V.NILALAMAN/PAGSUSURI

A.BUOD
Ten years ago ibinaba ang martial law setyembre 21 1982.

VI-Panunuring pampanitikan
A.Panglingwistika

IX-Talasalitaan

A.Talasalitaan1. Piyudal
2. Burgis
– dahil na rin sa kawalang-katiyakan ay naisip kong sumangguni sa internet at ito ang aking nakitakong pinakamatinong sagot – “burgis is actually bourgeois in English just spelled as it is pronounced Pinoyway. The meaning is the same (associated with affluent middle-class people, who are often characterized asconventional, conservative or materialistic in outlook).” Gets na?
3. Pananaw-Victorian
7. Communist Party of the Philippines –

Glory Road

...The movie glory road is a stunning mix of sports and civil rights that has become one of Americas favorite sports movies- an instant classic. I personally have seen glory road three times and everytime it gets better and better. The move is about a small el-paso based NCAA division-1 basketball team called the miners. The coach was drafted to coach the miners, who at the time sucked. Nobody had ever heard of them, but they soon would This new coach who previously had coached nothing but women's basketball, scoured the US for great players, but he did so in a way that didn't pay respect to discrimination or skin color. The result was a team of negro players in the heart of the deep south.= This deeply divided culture was new to the blacks, and not only did they realize that the 7 y would have to beat the best division-1 teams in the nation, they would also have to face discriminatory violence on and off the court. T The team eventually won the NCAA tournament, but not before they went through aloft of pain and suffering. I like the movie because it showed the intimate details of the emotional and physical attachment the blacks on the team felt. I like the movie because of the picture quality and how it was shot, the color grading adds a certain realness to the movie! The movie captures very well the discrimination the team faced while playing on and off the court. When that one guy got a swirlie and a bloody nose that was one of my favorite parts; not because I support what...

...Book Review After getting this assignment I was in a little panic because I had no idea what I wanted to do. Doing a reaction paper to a movie that deals with diversity/race is not something I do everyday, but I decided to buckle down and get it done. There are tons of movies that deal with diversity, but a lot of those movies aren’t movies I’m interested in, this made my decision a lot harder. While looking through my movie collection I came across a few movies that fit the assignment description, Guess Whose Coming to Dinner, Glory Road, Guess Who, Remember the Titans, The Great Debaters, etc. After finding all these movies I decided I wanted to do something that deals with something I can closely relate to, after some great thought I went with the Disney movie, Glory Road. Glory Road is a movie that is based on a true story that happened at the University of Texas El Paso in 1966. It addresses the events that the players and coaches faced during this time period due to racism. Once a girl’s high school basketball coach, Don Haskins was recruited by UTEP to be the head coach of the men’s basketball program. At the time of taking the job, Coach Haskins had no idea what he got himself in to. He walked himself into a program with a non-existent recruiting budget. With no money to recruit Coach Haskins was not able to attract the more popular and well-known white player to UTEP. Not willing to give up on his winning tendencies he decides to change it up by recruiting African...

Glory Road

...Chris Oseitutu 4/27/2015 JRN 180 J. Stockwell Glory Road One of the biggest issues in the movie “V for Vendetta” was the theme of revenge. This emotion of revenge was the reason and motivation for everything that V, the main character, did. There were certain ways that V used revenge to get back at the government. He executed this revenge through death, destruction of materialistic things (like the tower), and by exposing the government of what they were doing. Without this desire for vengeance, V would not have felt powerful enough or bold enough to go to the extremes that he did to expose the government. Not only was vengeance the most evident theme in the movie, but it also played as the motive and drive for every action of V’s. V had excellent reason within his desire for revenge. V was part of a group of four dozen prisoners that were used for a medical experiment by the government in which he was the only survivor. The medical experiments served to find a cure from a bioterrorist attack killing 100,000 people. Upon these experiments, each prisoner was injected with a compound called “Batch 5” which caused several cellular abnormalities that killed every prisoner except V. This found cure was part of NorseFire’s plot to gain complete fascist power over the country after election, and transform into a totalitarian government without the people knowing. Angered by the deceitful dictatorship ruling England, V sought to expose the government...

