Some people think that hybridization, also called crossbreeding, is GMO, but there is a difference. Hybridization is taking two similar plants and pollinating them to create a new species, this process can take 6-10 generations. On the other hand, genetic modification is the process in which a DNA is forced into a plant or animal species that it doesn’t naturally belong to. A prime example of the GMO’s impact on the environment are the killer bees, some Brazilian scientists in the 50’s were trying to create a bee that would produce more honey. The scientists took the DNA from a European honey-bee and mixed it with that of an African bee this new species did create more honey.
