Dr. Naismith, originally from Canada, had his roots in ministry before choosing to follow his true passion of physical education and it was through this that he found himself enrolled at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training School. The game originated as a way to handle a group of hostile youth during the physical education hour at the YMCA.
