished my general education then transferred to the University of North Texas to study criminal justice. However, I was only there a year when I quit due to being undecided on what I wanted to do with a criminal justice degree. I went to work full time instead. I quickly realized that I was capable of doing so much but needed a college degree to even have a chance unless I wanted to stay at the same place forever. That is when I changed jobs to one that would allow me the flexibility I needed to finish school. That was two years ago. Today I feel better about myself for accomplishing so much. I have learned that I am stronger than I ever realized that once I put my mind to something I will succeed.......

Past Present Future

...Knowing what my past reading and writing experiences are, will explain how I got to where I am currently in my abilities to read and write. Some of the experiences might have been positive or negative, but with those experiences, I will use them to teach the importance of reading and writing with my future students. As a toddler, I first discovered books by touching, tasting, and even occasionally tearing pages. Doing these things provided me with the opportunity to explore written materials. My mom also helped in my discovery of reading. Every evening, before bedtime, I would gather many books and snuggle up in my moms lap. Listening to her read was always an adventure. My favorite memory of my mom reading to me was when she would try to imitate what she believed the voices of different characters might be. This set a lifelong love for books and learning. Another one of my fondest memories of literacy was when I was in kindergarten and we had a special time when our teacher read to us. It was always at the same time each day, naptime. Each student would race to get a little carpet to lie down. The teacher would dim the lights and begin to read with a soft voice. I remember that I would get so excited to hear the story, but before she could finish the book, I, along with most of the other students, was sound asleep. Television (T.V.) was never an option in my house. If we did not have something to do, we found a book, magazine or newspaper to read. It was more......

His single mother raised Jamar because his father passed away when he was just a boy. Deloris raised her eight children alone in a rough neighborhood, but that didn’t stop her from giving her youngest son every opportunity to succeed. “Tough neighborhood – a lot of challenges every day,” said Jamar. “School wasn’t really my biggest thing. I’m from a single-parent household and my mom’s main thing was making sure a roof was over me and my brother’s head.” When things got tough for Jamar he picked up a basketball and would shoot at the local park for hours. It was a sanctuary for him. “When I was out there shooting around I felt like nothing could touch me,” Jamar said. ...My Favorite memory My Favorite memory was when I first played in a softball game, it was very exciting, nerve reckon and challenging. Stepping into the field was the best feeling in the world. The air was so fresh. The field was very smooth and the dirt was crispy brown. I remembered watching girl’s plays softball at a young age and I always wanted to see how it felt to play. I became fascinated and was amazed how older girls played amongst themselves and I actually learned just by watching. Playing softball for the first time was exciting. The weather was very nice, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, the birds chirped and the wing blew so smoothly. I could also hear the crowed yelling and shouting excited to see the game. My parents were also there supporting me at my first game. Lincoln high school, a school that wasn’t very good in softball but that was my team. We were facing a school from Parsippany. It was a home game so we played in our field in Lincoln Park. It was diamond shape. The dirt was very smooth as I entered the field with my team. The grass on the outfield was wet and green, it was very shiny. Being my first time I was very happy and excited to play. I couldn’t imagine how much fun I was going to have. Softball is very nerve reckon sport. Trying to catch every ball that comes your way or hitting the ball to make a run. Having two strikes on you, 2 outs, last inning and the game is tied makes you really nervous. In my memory, after the team got......

My Past, Present, and Future

...My Past, Present, and Future PSY 202 My past was my future, and both were full of doubt and unwillingness to continue my education after I graduated from high school. After high school, three individuals impacted my life and changed my views on family, life, and education. Several years passed with me working a steady job until I found myself almost unemployed and needing the education I had not pursued. This resulted in my decision to join the Army to support my financial needs. I felt satisfied with my employment, until I decided to have a family of my own and with this expansion; I knew I had to further my education to meet the requirements to excel in my career. These life experiences changed my views on family, life, and education. Unfortunately, I was always unbalanced and unable to meet the educational needs that needed to be settled in my life. The three individuals that have influenced my life, and who have helped me become the person that I am today are my father, my uncle, and my wife. Their influence has greatly affected who I am and who I want to be. Urie Bronfenbrenner stated, “Ecological theory proposes that human development is best explained in terms of the interaction between individuals and the environments in which they live or have lived” (Witt & Mossler, 2010, p. 53). My father was a big influence, directing me to conduct myself as a man should. He instilled morals, beliefs, and responsibilities that helped me to look for the good in everyone...

