The Golden Age of Comics was just that, the development and birth of a new age that steered the characters and genera’s of a decade and beyond. While the exact start and end of the Golden Ages is debatable, its existence spanned approximately a twenty-year period from the mid to late 1930’s and into the mid to late 1950’s. Essences of the Golden Age lingered in the early 1960’s but the tides by this time were changing rapidly and the free forming ideas as well as the collaborations of this dynamic period had reached their peak.
At the dawn of the Golden Age of Comics publishing industries began to develop cartoon booklets as a marketing ploy. Most notable in this endeavor was Eastern Color Printing Company and two of its employees, …show more content…
Delacorte had attempted this a few years earlier but stopped after only thirteen issues. Burned once, Delacorte was not willing to go further even though the book sold out quickly. While he did not gain notoriety at this point, Delacortes company Dell Publishing later became a leading comic book distributer.

The break from premiums to stand alone success came in July of 1934 when Eastern took the leap launching “Famous Funnies” a sixty-four page comic distributed by American News Company. Comprised as their earlier efforts were of recycled daily comics the “Famous Funnies” publications lasted for four decades churning out monthly editions. A tour of the covers from these monthly editions gives insight into what was happening in America and in some cases the world. Leading the super hero parade above and beyond Superman in the 1940’s Captain Marvel set a new formula for superheroes that appealed to young boys (Goulart, Comic Book Culture: An Illustrated History, 2000).
Superheroes could be found in all genres from war stories where they assisted the troops to protecting the world from space creatures. But not all stories were intended for children and actually much of it was filled with adult content. BOHL-B depicts a war story as-well-as an introduction of a female superhero in “Miss Fury” created by Tarpe Mills in 1940. While male counterparts were never shown in their underwear while changing into their superhero costume readers of this comic get a peek at the female superheroes under attire. ...certain consumer by the food marketers. Ranging from cookies, to cereal, and to snacks, these products are specifically aimed at children. They are placed lower so that children can recognize their products from commercials or other media and select them when grocery shopping with their parents. This is only one form of impression that food marketers are leaving on children of all ages. Whether good food or junk food, all food marketers are spending billions of dollars to advertise to one age group: children. Ranging from birth to 17 years, children and young adults are unknowingly programmed by their surroundings everyday to eat whatever the food industry wants them to. In my research paper, I will be analyzing food advertisement geared towards children; specifically how these advertisements affect their health and diets. My position on food marketing is that it is too influential on children and that it needs to be more regulated, either by parents or by the government. Someone needs to take a stand for children so that when they are older, they can live healthy and fulfilling lives. The research I have conducted supports this claim that food marketers, in order to lower the obesity rate in children, need to be more heavily regulated. I also find that the sources I have selected cover the food industry well and will prove to be well-chosen. In order to understand this topic, my audience will need to know how children are being targeted by marketers. The sources I have collected...

Kronos Greek Myths

...My research paper is about the Greek Titan Kronos also known in Greek as Cronus or Saturn in Latin. According to pop culture, he is depicted as a monster who was the father of the Olympians. He was also the king of the Titans, who were overthrown by their own children the Olympians in Greek mythology. Today when we read the Greek myths about him, all we really know about him is his ending. We barely know how his life started and what he was like in the middle of his life. The purpose of this paper is to describe the rise and collapse of Kronos, the god of time and King of Titans. The Titans’ timeline was rather brief in comparison to the Olympians in Greek mythology. However, they have a very strong story about their creation. In the...

Queen Elizabeth I Represented in Movies

...Childless, I am mother to my people. I am the queen, I am myself." This quote from the movie “Elizabeth: The Golden Age“ describes the fascination about Elizabeth I of England in few sentences. A woman, who could prevail in a male-dominated society. A woman, who waived her own fortune for the sake of her subjects. A woman, who influences the national pride of the English even today. So it is not surprising that there is plenty of literature, opera and movies about Elizabeth I. The following term paper examines three movies, where Elizabeth I is the protagonist. “Elizabeth“, with Cate Blanchett in the leading role, is about the days of her youth. The 1998 movie shows the development of a young princess, who was crowned after the death of her half sister Maria. The first years of her reign are very turbulent, because the creation of a Protestant Church by her father Henry VIII and the return to Catholicism under Maria split the nation. The inexperienced Elizabeth has to determine which religion should be the official one in order to prevent a civil war. Meanwhile her consultants give her advice to keep the line of succession by marriage. But to whom shall she entrust her heart and kingdom? At the end of the movie all problems are solved and Elizabeth creates the icon of the “virgin queen“. Nine years later, the sequel of the movie from 1998, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age“ was released. She is in her 26th year of reign and still without descendants. In spite of many men who wish to...

Business: Undercapitalization and Bankruptcy

...the going gets rough and the pizazz to ride the crest of the wave when things go well. Business: Undercapitalization and Bankruptcy While there are many reasons to cling to the security of the hourly wage paycheck, the hopes and dreams of personal freedom is something that we, as humans, still crave. In this particular case, that freedom leads to the status of the self-employed businessperson. The problem is that just wanting success is never enough to accomplish it. Although freedom leads to self-sufficiency in an ever-changing, increasingly global market, the mere desire for success is a delusion in terms of real-world achievement. So the real question becomes, how can a small startup business avoid bankruptcy? The Golden Idle To begin with, the age-old cliché is true: “It takes money to make money.” This is fully understood by the business gurus of the modern world as under capitalization. It would seem so simple for a person with good intentions and a great product to just go down to their local bank and ask for a business loan....
