Nationalism contributed to the unification of people into nation-states. Nation-state is a self governed political entity occupied by people who speak the same language and share a common history and culture. For instance, Germany and Italy are both nation-states. Otto Von Bismark used war to unify Germany. Otto Von Bismarck was prussia's blood-and-iron Chancellor. "The disputes must place the greatest possible way of blood and iron and the hands of the king of Prussia" (document 5). Bismarck explains the process for unification of Germany.
