...INTRODUCTION Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the flow of information between an individual or an organization and the public. Public relations may include an organization or individual gaining exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. The aim of public relations by a company often is to persuade the public, investors, partners, employees, and other stakeholders to maintain a certain point of view about it, its leadership, products, or of political decisions. Common activities include speaking at conferences, winning industry awards, working with the press, and employee communication. Public relations is thought by many to be propaganda by a different name, ironically, the very term "Public relations" could easily be seen as a public relations ploy to make the idea of propaganda more acceptable. Public Relations is similar to Analyst Relations, Investor Relations and Public Affairs depending on the firm, organization or population it represents. DEFINITIONS OF PUBLIC RELATIONS “Public Relations is the deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between on organization and its publics.” - Institute of Public Relations, USA “Public relations is the attempt by information persuasion and adjustment to engineer public support for an activity, cause, movement...

Upon successfully completing this course, you should be able to: 1) Speak the language – In your daily life, you have probably encountered many of the phenomena we will discuss in class. Guide to Product and Target Report

...Guide to Assessment 2 for MKC1200 Principles of Marketing     Due to space constraints, the Unit Outline contains the bare minimum of information needed for this assessment task, so I have put together a few notes here to guide you through. I hope it helps you and results in better quality assignments for us to mark and more rewarding results for you!   1.0 Format and style Basically, you are writing a report on some marketing issues. Make sure you use a consecutive numbering system throughout the report, and an appropriate heading/sub heading for each section – probably somewhat as I am doing in this paper.   Your assignment must be submitted in Times New Roman size 12 pitch with 1.5 spacing. Any smaller and it’s very tiring to read after about 25 papers; and with single spacing there isn’t any room for feedback.   Remember not to use any personal pronouns: we, us, I, our, your and so on. This is a formal paper and must be written in the third person. Please don’t use slang, either. Sometimes I see phrases such as ‘heaps of…’, and ‘a great idea…’ - this informal style of writing is OK when you’re writing to your friends, or when we’re having an informal conversation, but doesn’t belong in an academic paper that you submit for assessment. Use marketing language wherever you can – think in terms of the core concepts. Abbreviations are also inappropriate in a formal document: hasn’t, doesn’t, won’t, can’t, ad, advert, advt’g. Remember to give words their...

Effects of College Education and Experience on Police Promotional Processes

...Effects of College Education and Experience on Police Promotional Processes Abstract The vast majority of police agencies nationwide, including the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, now believe that college education is critical in their selection of lieutenants and sergeants. However, police agencies have acknowledged their desire to recognize education with promotional processes that award college education with an arbitrary point system which assigns a specific amount of points for different levels of education. The only known way for a police agency to be sure that these education points are meeting their goal of appropriately rewarding college education, is to first determine the effects of education on the scores and final rankings of their eligibility lists. Experience, often referred to as seniority, is treated in much the same way as college education and necessitates the same level of analysis. This research analyzes data from the 2012 Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Promotional Processes for both lieutenants and sergeants to arrive at conclusions about the effects of both college education and seniority on the promotional processes and makes specific recommendations which are sure to be of value to PBSO in the future. The basic tenants of this research can be duplicated by any law enforcement agency with a desire to appropriately recognize advanced education and seniority in their promotion of middle and lower level police leaders.
