Garret Augustus Morgan was an African-American inventor and businessman. He was born on March 4, 1877. He was the first person to pantent the traffic light. He also created the gas mask. Garret Morgan was born in Kentucky and was the son of former slaves. He was the 7th child of 11 children. His early education ended in elementary school.
At the age of 14 Garret Morgan moved to Cincinnati,Ohio to search for a job. Garret Morgan was able to get a job working as a handyman. In 1895, he moved to Clevleand and worked repaing sewing machines at a factory. Garret Morgan was married two times and with he second wife he had three sons. In 1907 he started his own sewing machine and shoe repair shop. In his sewing machine shop he hired 32 people who also used equipment Garret Morgan invented himself. A few years later he invented the gas mask and it was patented in 1912. Garret Morgans invention of the gas mask made him famous world wide.
In 1920 Garret Morgan started a newspaper business and bought a car. While driving he realized how unsafe the streets were and wanted to make them safer. In 1923 Gareet Morgan patented the traffic signal but was not the first to invent it. His trffic signal had three signs. One sign was red for “stop” , one sign was green for “go” and there was another red for everyone to stop in all directions so that people can cross the street. It was used around all of the United States. Morgan sold his traffic light ti General Electric for $40,000. His traffic signal was used until the three- light traffic signal was created.

Although the rest of society has rejected this person as a result of this behavior - in a restricted setting like prison - people begin to adapt to their surroundings. Inevitably, the longer one stays in this setting, the more institutionalized people become. Criminals will soon readily accept their status as a prisoner as well as establish a new identity within this community. In the film Shawshank Redemption, this is further explored as it follows several characters who spend a significant amount of time being incarcerated. I have adapted that quote into my life and how one should deal with adversity. But, I digress. What I am going to address has nothing to do with my life or how to overcome obstacles, but how that movie demonstrated a few of the concepts of classicism, particularly for the time period, and length of time, the movie was based upon. The themes and characters in the movie “Shawshank Redemption” represent the socio-economic climate of the time. The classicism displayed in the movie did not occur until our main character was several months, up to a year, into his term. As Red, played by Morgan Freeman, starts a friendly bond with Andy, played by Tim Robbins, you can see the symmetry between them. At first, the two seem to feel each other out, although Red is more the extravert to Andy’s introversive tactics. As time progresses, what starts off as business turns into life long friendship. Red is a simple, common sense driven individual whereas Andy has the upscale businessman persona with a higher than average scale of intelligence than many of his counterparts. When the two interact you can see the symmetry between them as street knowledge gives way to book smarts and vice versa. There is also a level of humanism that is outspoken in the scene when Andy locks the door to the warden’s office and plays “The Marriage of Figaro”...

While this literally brings more food to the table, it might not be worth it in the long run. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages that come with the industrialization of food. Using the chicken as an example. In the documentary, they explained that everyone loves white meat, therefor they make the chicken breast incredibly large to produce more meat from one animal. This is good in a sense that more food is being produced, but the truth is, it is changing, physiologically.
