Global Environments in Accounting
Yum! Brands, Inc. is a worldwide food service company with over 40,000 restaurants in 125 countries. According to Yum! Brands financial statements the company has been profitable over the last two years. They have been able to this by lower the costs of food production. According to the Yum! Brands website over 70% of their revenue comes from outside the United States. Most of this expansion has occurred in developing markets were they have over 14,000 restaurants, which is nearly double of the nearest competitor. Yum! Brands has been able to position themselves for growth and would be a wise investment due to their long term growth potential. When reviewing data from the financial statements specifically we can see potential in the current ratio and the debt to worth ratios over the last two quarters. Yum brands current ratio for first quarter 2014 stands at 0.84 showing that the companies relative liquidity can handle the majority of their liabilities immediately. When compared to the last quarter of 2013 which stood at 0.75 we can see that liquidity rose by nearly 10 percent. Solvency is also a concern when reviewing possible investments and Yum brands finished the fourth quarter of 2013 with a 74% debt to worth ratio fell to 73% exhibiting growth in shareholder equity.
Yum! Brands Debt Security
A debt security, also known as fixed income securities, are any debt instrument that is sold or bought between two separate parties and has basic terms that are defined ("Debt," 2014). Terms that are defined are amount borrowed (notional amount), maturity/renewal date, and interest rate (“Debt,” 2014). CD’s, government bonds, municipal bonds, corporate bonds, zero-coupon securities, collateralized securities (such as CMO’s, CDO’s, and

Contemporary Management in Bhp

...suggestion of which accounting technique should to be integrated into BHP Billiton’s contemporary management accounting system. Through in depth research this technique has been identified as the environmental management accounting technique. This result was achieved through the research of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis and the identification of the critical success factors. A balanced score card was then created using the information gathered to be used in identifying the most relevant technique. EMA was the technique decided upon as compared to the other techniques as it is the most relevant to BHP Billiton as their industry deals day to day with the environment and society. It will create awareness for the harm that is being done to the environment and will encourage them to create the minimum damage to the earth. It will also assess any repercussions of their actions that may affect society and bring harm to people. By integrating the EMA technique, it will help the organisation to collect the most relevant information to their situation and will assist in the planning, controlling and decision making within that organisation. This will improve the organisations strategy in which to help preserve the environment and also affect their financial state positively. TABLE OF CONTENTS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 3 TABLE OF CONTENTS 3 1. ...Week 2: This week talked about the accounting environment in Australia. At the beginning of the lecture, we were asked to complete a questionnaire. The questionnaire contained the definitions of accounting terms.    Introduction to course outline, trying to understand how it relates to accounting degree as a whole. The way to develop an understanding is to focus on the suitability of current accounting practices and how to develop improved accounting practices where current practices are unsuitable for changing business circumstances. This allows me to look at the course as a whole. Team formation with group of 4 led to some problems as two members had a personality clash and had a fight about the first task which included choosing photos out of a magazine that represented accounting. The group worked the problem out however it just shows the pros and cons of team work as sometimes personalities that clash each other may erase any benefits of team work. The vital issue this week is why regulation is needed and I hope to reflect about this in the weeks to come Other issues is who regulates and why one framework has begun to dominate world wide  Why were certain regulations introduced such as “Intangible assets” Not reliable or timely, can’t be measured accurately. Problem is it undervalues organisation. Found the topic beneficial as a whole Week 3: Watched the movie “Company Men”, which reflects the operation of a financial company during the global financial crisis...