...Cariñosa Cariñosa (Spanish pronunciation: [kaɾiˈɲosa], meaning the loving or affectionate one) is a Philippine dance of Hispanic origin from the Maria Clara suite of Philippine folk dances, where the fan or handkerchief plays an instrumental role as it places the couple in romance scenario. History and Emergence The dance originated in Panay Island in the Visayan Islands and was introduced by the Spaniards during their colonization of the Philippines. It is related to some of the Spanish dances like the bolero and the Mexican dance Jarabe Tapatio or the Mexican Hat Dance. Bicolano Cariñosa According to the book of Francisca Reyes-Aquino, Philippine Folk Dances, Volume 2, there is a different version of the dance in the region of Bicol. In the Bicol Region Carinosa, hide and seek movement is different. In the original version, the dancers used the Fan and handkerchief as the way to do the hide and seek movement, in Bicol they used two handkerchiefs holding the two corners of the handkerchief and doing the hide and seek movement as they point their foot forward and their hands go upward together with their handkerchiefs following the movement. It is a complicated step however it is still used in Bicol Region region during festivals and social gatherings. Costume Originally, the Cariñosa was danced with Maria Clara dress and Barong Tagalog for it is a Maria Clara Spanish Dance when it was introduced. However as the Filipino people saw and imitated this dance, they wore the...

Glory

...Glory Soc 150 11/20/13 The 1989 film Glory is a classic Civil War film based on the history of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment. The film focuses on the courage displayed by the first black regiment in the Civil War, also known as the “Fighting Fifty-fourth.” The regiment headed by the admirable Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Matthew Broderick, must overcome an enormous amount of adversity during the war. The film was daring for filmmakers Zwick and Fields because it was a film not only with, “vivid and frightening battle scenes and finely etched dramatic characters, but a film that shattered the great Civil War taboo-it told a story of African Americans. Many articles and texts leading up to the film failed to mention the participation of African Americans in the Civil War. In fact, the participation of African Americans helped turn the course of the war and nearly 300,000 fought for the North. Glory earned an impressive three Academy Awards due to its exceptionally talented cast and arguably some of the most realistic and memorable Civil War reenactments ever shot. The soundtrack, cinematography, and acting captivated my attention with a combination of triumph and tragedy. These men were fighting to free their very own race which adds to the emotion and sentiment this movie invokes. Zwick effectively builds the characters of the 54th regiment by portraying the grueling months of training and development. One prominent example of this is in the end of their movie...

Paths of Glory and Glory

...“Glory” & “Paths of Glory” Film History Justice Dominique October 7, 2014 In "Paths of Glory" war is observed in positions of command. This film about an accurate affair in World War I mingles the idea that status differentiations are more significant than nationwide differences with the way soldiers were viewed or treated as dispensable in combat of war, the philosophy that soldiers are simply ragdolls in the paws of generals who put on a production of what war is if it were just a mere game, and meant absolutely nothing. In the whole film, it seems that the only upper class officer who even cared about his men was Col. Dax, who even spoke for the three men that were about to be put to death, for no reason at all. In “Glory” Captain Robert Shaw, 23, was an officer in the Federal Army throughout the American Civil War who came forward to lead the first establishment of colored soldiers. Shaw was compelled to go through with the prejudices of both the rival (who had commands to execute commanding captains of the new colored recruits) and of other officers who were even on the same side as himself (when the blacks were not allowed to fight or even own a pair of shoes), until Shaw, once again, stepped up. To prove his recruits had what it took to fight, Shaw sacrificed the 54th regiment to lead the charge on the impenetrable Battery Wagner, located on Morris Island. The characteristics of war are seen in moth of these films. In “Paths of Glory,” the common enemy...

Stereotypes In The Movie Glory

...When watching a movie like Glory I tend to treat it like every other movie that is made for public consumption.Yes, there may be some historically accurate parts to the individual film, but that doesn't remove the fact that it was created to earn a profit. This means that not everything will be one hundred percent factual, or that certain characters will be portrayed in a manner befitting how they truely were. The most prevelant case of this occuring in the film was the portrayal of the black soldiers that were in the 54th Regiment. These soldiers were not only given false names in this film, but they were also portrayed in a way that promoted inacurate stereotypes. One of the stereotypes that was presented in the film was a scene in which...

