...1 Week 3 Case Study The Forgotten Group Member Janail Richard-Brown 8565 W Sam Houston PKWY S Houston, Texas 770?? Jrich_26@yahoo.com 713-988-1038 GM 591 Leadership Organizational Behavior Kim Nugent January 23, 2012 Group Development As of right now, the group is somewhere between norming and performing-this stage is actually called storming. My reason for using the two stages is that one group member is still not performing up to standard (Mike). I find that this has occurred and been encountered quite often in my experience at DeVry. Most members will be onboard and one will just do the lease amount of work necessary to pacify other members. Christine having and understanding of the stages of group development would better suit her in two ways. First she would be aware of how the group is functioning and the dynamics of a group activity. Then secondly, she would see that Mike was not falling under any of the developmental practices in the stages. Also, I think it would give her a better idea on how to obtain Mike’s full efforts on the assignment. Problem Identification Christine is first facing the lack of participation by one of the group’s members. Secondly the group is at a critical point because the assignment is nearing a close. Christine needs to understand how to motivate each member to be the best at giving a total effort to the assignment. People are a very delicate lot. She needs to have each member perform at a high standard and at the same time...

Medtronic was co-founded by Earl Bakken over forty years ago. With many people praising his products he wanted that to be company’s purpose. Many people regained their mobility, feel better, and ever felt that time was added to their lives. These comments lead to the company’s mission of: “…alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. (Medtronic, 2010) This mission remains the focal point of every employee to this day. Mr. Bakken frequents the company yearly. ...DeVry University: Continuous Improvement GM 591: Leadership & Organizational Behavior Professor Greer 8/19/2011 Introduction: DeVry University is one of the largest private, for profit, universities. They offer an extensive variety of Associates, Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Students have the option of studying in business, technology, healthcare, criminal justice, communications and several other areas. The University received its name from the founder, Herman DeVry. We have been established for over 80 years now, first opening the doors in 1931. In the beginning DeVry actually spearheaded vocational training by sending manuals to soldiers that were away at war. From their humble beginnings, DeVry has evolved into a full fledged University across the United States with over 90 locations. There are a couple different options for DeVry students when choosing between a campus or center. Several larger campuses across the country, located in a few of the largest metros, include dorms, extensive labs, libraries, and a cafeteria. The smaller centers offer several of the same amenities of the larger campuses but in a more condensed area. The centers have plenty of classrooms, labs, and computers for all the students, but because of the lack of square footage, more often than not you won't find a library or dorms at a center. After our last graduation we have surpassed 250,000 alumni and over 10,000 employees; we are looking to add a lot more in the upcoming...

...GM 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Project Proposal Overview of Organization My final project paper will focus on the company SuperMedia LLC, (SuperMedia) which is a publically traded company headquartered in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. According to its corporate website, "SuperMedia serves as the advertising agency for small to medium sized businesses with a variety of advertising solutions". The solutions fall into three categories which include online advertising, direct mail and the yellow pages. With advertising solutions becoming more digitized and cost effective, SuperMedia (formally Idearc Media) found itself in a position where it had to quickly adapt to the new ways in which business were advertising. Unfortunately, this meant the company had to cut corners in the process without much due diligence and eventually lead to creating a sales environment that resulted in a reduction in sales and a high turnover of personnel in the sales department. As a sales representative within the company I have seen how sales managers within the department have taken a "win at all cost" attitude when dealing with members on their sales team. I have seen the practices of how deals were passed on to some members of the team who were already close to achieving sales quotas while others suffered - eventually losing their jobs - because they had not met their monthly quotas enough to stay with the company. Preliminary Problem Statement SuperMedia was late...

...25 Manners Every Kid Should Know By Age 9 Manner #1; When asking for something, say "Please." Manner #2; When receiving something, say "Thank you." Manner #3; Do not interrupt grown-ups who are speaking with each other unless there is an emergency. They will notice you and respond when they are finished talking. Manner #4; If you do need to get somebody's attention right away, the phrase "excuse me" is the most polite way for you to enter the conversation. Manner #5; When you have any doubt about doing something, ask permission first. It can save you from many hours of grief later. Manner #6; The world is not interested in what you dislike. Keep negative opinions to yourself, or between you and your friends, and out of earshot of adults. Manner #7; Do not comment on other people's physical characteristics unless, of course, it's to compliment them, which is always welcome. Manner #8; When people ask you how you are, tell them and then ask them how they are. Manner #9; When you have spent time at your friend's house, remember to thank his or her parents for having you over and for the good time you had. Manner #10; Knock on closed doors -- and wait to see if there's a response -- before entering. Manner #11; When you make a phone call, introduce yourself first and then ask if you can speak with the person you are calling. Gm 591 Case Study 1

