Also, participants had to complete the cognitive load task while completing the gaze cueing task. Participants had to either count backwards by 7, which was the high cognitive load, or count forward by two, which was the low cognitive load. A specific number was given to them at the beginning and at the end of the trial they were asked what number they had counted up too. There were a few components that went into this experiment, but they did practice trials to make sure participants understood what was being asked of them. The results of this study show a few things. When it comes to comparing low and high cognitive load, the results showed a longer reaction time for high cognitive load than for low cognitive load. The results show a longer reaction time for angry faces than for neutral faces. Interestingly, reaction times were faster on trials with happy faces. Over all the effect of gaze cues indicates a faster reaction time with valid cues than angry faces. Valid cues would be when the probe is located in the direction that the eyes are gazing. For facial expressions with a valid cue reaction time was faster, but that was not the case for the neutral face. There is definitely a lot of information to analyze in the results for this experiment. …show more content…
Interestingly, both high and low cognitive loads resulted in smaller gaze cuing effects for neutral expressions. This shows that facial expressions do have an impact on gaze cues. The reaction is to the emotion despite cognitive control processes such as counting. The counting was supposed to reduce the emotional distractors for the participants. ...FOR BLYTHE Acknowledgments My profound thanks to three dear friends with whom I have the great luxury of working: my editor, Jason Kaufman; my agent, Heide Lange; and my counselor, Michael Rudell. In addition, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Doubleday, to my publishers around the world, and, of course, to my readers. This novel could not have been written without the generous assistance of countless individuals who shared their knowledge and expertise. To all of you, I extend my deep appreciation. To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering about in a great library without touching the books. The Secret Teachings of All Ages ———————————— FACT: In 1991, a document was locked in the safe of the director of the CIA. The document is still there today. Its cryptic text includes references to an ancient portal and an unknown location underground. The document also contains the phrase “It’s buried out there somewhere.” All organizations in this novel exist, including the Freemasons, the Invisible College, the Office of Security, the SMSC, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. All rituals, science, artwork, and monuments in this novel are real. ———————————— Prologue House of the Temple 8:33 P.M. The secret is how to die. Since the beginning of time, the secret had always been how to die. The thirty-four-year-old initiate gazed down at the human skull cradled in his palms. The skull was hollow, like...
