How to Make a Good Presentation

...Presentations may be given for different reasons, on different subjects, at different levels, by people of different business culture but they will all be the same in structure. Language points will also be transferred from one presentation to another. Thus all well-balanced presentations are most certain to have two things in common: the underlying structure and the language points which typically arise to serve this structure. TO MAKE A GOOD PRESENTATION YOU NEED TO: • plan it to the last detail - write out the presentation in full - time the presentation to fit the available time - reduce the script to notes of the most important points (it is from notes only that the presenter should give his/her final presentation) • rehearse the whole of the presentation , not just bits of it • let the audience see your better qualities from the start • be able to create a positive emotional atmosphere • structure the presentation correctly • focus the audience attention on the main points • make your speech loud enough, never drop your voice at the end of the sentence or paragraph (mumbling always irritates the audience) • maintain the eye contact with the audience throughout the presentation • pay special attention to the opening and closing courtesies • use a marker to point out some important ideas, facts or figures on the blackboard • keep the time limit ...

Business Plan in Ten Minutes

...Creating a PowerPoint presentation, or deck, for your business plan is a quick, to-the-point means of revealing your best selling points to those reviewing it, while still sending over your more detailed plan. The question is, how do you organize and minimize the breadth of a business plan into a short PowerPoint presentation? First, it’s recommended that you use the 10–20–30 rule: 10 slides, 20 minutes and a minimum 30-point font. Follow these additional tips to create a winning deck: 1. Your first slide is your title slide, which provides the name of the business, your name, title and contact information, plus a slogan if you have one. During the presentation, you can read the slide and add in a sentence that describes what it is you do. 2. The next slide should introduce a problem that persists and is relatable to your target market. Statistics can help you support your comments, but cite only a couple at best. You want the audience to relate to the problem or at least understand how it affects others. 3. The third slide should get to your solution. Briefly describe in simple terms how your business has figured out how to alleviate the problem you mentioned in slide 2. Make sure the audience understands that you have a unique approach. You might also add a few words to support your overall value proposition. 4. Next, you want to explain how you'll make money. What are your revenue sources? Who are your customers? What is your pricing structure? Then talk briefly about...

Reflection

...Hello ILC! In my 4th year of study, I would have to spend 8 months working on a project in a developing country. I could work on a health care delivery system, do an environmental assessment, create a marketing or small business development plan with local entrepreneurs, address key issues such as child labor or HIV/AIDS, and the list goes on. With a good mark in English, I hope to get accepted into this program. I’ve never taken an online course so I did not know exactly what to expect. I am finding it more difficult than the English course that I took in day school. I also find that it is twice as much work. However, in day school, a lot of the marking is through class discussions, presentation, and overall behavior in class. Because ILC is independent and there are no teachers to mark a student on presentations discussions, etc, it makes sense that there would be more work to cover. I like this course a lot more than my last English course. I love writing. In day school, we did a lot of writing, but there was always a lot of pressure to finish it at a certain date and perfectly. I absolutely love how I can work at my own pace think about what I am writing thoroughly without stress. It makes things much easier. I work at Zellers as a Fashion Sales Associate. And I have found that balancing school and work has become so much more easier by taking this...
