Their forces consisted of three armies and several Panzer tank divisions. They were the
15 th Army, the 7 th Army, General Sepp Dietrich’s 6 th Army, and the chief Panzer division was
General von Manteuffel’s 7 th Panzer division. An interesting component of the German’s army was that they used soldiers, who were fluent in English and knew American slang, and distributed them behind the Allied lines, equipped with American uniforms and Jeeps, in order to disrupt and confuse their enemies (Battle of the Bulge, History Learning Site).

The success of the German’s assault depended on three things. First, was they needed to quickly and concisely complete the operation. Their attack depended heavily on surprise and catching the Americans off guard. Second, as the Germans were dangerously low on fuel, they needed to capture Allied fueling stations so they could complete their campaign.
