Relate this information to the following statement: “Through international specialization and trade, a nation can reduce its opportunity cost of obtaining goods and thus ‘move outside its production possibilities curve.’”
Without international specialization and trade to produce one additional unit of robot, the economy must forgo 10000 pizzas, which will reduce the opportunity cost of an industrial robot.
However, with the international trade, it is able to get one industrial robot, in exchange for 9000 pizzas. This too would result in a reduction of opportunity cost but the economy can move outside its production possibilities curve.

Metal Fest

...Jade Macias English 1 09/16/13 Enjoying and having fun in life is important for the soul to be happy. There’s craziness everywhere you visit, but when you put yourself into a show where you need to have an open mind, to understand, fun and get the full experience, you must go in with an open mind. My first metal show took place on a cool breeze evening traffic on the sunset strip was like any other day. I found myself and others in the car rushing to get to the venue. The sun was setting in the horizon, and the evening was getting fill with excitement. The summer breeze became still and the sky was a pale blue, lots of cars where passing through the sunset boulevard. I had gone to the liquor store nearby to purchase a small bottle of whiskey, to ease the nerves a little. We had stop by one of the buildings to sit down and talk and drink. When I got to the line to wait to enter the whisky a-go-go, as the band was passing by, they videotape us so that we could be on their media network. Alex introduced me to his friends and was told by him that we all stay within the group and look after one another. My attire consisted of high top tennis shoes, band shirts, and skinny black jeans, lose curly hair, the longer the better. Everyone is either wearing the same attire; some have leather jackets, boots, or flannels shirts wrap around the waist. I personally felt self-conscious of how I looked and if I was going to be accepted by the crowd. All you have to do is know the history...

Should We Go Beyond the Law

...we can assume that the company’s expenses before and too high due to some environmental regulations that they need to follow. 4. Development of Alternatives The company can stick to the initial plan which is to throw their waste into the river in order to survive in their financial crisis. The company can still pursue the number one alternative and at the same time they should develop a product later on which will be an alternative of not throwing their waste into the river and later on do a campaign on how they can revive the river. Since the cause of its pollution came from the company. . 5. Selection of Desired Alternative The company can go to the second alternative, since a lot of employees will lose their jobs if the company will not survive as a short-term solution they can pursue the idea of throwing the company waste into the river. Of course, the action of the company is not good per se but we need to give importance as well to the big number of...

Go Variatns

...variants[edit] The difficulty in defining the rules of Go has led to the creation of many subtly different rulesets. They vary in areas like scoring method, ko, suicide, handicap placement, and how neutral points are dealt with at the end. These differences are usually small enough to maintain the character and strategy of the game, and are typically not considered variants. Different rulesets are explained in Rules of Go. In some of the examples below, the effects of rule differences on actual play are minor, but the tactical consequences are substantial. Tibetan Go[edit] The starting position for Tibetan Go Tibetan Go is played on a 17×17 board, and starts with six stones (called Bo) from each color placed on the third line as shown. White makes the first move.[1] There is a unique ko rule: a stone may not be played at an intersection where the opponent has just removed a stone. This ko rule is so different from other major rulesets that it alone significantly changes the character of the game. For instance, snapbacks must be delayed by at least one move, allowing an opponent the chance to create life. Finally, a player who occupies or surrounds all four corner points (the 1-1 points) receives a bonus of 40 points, and if he controls the center point also, he receives a further bonus of 10 points. Sunjang Baduk[edit] Main article: Sunjang baduk The starting position for Sunjang Baduk Sunjang baduk is a different form of Go (baduk) that evolved in Korea. It has been played...

