The Beautiful View During Spring Break of 2016, my family and I traveled to the beautiful city of San Francisco. One of our destinations was to walk across the famed Golden Gate Bridge. This site has always been an attraction for many tourists around the world for years. Its beautiful structure, rich history, and wonderful view give the tourist something to look forward to when entering the city. The Golden Gate Bridge is a destination that people around the world should visit because of its breath-taking ocean, structure, and view of the city. When we entered the famous architecture, the view that was provided took our breath away. As I stepped on to the bridge, the first thing I noticed was the ocean. The ocean, flowing in waves of …show more content…
When I entered the marvelous piece of work, the second thing I noticed was how tall it was, and how far it went in distance. This bridge has such a rich history behind it, and how it got its red color. The bridge stretches across the ocean 1.7 miles, exceeding the height of 746 feet, making a road for travelers and workers leaving and arriving the city. The orange color of the bridge is a key factor many people recognize that make the bridge special. “Consulting Architect Irving Morrow selected the distinctive orange color because it blends well with the span's natural setting as it is a warm color consistent with the warm colors of the land masses in the setting as distinct from the cool colors of the sky and sea. It also provides enhanced visibility for passing ships” (Golden Gate Bridge, 1). The bright, orange, tall pillars holding up this magnificent bridge was a sight for sore eyes. Stretching for miles, the bridges pillars rise and fall giving the structure a unique build. The bridge connects two pieces of land, San Francisco and Marin County. Walking through the bridge, stopping and knowing how much history this structure has and how much time, money, and energy was spent made me feel privileged to be able to see it. The Golden Gate Bridge has its beautiful structure that makes it a vision, but the view of the city that it yields provides another reason why tourists should

...student will work on how to make it erupt, one works on making the platform, one works on cutting the chicken wire, and one is cutting up newspaper strips. The desks in the group are all facing each other, and each student is given an instruction sheet for their particular job. They are instructed to help one another when someone gets stuck, and to check off on their papers when they have finished each step. Another activity I chose was the use of learning centers and computer stations. Some examples of my learning centers for this particular day are the video center on volcanoes, the reading center on volcanoes, and the poster center on volcanoes. I have four groups set up for the students to learn from about volcanoes. The video center is off in the corner, and has a 20 minute video for the students to watch. The reading center is towards one outer wall and has a stack of books and magazines for the students to read about volcanoes. Another learning center has various posters of volcanoes that are packed with useful information about volcanoes. Then there is the computer station where the students can research more information on the web about volcanoes. One behavioral expectation of my cooperative learning groups is to keep the voice volume down between students in the small groups, so as not to disturb other working groups. I will tell my students this rule, then i will discuss and demonstrate appropriate volume. I will make sure to reinforce this rule as the project...

Alcatraz Escapes Essay

...“After climbing through the window they made their way down to the water's edge and disappeared into San Francisco Bay” (“Alcatraz”). “The San Francisco Bay area has one of the strongest tidal currents going under the Golden Gate Bridge” (Morelle). “‘In the worst-case scenario, where paddling was ineffective, the outgoing tide would have swept them out to the ocean and they would have died of hypothermia. For sure.’ Stated Dr. Hut” (Morelle). However,“The TV Show ‘MythBusters’ has tackled the escape, concluding that it’s possible the three men could have paddled to safety” (“Prisoners”). It is said that “Officially, no one ever succeeded in escaping from Alcatraz, although to this day there are five prisoners’ listed as ‘missing and presumed drowned’” (“Alcatraz”). “The authorities assumed they had drowned in San Francisco Bay, but they later appeared in Sutro Forest” (“Escapes”). “Half a century later, the search for clues about the fate of the men continues”...