The Past and Future of Competitive Advantage

...The Past and Future of Competitive Advantage By Clayton Christensen The author introduces to us that the concept of competitive advantage has inspired strategists in imitating the strategies of successful companies. However, the success of strategies is relative to the conditions of a particular place at a particular time— that not all strategies used by successful companies will work for others. Some companies that have economies of scale, integration and nonintegration, and process-based core competencies gain competitive advantage over others. For companies to gain competitive advantage, their strategies must not be modeled after those that have worked for others, rather, they must know the determinants as to which conditions those strategies would be able to give them competitive advantage. The concept of economies of scale is one wherein companies are able to cover fixed costs through broader scale of production. However, the problem of fixed costs are solved by managerial and technological progress. This leads to the dissolution of one’s competitive advantage through economies of scale. The concept of economies of scope is one in which firms are able to gain competitive advantage through diversification of product offerings. However, the author presents that focus strategies have become more efficient than diversification strategies. For a company to outsource a value-added activity, it must meet three conditions: (1) specify the needed attributes; (2) access to......

Past, Present, and Future of Jeeps

...The Past, Present, and Future of Jeeps Since the mid 40s, Jeeps have been improving their vehicles. Jeep has made improvements to make their vehicles to be more fuel efficient, use less metal, and also safer. This is an important part of keeping the Jeeps alive because if there are no improvements made to the Jeep, people would not continue to purchase them. Jeeps have been the backbone of America since they were first made. Jeeps have evolved in so many ways from the past to the present and are continuing to evolve into the future. The Cj’s series started back in the 40s, but the one Jeep covered in this paper will be the Cj-7. The Cj-7 came about in 1976 and roughly 379,000 were produced. This was the start of the Jeep that the public could actually use because it had better drivability and more space. The Cj-7 was just like the Cj-5 except the Cj-7 was extended to give more space. The drivability was improved by the addition of anti-swat bars. Another addition to the Cj-7 was a steering stabilizer allowing the Jeep to have a less probability to go into the death wobble. The death wobble is where the front tires whip back and forth making the driver lose control. Another option was the Quadra-Trac, which was an automatic four-wheel drive system. With this type of four-wheel drive system, it allowed for an automatic transmission. This was another way the Cj-7 was made to be more of a civilian vehicle. There were many different types of packages that the......

Leadership, Past, Present and Future

...Leadership: Past, Present, and Future Mostafa El Abd 20/03/2015 GMBA-EN-BF September 2014 Intake Leadership is significant in both social and organisational functioning. It has a broad meaning and has been defined in many ways over the centuries. Most leadership scholars agree that the term leadership can be described as an influencing procedure and its consequential outcomes which mainly occur between a leader and his or her followers, as well as how this process can be made clear by the leader’s dispositional behaviours and attributes, follower perception, and the framework in which this influencing process or method occurs. The term leadership is often paired with power and management but the definition of leadership should be kept different from both of these terms. Leadership research over the years can be classified into nine major schools starting from the 1900s till 2010s. They are: Trait, Behavioural, Contingency, Contextual, Skeptics, Relational, New leadership, Information-processing and Biological/Evolutionary. 1. Trait School of Leadership: This research started in the 20th century and suggests that specific dispositional attributes differentiate leaders from non-leaders or common people. 2. Behavioural School of Leadership: This school of research began in the 1950s and focused on the behavioural approach towards leadership. Meaning, behaviours that were enacted by the leaders and how they took care of their followers were the focus of this research. 3.......

My Past, Present and Future

...My Past, Present, and Future I never thought I would be 42 years old and writing a paper like this one. I had planned to go to college right after high school, but life does not always happen according to plan. In this paper, I will present a brief description of a few of my life experiences that have helped shape the person I am today and analyze some of these experiences using the adult development theories from this class. I will also look ahead to the goals I want to accomplish in the future. I grew up in a military family. Both my dad and my mother had enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after they graduated from high school, and they met when they were stationed at the same air base. As mom tells it, my dad asked her out on a date several times, but she always refused because she thought he was a little wild. However, Mom was an early-morning person, and Dad was a night owl. One evening, my mother was assigned to work the graveyard shift on a security detail, and she had trouble staying awake. Dad did her a favor by working her shift for her, so she thought she at least owed him one date. The rest, as they say, is history. My earliest childhood memories were of growing up on Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, as the oldest of five children. As the family grew, my mother left the Air Force, but my father continued in military service. My siblings and I are all about two years apart in age, and my childhood was fairly ordinary until I was about ten years old,......