Fairness Is Good Management

...FAIRNESS IS GOOD MANAGEMENT Fairness is just good management. We already know that if you want to be a good manager you have to be fair to all. But what does that mean? And how can you be fair more often to more people? What Does Fairness Mean? It is part of the quirkiness of the English language that fair means according to the relative merits of each or consistent with rules and logic. However, it also means moderately good or satisfactory. So a fair manager can mean either one who treats others fairly or one who is only moderately good as a manager. Our goal is the first meaning. Why Is Fairness Good Management? When asked, a group of almost 2200 people reported fairness as the most important trait of a boss for who whom they would want to work. When you treat your employees fairly they spend less time worrying about who else is getting an unfair share. They don't spend a lot of time looking for ways to increase their own share. They spend less time looking for another job. And they spend more time working for you and getting more done. When you treat others fairly two things happen. Your own employees notice and respect you for it. It reinforces their belief that you are treating them fairly and will continue to do so. Second, the other people who you treat fairly will respond in kind. You will get better cooperation from them. That makes your job and the job of your employees easier too. How To Be A Fair Manager A good manager is one who treats everyone fairly...

Cheating and Nascar: Whos at the Wheel

...Analyze the motivational factors that promote cheating in NASCAR I believe that the largest motivational factor of any NASCAR team owner, crew member, or driver is that of winning. Each team represents not only a number on the side of a car but the entire organization, the sponsors, the driver, the crew chief, their crew and their families. NASCAR is big into the family values and your team is your family; you never let your family down. To win a race at any track is to bring honor to your team, revenue to your sponsors, and notoriety to your name. To win for oneself may not be enough motivation to cause a driver to cheat; however, most often times the driver is not the one that sets up the car, which is the crew and crew chief’s duty. Drivers can aide in the facilitation of cheating by requesting that their car be tweaked to their liking, how this is done however is the crew’s job. To win for a cause or for a team gives more pressure to win because there are other people counting on your success. Other motivational factors that promote cheating within NASCAR are that everyone knows everyone cheats. Each and every team in the NASCAR garage has tried and tested the very vague rules of the governing body, sometimes they get caught and others they don’t. To the teams it is worth a chance to try and get away with a tweak that may not be entirely within the rule book and get that little bit of an edge than to finish last on race day. The more lenient the attitude is towards...

The Dark Knight Rises

...Batman – The Dark Knight Rises 1. What do we see in the opening scene (the prologue)? What tone/atmosphere does the opening scene set? W eget introduced to the villian/terrorist. Action-packed. 2. What kind of place is Gotham City? (what does it look like?) Much like New York. 3. Make a character sketch of Batman/Bruce Wayne and focus on his development. To what extent can Batman be said to be a vigilante? Quite withdrawn. Not very social like he was in the movies before. He sees that Gotham is under attack and even though he has retired, he feels a commitment to protect his city. Batman is definitely a vigilante. Takes matters into his own hands. 4. Compare Batman to Bilbo. They are both on a mission. Which similarities/dissimilarities do you see? Batman is more like a ”serious” and obvious hero. Fighting hard with incredible powers. Bilbo is a more nice and ”lucky” type. Most of the things he experiences is accidentialy. 5. We know that adventurous blood runs in Bilbo’s veins (the Took side). What ’drives’ Batman on his mission? He is sort of the citys protector. He has a responsibility. 6. Characterise Bane (briefly) Pretty determined and intelligent. Ruthless. 7. What similarities/dissimilarities (in The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises) do you notice when it comes to villains? The fact that The hobbit is whole other genre compared the dark knight rises. The white orc is more primitive, but still powerfull where...

A State of Trance

...September 12, 2012 G. Grunow English 131 A State of Trance “Hanady! Hanady! Hey where’s Hanady, she isn’t responding.” “She must be upstairs listening to music.” Music to me is almost like a third language. It not only provides insight but it allows me to feel as if I’m in another world. Music comes in many forms from rap, r&b, rock, pop, and many more but nothing speaks to me more than the power of trance. Trance is a genre of music that alters a mix of electric dance and repeated lyrics and beats. Throughout my school years I managed to have many friends but ones who weren’t really setting me up for a good future. I would do things, such as homework and studies, at my own pace and school wasn’t my first priority. It was fall of 2009, when my cousin Jay, introduced me to the world of trance. I remember that very first song he had me listen to called “On a good day” by Oceanlab. After hearing it several times I almost felt as if I were able to escape from the world I was living and came to realize that it was almost my little piece of heaven. Trance makes me so relaxed and motivated when I listen to it. It was almost like a friend to me because the lyrics that came along with it were more insightful than the words that came out of my friend’s mouths I hung out with. At that point in my life I moved away from friends and moved in a better direction. Sports have been a huge part of my life. I played soccer and volleyball all throughout high school and I remember...