...In order to have a fully effective team it is very important to understand the stages of development of a team. The five stages of team development are forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. The forming stage is the initial entry or the meet and greet of the team members. Some may also call this the “polite stage” because members seem to be very pleasant and want to make a good first impression. Members are interested in getting to know each other and discover what is considered acceptable behavior, and what role they will play on the team. In this stage you can really see the excitement and anticipation based on the fact that everything is new. The next stage is the storming stage which I feel is the most important of all the five stages. The honeymoon is over. In this stage emotions and tensions are high among the group members. People have revealed their true colors; who they really are and their worth to the team. Disagreements occur along with the formation of cliques or partners within the team that want to impose their preferences on the entire group. Coupled with demands of premature performance expectations and the before mentioned emotions a hostile environment can be created. It is very critical that management needs to do a lot of coaching to get people to work past their differences. The team has moved into the norming stage when the members really start to come together as a coordinated unit. The experiences that they have had during...

Indian Small Car Industry

...A CASE STUDY ON THE INDIAN SMALL CAR INDUSTRY Prof. Tapan Panda A Case Study on the Indian Small Car Industry A BRIEF OVERVIEW ON THE INDIAN SMALL CAR INDUSTRY If there is one big market that is forcing the global auto majors to think small, it is India. Until yesterday, all the world's auto-manufacturers expected to create success out of their midsize products. There were as many as five players in the mid car segment and just one--the Rs 7,956-crore Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL)--in the small car segment. Suddenly Daewoo Motors India and Hyundai Motors India--are changing lanes midway, making the small car market as the pivot of their marketing strategy in India. Couple that with the fact that two domestic manufacturers--the Rs 10,074-crore Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co. (TELCO) and the Rs 223-crore Kinetic Engineering--are ready with similar indigenously-designed products to compete in this market The last two years has really been the period of war in the small car market The story Behind…. The auto majors read the market wrong. Since the small segment was dominated by MULwith a market share of 96 per cent and given that the Trans –national brands already had tried-and-tested mid-size models in Indian market, this segment was more attractive than the existing ones. This perceptual change was because of two reasons. • • The clutter in the large and midsize segment due to entry of many international players. The small segment grew faster than the mid-size one, driven...

Workplace Difficulties

...Women face greater challenges at the workplace. Do you agree or disagree? Write an essay, giving reasons to support your viewpoint. A photograph recently caught my attention. It was a mother carrying her 18 month old daughter in one hand and a document in the other. What’s special about it? She is a member of the European Parliament, Licia Ronzulli, and this photograph was taken when she was addressing the parliament. This epitomizes modern motherhood, and takes multitasking to new dimensions. Just stringing together the two words “women” and “workplace” automatically conjures the third word in our mind- “Challenge”. But as work places are constantly evolving, what one perceives as a challenge is indeed changing. A few decades ago nurse , receptionist or secretary was all a working woman could aspire to be. Any woman who dreamed beyond was ridiculed and her integrity was questioned. Corporates viewed women as weaker and less committed than male counterparts. “Lady Candidates Need Not Apply”- was the common last line in job advertisements. Those 5 words in a ‘TELCO’ advertisement sparked Sudha Murthy to send the famous postcard to JRD Tata in 1974 saying “I am surprised how a company such as Telco is discriminating on the basis of gender”. When I first walked through TML factory, I wondered how Sudha would have felt 37 years before, knowing that hers were the first feminine footsteps there. Did she possibly know then that she had taken a giant leap for her kind in TELCO...

...Global Expansion Strategies of Two Korean Carmakers- Case Analysis B6110: Supply Chain Optimization and Outsourcing January 27, 2012 Two Korean Carmakers- Strategic Situations Daewoo and Hyundai are two Korean carmakers who enjoy many structural similarities. Yet the two are direct competitors in the Korean automobile industry, where they are jostling for position, pushing for economies of scale, and hoping to sure up a competitive advantage. Both Daewoo and Hyundai look to international expansion as their recipe for success. Each has formulated a specific expansion strategy in the past based on its particular market situation. Both Daewoo and Hyundai now look to international global expansion for future success. Expansion & Supply Chain The direct competition with each other in the Korean car market had an enormous influence on each firm’s past globalization strategies. The Korean automobile industry has been dominated by Hyundai since the 1970’s. By 1993, Hyundai had established a 50% market share in the Korean market, whereas Daewoo only held 20% (Bowon, 2005, p. 148). In 1993, Hyundai also enjoyed 58% of the market share of automobile exports by Korean companies, whereas Daewoo’s exporting efforts had failed (Bowon, 2005, p. 148). Moving forward from 1993, Daewoo and Hyundai took into account their competitive position against each other when deciding how to conduct their global expansion strategy. “Daewoo focused on expeditiously achieving...