Sergeant Major Mulcahy is brought into the unit to teach the men discipline and makes them train for hours on end. COL. Shaw sees the amount of work that these men have done and convinces his commanders with blackmail that his men should be transferred to a combat unit to be given the chance to prove themselves. When their transfer was finally approved, they are tested with their first major battle to go through, at James Island in Charleston, South Carolina. Since Shaw was in command of mostly African American’s, his soldiers were heavily mocked and tormented by the white Union Soldiers; however after the battle of James Island, the white Union soldiers gave them the respect that any other soldier would receive. Summary Of The Film Glory

...The movie Glory tells the story of the forming of the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, which was constructed entirely of African American soldiers and commanded by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. The regiment included different men of different backgrounds. Some of the soldiers were free men of the North, some were escaped slaves, and some were even businessmen. The 54th, as it was referred to, was a prime example and proof that was contrary to the belief that black men were unfit to be in the armed forces. It proved that they could make excellent soldiers and be disciplined enough to answer to authority under fire, which was a very unpopular opinion at the time. The film takes the audience through the beginning stages of teaching the men how to march, learning their...

Your First Day on Your First Job

...the forceful sound of my mother’s voice. She was happy for me, and wanted to ensure that I had a good start before beginning the workday. By 7:00 a.m., I was fully dressed in my long sleeve blue pant suit, paired with a florescent blouse and accessorized with my black shoes and brown leather bag. I kissed my mom goodbye and waited outside the house on the verandah for the sound of the blaring horn from the hired bus to take us to the workplace, a full seventeen miles from home. For the most part, the journey from St. Andrew’s to the parish of St. George’s was a smooth and uneventful ride. I travelled through the main winding mountainous road which took me through the rain forest, with its luscious pine trees. With the windows open, the fresh morning breeze smoothly bathed my face, giving it a refreshing feeling. The scent of the morning glory flowers filled the air with a sweet fragrance, almost like I was seated in a garden not a mini bus. The sound of the inspirational music filled the space in the fully packed bus greeted the air, thus making for a prayerful and reflective morning journey. As I sat there, I felt fully energized and uplifted for the day’s work ahead. The journey ended in the crowded bus...

The Supervisor`S Role in Context

...THE SUPERVISOR`S ROLE IN CONTEXT Question 1 In your self- assessment if the competencies and skills required of a supervisor, completed on the workshop, you identified various strengths and development areas. Select any one of the development areas and share how you have attempted to improve on this development area. Use specific example(s) to support your answer. One of the problematic areas which I identified where further development is required was planning and organizing. I have currently been experiencing a huge backlog in the various functions in my department. I have been struggling to plan my functions and that of my staff due to constant absenteeism, underperformance and training of new staff which we employed in my department and an existing backlog. The first step in attempting to resolve this problem was to have daily meetings with my manager, where I would provide him with feedback on the progress of the department and to discuss a plan of action to combat the backlog, and to get as much advise and guidance from him. I presented any suggestions that I received during the meeting, with my staff and encouraged my staff to give me feedback on how we can manage the functions more efficiently, especially the critical functions. A suggestion that I came up with was to draw up a timetable and allocate various functions to various timeslots- where the most critical functions would be allocated the most hours. I have struggled to implement this due to certain staff...

Beethoven American Romanticism

...Take a drive. Take a drive about five miles south of the small town of Rolla, Missouri. Just past the Snake River Bridge you'll see a dirt road on the right with an old rusted, red street sign that reads "Route 4." Take this right and follow the winding rural road up the steep grades of the Ozark Mountains until you reach a small, modest farm at the top of the first ridge. This was my home when I was ten years old. Inside the walls of my family's log cabin was a life wrought with staunch rules and religious observations. On the outside, amidst the sheep and the fields, in the secrecy and mystery of the surrounding mountain woods, was my world of freedom and imagination. Every summer was the same. I would wake early with the sun, and bound for...
