The significance that Gonzales vs. Mailliard, 1971 cause was a great change because police officers usually arrested juveniles using 601 phrase. It all started with a young girl saying that she got raped by fifteen boys from a gang. She could only identify three by name and the rest she couldn’t. Some police officers went to where it happened and arrested ten more members, they use 601 phrase. It states in the book “this was not the first time that police had used the 601 WIC statue to arrest member of this gang.” A crime may have been committed but the police already tried to get the gang before using the same statue that they were using pertaining to the rape. This just shows us that they may have been doing the same thing with other juveniles so they can be send to juvenile hall. …show more content…
In which it states the vagueness of the words “… in danger of leading and idle, dissolute, lewd, or immortal life.” I see how the plaintiffs argue that the words are not precise or list what are the dangers they lead or have to lead. The court agreed with the people that put the lawsuit because it was not clear and it violated some of their rights. It did not state what precisely were the dangers or what should juveniles not be doing. This case changes everything for juveniles because the court referred to it as the void-for-vagueness doctrine. Everything that was in the statue was not clear and what conduct was bad and was not allowed and the part of the statue was not clear enough so people can prepare a case. The court declared that part of the statue was unconstitutional, but later it was send to the U.S Supreme Court but they just send it back to the district
