A Senate voting no on gun controls is it the people voting in wrong senator or is it lobby’s making the voting decision. Gabrielle Giffords former senator is calling to action the people because of voting senators voted no for background checks on gun buyers due to fear of lobbies such as the NRA. Gifford's defends her stance by providing her credibility with personal events and national tragedies that call us to action while also presenting personal emotion takes away credibility.
Following the article Giffords presents the issue that “Senators say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby” (Giffords, 2013), then brings up how the way the Sandy Hook victims feared for their life during the shooting and how the senate needs to vote yes on these …show more content…
She mentions how she was elected six times into the senate. She wants the senators to vote yes on this bill because its not a tough vote. Also telling of her personal experience in Tucson, Arizona where she was a victim of shooting and how she watches her co worker and friends get killed in front of her while suffering a shot to head. She seen first hand examples of why the senate should vote yes on these gun control bills.
Giffords article uses of ethos is backed with strong use of pathos. She brings up her feelings of sadness and anger. She touches on things such as mass shooting involving kids like sandy hook and backing up why we need to have a deeper background check because this killer was a mentally ill person that killed his mother along with her class of kids. Giffords also brought up her personal experience when she was shot in the head after a meet up in Tucson. Giffords provides examples that would make parents more emotional connect to what she is saying because they to want their kids to be safe. So Giffords is calling out the voters to show their frustration on the senators for voting no such as when she mention “I’m furious” (Giffords, 2013). Such comments like this make many readers understand she trying to appeal to pathos but really turns reader to think she less credible because she letting her emotion back her article then the
