Part A Issue: People are demanding more mosquito repellent products Viewpoint of the author: Due to the fear of the Zika virus demands for mosquito repellent products are increasing.

Fears about the Zika virus, a disease believed to be carried by mosquitoes and linked to birth defects, is making for increased in demand sales for pest-control businesses and makers of Mosquito-Repellent Products. Zika virus was first discovered in the 1940 but there have been no signs of the virus in the western hemisphere until recently this spring. There have been no cases of anyone contracting this virus in the U.S. yet. Fear of this virus keeps growing as time goes by, because there have been many cares of this virus in tropical areas in South and Central America.

People are so afraid of this virus because it mainly spread primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito. The demand for insecticides has shot up after the detection of number of Zika cases. Demand for mosquito’s repellent products are usually low in February due to the wintery weather conditions. However, this isn’t your typical February because the demand for Invisaband went 400% so far this month.

The demand for this product is increasing so fast that the manufactures are beginning to worry. They have put in more orders from china already because they are running out of stock, but they wont be open for production until mid-February and can’t be delivered until march. The demand is so high that the manufactures planned on ordering double the amount they had originally planned. Another factor is that some bigger companies are also working on insuring that they don’t also run out of product in the near future.

High demand for Invisband has lead the company to plan on releasing new products, starting with a mosquito net. Due to the fact that Zika virus over 20 country Invisband is trying to create a portable model for international travels. Another company that has caught on to the Zika outbreak is laxness AG. They have realized how big of a problem Zika is becoming so the demand for repellents is increasing and they are also trying to profit off of it. The increased of the outbreak haves cause the demand for repellents to go up 50% this year, most of the demand are coming for Latin America.

Zika virus is such an epidemic that the worlds health organization declared an international public health emergency over it. Mosquito repellent products are so hard to get at times because they require a lot of packaging in order to protect the product and keep it from damage and contamination. Brian Thompson is a company general manager for invisaband and he predicts that the zika virus outbreak will continue to increase as spring rolls in, which will make the demand for repellents higher. The company’s strategy has been working for over a decade and they will continue to make bug repellent clothes in the future for everyday life.

Thompson also goes on to say that he doesn’t think the zika virus is ever going to go away but that we should start to raise awareness to it because it is a bug-borne disease. As the demand for these mosquito repellent increase the prices would soon start to increase as well. Prices are going to rises because as more people demand the product, suppliers are going to have to make more quality of this produce. This causes a supply curve. Price usually is a major determinant in the quantity supplied. Supply curve is the relationship between product price and quantity of product that a seller is willing and able to supply.

In conclusion, because the Zika virus the demand of mosquito’s repellent product would increase which would later result in price increase also.
