Today. Today I will be spectating the gladiator take down several. It’s warm outside, but as I walk into the Colosseum the air grows thinner, colder, and more intense. You look up to see the intricate arches, and many seats for people to view. You can see where the many feet have shuffled and you can almost see the breaths, still, from witnessing the slaughter that everyone comes to see for a good show. You see the blank expressions on people’s faces, anxiously awaiting the fight.
The show is about to begin.
It’s growing colder, almost to the point of shivering. But I already have goose-bumps. And a stomach ache. I’m not looking very forward to what I am about to see. But this is how it is here, in Rome. There’s no escaping. I just have to make it look like I’m interested so I don’t become that man, down there, about to get slaughtered, handed to almighty gladiator on a silver platter. I, of all people don’t want that. The men down there would do anything for this place, you can see it in their eyes. They don’t want to die but they know it is the right thing to do. There’s some birds flying ahead. I wonder if they know what’s going on, maybe they came to grab a seat and watch. Probably not.
Here we go. The gladiator slashes right, left, right again, then tricks the defenseless and takes another right. One down, four to go. Right, left, right, down. Another one down, then another. One more. This one, it almost looks like he’s trying to dodge, as if he doesn’t understand he has no chance. Maybe he has a chan- Nope. He’s dead, gone. Just like that. The killer doesn’t realize what he’s done, at all. It doesn’t even phase him.
Everyone claps, screams, shrieks in excitement. Then they all flood out.
It’s crazy, this is every day. I guess I’ll be back here again tomorrow.