What

...Capitalization Rules Capitalization is the writing of a word with its first letter in uppercase and the remaining letters in lowercase. Experienced writers are stingy with capitals. It is best not to use them if there is any doubt. Rule 1. Capitalize the first word of a document and the first word after a period. Rule 2. Capitalize proper nouns—and adjectives derived from proper nouns. Examples: the Golden Gate Bridge the Grand Canyon a Russian song a Shakespearean sonnet a Freudian slip With the passage of time, some words originally derived from proper nouns have taken on a life, and authority, of their own and no longer require capitalization. Examples: herculean (from the ancient-Greek hero Hercules) quixotic (from the hero of the classic novel Don Quixote) draconian (from ancient-Athenian lawgiver Draco) The main function of capitals is to focus attention on particular elements within any group of people, places, or things. We can speak of a lake in the middle of the country, or we can be more specific and say Lake Michigan, which distinguishes it from every other lake on earth. Capitalization Reference List * Brand names * Companies * Days of the week and months of the year * Governmental matters Congress (but congressional), the U.S. Constitution (but constitutional), the Electoral College, Department of Agriculture. Note: Many authorities do not capitalize federal orstate unless it is part of the official title: State Water Resources Control...

Herb Kelleher

...Herb Kelleher: Let’s Get Nuts! Everyone have the ability to be a leader in today’s society, whether we chose to embrace the inner leader is up to the individual. By definition, leadership is characterized as a person with a vision and the ability to energize individuals to turn that vision into a reality. The book written in 1996 by Jackie and Kevin Freiberg explains how Kelleher and Southwest lead the airline business. To understand how far Herb Kelleher has gone in life, you have to understand where and how far Southwest Airlines has come. Purpose: Herb Kelleher is an example of a leader with a vision, a vision we know today as Southwest Airlines. His ability to build relationships within a company and a new twist of how things should be run are reasons why his company still is thriving today. Theme Statement: Kelleher not only appeals to the customer’s wants, but he listens to his employees and acts accordingly. Context: Herb Kelleher is a New Jersey native and a former graduate of New York University School of Law. There he gained the knowledge to become a successful lawyer, also meeting his supportive wife, Jon Negley. Kelleher and his wife soon moved to San Antonio where he continued to practice law. ...include extended benefits, such as health insurance and outplacement assistance to help the employee secure a new position. Severance packages differ from unemployment benefits. Unemployment benefits are paid by the government, while severance pay comes from each specific employee’s company. Severance pay puts the responsibility of benefits on the firms, making them more socially responsible and taking a burden off of the states and the government, a burden that many states are feeling especially the last couple years coming off of a recession. We will be arguing that businesses should be required by law to provide six months of severance pay to long-term employees who are laid off due to outsourcing or corporate restructuring. In this paper, we will discuss why the United States of America should adopt laws requiring companies to offer severance pay to employees who have been laid off or lost their jobs unfairly. A few of our reasons for arguing for mandated severance pay include...

Xun Wu is based at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Clement K. Wang is Associate Director (Research), NUS Enterprise Centre, National University of Singapore, Singapore. Introduction Story of Alibaba.com The development of e-commerce has been nothing short of explosive in recent years. Many believe that its growth and impact will only become more prevailing in the future. The sale of goods by US firms over the Internet, for example, is predicted to reach $1.3 trillion by 2003. By 2004, European enterprises are expected to have online sales of $1.6 trillion[1]. Companies in China, with the largest population in the world, are also probing this new source of revenue. The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) issued an Annual Report in Internet Development in January 2000 that estimates that there were 22.5 million Internet users in China at the end of 2000[2]. A recent nationwide survey showed that China had more than 1,100 consumer related e-commerce Web sites by the end of the first quarter in 2000 (People’s Daily, 2000). Four Web companies, Sina.com, Sohu.com, China.com, and Netease.com have already been listed on the NASDAQ. However, the country’s e-commerce market is still in its infancy....

This is one of them. In late afternoon, in the autumn of 1989, I'm at my desk, looking at a blinking cursor on the computer screen before me, and the telephone rings. On the other end of the wire is a former Iowan named Michael Johnson. He lives in Florida now. A friend from Iowa has sent him one of my books. Michael Johnson has read it; his sister, Carolyn, has read it; and they have a story in which they think I might be interested. He is circumspect, refusing to say anything about the story, except that he and Carolyn are willing to travel to Iowa to talk with me about it. That they are prepared to make such an effort intrigues me, in spite of my skepticism about such offers. So I agree to meet with them in Des Moines the following week. At a Holiday Inn near the airport, the introductions are made, awkwardness gradually declines, and the two of them sit across from me, evening coming...
