When I learned the concept of gender difference, I was really interested to it. I read an article named “Pay gap still wide between men and women despite improvements”. This article was attracted to me because it started with an interesting sentence said by Mao Zedong, who is famous in China, ”Women hold up half of the sky”. I think the first time I heard this words was from television and I was very young at that time, but I still remember what was the first reaction came to my mind. Men are equal to women. However, I was confused all the time.
This article describes the reality that women still face an unfair treatment in the workplace, no matter their compensation, opportunities of promotion and career development. And the writher cites some statistic data to illustrate this issue. In addition, several examples are given in the article, such as the pregnant accountant Yang Jingfei.
The reasons that gender difference happening are because of several reasons, for example, their educational choices, career choices and life choices. For me, personally, I think men and woman will never be treated equally in China. First, throughout the history, we can rarely find dynasty that woman lead the country. Although, Wu Zetian, who was the only empress in Chinese history, she was recognized as the greatest woman, but she leave a blank stele when she was dead. She said “ let posterities to review my merits and demerits!”. We can derive that men lead the world is Chinese culture. Second, we cannot deny that woman have a nature role, when a woman choose to be a mother, it is impossible for her to take care both kids and work. On the other hand, her boss will not keep the position for the mother for about half a year, but if the company hires a man, this situation do not have to worried about.
