A Web-Based Repository with Web Forum for Undergraduates’ Final Year Projects in Higher Educational Institutions

...Abstract: A repository is a place where data are stored, eprints are located, multiple databases and files are located for distribution over a network. Final year project is one of the requirements for graduation for all undergraduate students. The existing method of keeping students’ final year project reports is manual. The hardcopy bound reports are stored on physically on shelves. This has some limitations which include sifting through the hardcopies to get relevant information and manually reading through the copies. The processes involved in completing these projects prove to be a tough mission. This paper attempts to develop a web-based repository for the use of undergraduate students embarking on final year projects. It also involves the design of a web forum to enhance collaborative students’ interaction. This is achieved by designing the system using Unified Modeling Language. The databases for both the repository and the web forum were created using MySql as the backend and Dreamweaver as the front-end. The system is a very good resource for getting information about the past undergraduate projects carried out by graduate students. Keywords: Repository, web forum, undergraduate students, final year projects, higher educational institutions 1. Introduction A repository can be defined as a central place where data is stored and maintained. It is a storage area that allows multi-user access to stored resources, when shared. Data in a repository...

Museum

...Dianne Ventura Professor Dunn Hum: 1025 John and Mable Ringling Museum As we drove up to the entrance of the John and Mable Ringling Museum, I was taken back for a moment. How could I have lived here in Tampa for seventeen years and never visit this place? I walked in and saw the grounds; this place was huge, well kept and full of history. My first stop was a stroll through Marble rose garden, it was beautiful , over one thousand-two hundred roses are planted in the garden the beautiful marble sculptures was placed in the right order, not overpowering the garden but just enough to accent the landscape. The stroll quiet relaxing, the cool air flowing through the trees, the sweet smell of morning dew on rose petal was the perfect way to begin the day. As my stroll ended I was told that the large tree surrounding the ground was much smaller, giving Mable a clear view of her garden from every room in her mansion. My next stop was the Museum of Art, what a beautiful exhibit. This was actually my favorite place in the entire museum. The first thing that captured my eye, was the twenty feet DAVID towing over the garden. Even though it was not the original, it was radiant. His poise and grace just over took the outdoor quarter. Viewing a sculpture in a text book and actually touching and seeing it in person is amazing. Remembering what I was taught in class; I started reviewing him carefully. Searching for all the characteristics was amazing. I was enjoying this and...

Kabir Das and Communcation

...it is the reflection of the age, which it belongs to. Literature of any age and era shows the prevalent trend of the period when it was created and connects at its best to that era. The uniqueness of the literature of Saint Kabir is that it transcends all boundaries and limitations of time and place. In spite of the fact that his literature belongs to the period of 15th century it is still relevant, remembered, quoted and discussed with passion and fervor not only among the connoisseurs of art and literature but also among common man and youth. This article is an attempt to throw light on the various dimensions of Kabir Das’s literature and how it is still effectively communicated and in turn is used for effective communication. This paper contemplates on the varied aspects of kabir’s literature. Kabir’s literature is known for elements of mysticism, spirituality, concept of love, his objectivity in imparting moral education, his attack on vices of human behavior, hypocrisy and materialistic attitude. All these aspects are dominantly reflected in his literary works and are still relevant in today’s social scenarios which are well communicated in the form of his well remembered ‘Dohas’ and poetry. Hence, it is concluded that Kabir’s literature, in spite of being so old and classical is timeless and well applicable and connected with today’s era. His ‘Dohas’ makes an integral part of our day to day communication. Hence, it can be said that, Kabir Das has communicated with...

Fortune 500 Companies Swot Analysis

...This article examines Appalachian folk medicine and considers the importance of utilizing an integrative theory, the Health Belief Model, to understand the use of alternative medicine in the United States. The author examines the need for social workers and other health care providers to further assess the roles of folk medicine in an Appalachian client population. The author creates linkages among the limited writings in the literature regarding folk medical practices of Appalachians and also draws examples of folk medicine usage from qualitative research and professional intervention with this client group. The author focuses on how mainstream health care professionals may assess the role of folk medicine in the lives of their clients by approaching folk medicine as a focal and culturally-imbedded component of their clients' overall health care. Moreover, the author addresses the need for health care professionals to become not only aware of folk medical practices, but to act as advocates for culturally competent health care within the larger health care delivery system which largely overlooks or downplays the significance of folk medicine. In an age of expensive and constricted mainstream health care services and the implementation of managed care, the author examines how folk medical practices factor into primary health care. PMID: 9418440 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] This article presents an approach to the evaluation of patient-held beliefs and behaviors that may...

Aerotropolis Project

...ABSTRACT Since 2000 Indian aviation industry has been recording steady growth. The role of the private airline sector has become very significant with the increase in domestic air traffic and the increased purchasing power of the growing middle-class. The arrival of LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) revolutionised Indian aviation industry and air travel hit an all-time-high. As more and more players arrived at the aviation scene the competition grew. Heavy price-cuts and discount offers against a background of rising operational costs proved detrimental, with almost every airliner reporting huge losses. The industry, taking cue from the global developments had moved towards consolidation of stakes so as to scale down excess competition. Many mergers and acquisitions took place which may result in significant synergies in the industry. This strategy to tie-up with the competitor rather than bleed millions by way of losses is seen as an exemplary move towards healthy competition. The opportunities as well as the challenges these mergers bring to the aviation industry is to be seen. This is about the air-side of the coin. And the land-side development mainly based on the revenue generated by the airport authorities. The study mainly goes through the landside development constituting the study of public private partnership in development of the airport city. This report mainly consists of the study of the industrial sector and how the development is sustained. Organization selected for...

Job Satisfaction

...EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Employees are the most important determinant and leading factor that determine the success of an organization in a competitive environment. This is especially true for service organizations that rely heavily on their good behavioural employees to provide friendly and courteous services to their customers in this competitive environment. Job satisfaction refers to “a collection of attitudes that workers have about their jobs”. These attitudes may derive from a facet of satisfaction or as an overall aspect of the job; however, the focus of the study is on job satisfaction in the most general term. It is very important to study whether employees are satisfied, because it is intuitively believed that workers who are more satisfied will likely exhibit more positive feelings, thoughts, and actions toward their job. Similarly, studying about whether employees are committed to the organization that they work for is important. By definition, organizational commitment refers to “an attitude that reflects the strength of the linkage between an employee and an organization” The purpose of this study is to analyse the job satisfaction. The study was conducted on Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel Kovalam. Employee’s productivity is largely related to their level of job satisfaction and in fact, the turnover rate can be reduced with a higher level of organizational commitment. Altogether, fifty employees were surveyed for the study. From the survey it is clear...