Beyond Borders

...Lisa Eichholz Dr. Hilary Harris English 096-10 November 10, 2011 Beyond Borders Recently there has been a dramatic increase of refugees, estimating 11 million today which is up from the 3 million that was recorded in the mid-1970s (UNHCR.com). Founded in 1919, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is now the largest humanitarian organization. In 1965 the IFRC proclaimed the Seven Fundamental Principles of Humanitarianism. The principle of humanity, the principle of impartiality, the principle of neutrality, the principle of independence , the principle of voluntary, the principle of Unity, and lastly the principle of Universality. The film Beyond Borders follows Sarah Bauford (Angelina Jolie), Nick Callahan (Clive Owen), and a small group of aid relief volunteers working throughout a few of the world’s most volatile areas. This films greatest lesson is showing the existing needs of many people and how there are few who are there to help and trying to make a difference. This film exemplifies the most important of the principles of humanitarianism in a very complex way. In the film many of the characters exemplify the principle of humanity in both positive and negative ways. The principle states that the movements goal is to “prevent and alleviate human suffering” by promoting “understanding, friendship, cooperation, and lasting peace.” At the beginning of the film Nick Callahan storms into the aid relief international’s black...

Hartley Leslie Poles Hartley (1895—1972), the son of a solicitor, was educated at Harrow and Balliol College, Oxford and for more than twenty years from 1932 was a fiction reviewer for such periodicals as the Spectator, Sketch, Observer and Time and Tide. His novel "Eustace and Hilda" (1947) was recognized immediately as a major contribution to English fiction; "The Go-Between" (1953) and "The Hireling" (1957) were later made into internationally successful films. The first postcard he receives is from Forfar and is anonymous. Usually he answers to the letters but this one didn’t have any address so Walter was relieved that he doesn’t need to answer to it. Don T Call Me Ishmael: Plot Analysis

...As a leader James Scobie is able to bring the team together when examining the issues. He says, “Look, we can change, so let’s try to examine to topic.” (p.137, bauer, 2003). This quote shows us James Scobie trying to urge his dysfunctional team into investigating the debating issue. This is important because without teamwork and patience from James Scobie there would be no team. Ishmael is an unusual characters to show teamwork as he is extremely shy. James recently went to Sydney during the finals for his debate team. Ishmael takes the initiative to stop his teams negativity and to take over James’s role as leader. He says, “I don’t think we should forfeit. I think we owe it to Scobie to at least try. I had to brace myself before I could go on. Look, I’ll make a deal with you. If you don't want to speak, i’ll speak for you.”(p.185-186, bauer, 2003) This quote shows us that Ishmael has lost his timidness and now wants to take the leadership role because without a role model their team would have crumbled. This quote shows a different style of Ishmael, It shows us that Ishmael wants the team to never give...

Technology Environment

...Daniel Quinn, many environmental issues are discussed. Among the issues, Quinn talks about technology and how humans believe it to be a turning point in society, but will eventually lead to the downfall of humans. People are at great risk to their health with the advancements in technology. Not only have individuals fabricated new ways of entertainment, but have built factories, which pollute the air they breathe and water they drink. In Ishmael, Quinn tells of man trying to fly; when man fails, he does not just simply give up and wait to fly, but creates a new way, that is not fool-proof. Humans will do anything to make life easier, but for no reason than to make life easier. But is this really making life relaxing? People still have to go to work, still have to breathe in polluted air, and other such effects, all of which may be hazardous to their health. Humans keep creating objects that are harmful to the environment, and they call this “technology.” Well, this may be “technology,” but obviously citizens do not see that it is taking control of their...
