Giovanni da Verrazzano was an Italian explorer who explored the Atlantic Coast of North America. Giovanni da Verrazzano was born near Val di Greve, the year of 1485. His parents are Piero Andrea di Bernardo da Verrazzano, and Fiammetta Cappelli. Giovanni da Verrazzano had one sibling which is Girolamo da Verrazzano. As a young boy, Giovanni Da Verrazzano studied in Florence, Italy, and was well-educated and excelled in math. Around 1506 Giovanni da Verrazzano began pursuing his maritime career. Giovanni also discovered New York Harbor, in 1528, which now has a bridge spanning it named after Giovanni da Verrazzano. Between 1507 and 1508 Verrazzano went to France. While he was in France, he met King Francis I. King Francis I, of France, soon became his sponsor. And Verrazzano would explore and be in the service of him. King Francis I sent Giovanni to explore the East coast of North America to find another route to the pacific. Giovanni da Verrazzano was introduced to exploration and adventure at a young age. As Giovanni Da Verrazzano traveled up the coast, he had a lot of contact with the Native American Tribes of that region. In 1527, Giovanni landed in Brazil to collect a shipment of logwood and then returned to France. In 1528, Giovanni da Verrazzano took three ships and sailed to Florida before he headed south in search of a route to China.
