Grandfather Car Scam

At an adolescence age of eighteen, my grandfather was looking for my first vehicle. My grandfather spent most of his life as a carpenter and an at home mechanic. This made me realize how hard he works for his money. As he continued to search for the perfect car he can across a Nineteen seventy two Nissan Datsun two forty Z. It was flat black with red trimming and flat red alloy wheels and a chrome dual exhaust. The interior was black leather with flat red trimming. It also had a racing steering wheel that was red and black as well. It was a very beautiful car.
So my grandfather went to look at it and the owner started it up and this car sound pretty and very powerful like a lions roar when he stepped on the petal. He really liked this car so he knows it would be right for me. So he bought it with cash and drove it home. As soon as he got home and got out the car. The car began to make a funny noise and began to leak green fluid. Grandfather got had a disgusted look on his face a look of disappointment. Grandfather called the seller of the car about the leak and of course he said he didn’t know about it. So the seller said bring it back so he can look at it and on the way back to the sell the car stops in traffic right around the corner from the seller.
Then he called him and asked him to come help push it. He came but he came with a rope and a hook to pull the car. Then my grandfather said so you were prepared for this. Then asked is it possible to get my money back. The seller said no. Then my grandfather said if not all at least half because it seems to me that you knew the car would do this. Then my grandfather stated we can handle this now buy you giving me half and you can have the car back or we can go to court. The seller immediately said I’ll give you three fourths of the money back and I’ll take the car back I’m sorry that this happened. Grandfather said your apology is accepted no one deserves to be scammed because at the end of the day we all work just as hard equally for our money.

The Dead Democracy

...Money, coercion, and power - the three things that rule the world's second largest nation with 1.1 billion people. Corruption in India runs so deep within the society that it can no longer be considered simply a problem with the society but instead a way of life that there is no escaping. This problem has grown to such a magnitude that the corruption is affecting the fundamental establishments of democracy. As Ben Doherty, a reporter for Guardian Australia and twice a Walkley award winner for his foreign reporting, states, “[India] instead of being of the people, for the people, by the people, has become a government of the corrupt, for the corrupt, by the corrupt.” The sad truth is that India, although once prided as the world’s largest democracy, can no longer retain that title as it has transformed into an oligarchy where the power lies in the hands of the rich and the corrupt. While a democracy must be driven by the people, it is not necessarily a good form of government. The definition of a democracy, according to Sean Connolly in his book Democracy, is a “government where the people have the power and… [that] works to benefit these people” (3). Essentially, he is saying that the government in a democracy is “of the people” and “by the people” so that the people have the power, and “for the people” so that the government actually works for the people and not for its own selfish interests. In addition, Connolly supports the definition that Winston Churchill put forth calling...

This Was My Country

...The country I know and love is gone. The land of the free and the home of the brave has become a seething cesspool of underpaid, uncaring, Godless, inconsiderate bastard children. Our commander-in-chief has become nothing more than a slumlord, demanding higher and higher taxes in various forms from his subjects, while the infrastructure of the nation crumbles beneath his feet. How long will it take before the infrastructure of our nation crumbles to the point of total disaster? How long can the government provided, prescription happy pill fed citizens of this once great nation support the burdens which are being placed on them? How long will it be before the demands of the rich can no longer be met? Demands such as ever-increasing safety ratings, ever-increasing profits, ever-increasing greed, ever-increasing cost of living and ever-increasing fees that are continually handed down to the poor, reaches a point that the poor can no longer afford to be poor? The day IS coming. Our once great nation will crumble under its own weight when the infrastructure gives way. The poor will scatter out of the way, and the rich will have the farthest to fall, and the hardest time adjusting. The poor (not including the government supported) have been trained for so long at surviving with a mere fraction of what is necessary for survival, that they will band together, and live off the land as they must. The rich, on the other hand will suddenly find that their wealth now holds no...

Why Are Certified Public Accountants Important to the Accounting Industry, and Why Their Role Is

...Why are Certified Public Accountants Important to the Accounting Industry, and why their role is Important to Business, Industry, and Society? Virginia Commonwealth University Writing and Rhetoric April 15, 2011 Why are Certified Public Accountants Important to the Accounting Industry, and why their role is Important to Business, Industry, and Society? CPAs became prominent after the 1800s when America started into the industrial era. They mainly did the basic bookkeeping for businesses at that time. As the industrial age grew and the government started to impose taxes, CPAs became more important to businesses as they now had to handle the filing of taxes for businesses. Although many people don’t see how important CPAs are to business, industry, and the economy, as well as, society. With the many changes over the centuries that government and CPA societies have put on CPAs, there have been some big changes in educational requirements, as well as governmental regulations. But in today’s society ethics has become the biggest problem that CPAs have to deal with and yet have more control over in the economy, and especially in business and industry. History has shown just how business and industry has needed CPAs, from controlling payroll and taxes, auditing accounting journals at the local mom-and-pop stores, to auditing financial papers of big corporations in order to let the investors at banks and Wall Street have some sort of an...

Ambani Story

...NTRODUCTION: AN INVITATION TO BOMBAY The envelope was hand-delivered to our house in Golf Links, Tan enclave in New Delhi whose name captured the clubbable lifestyle of its leisured and propertied Indian residents, soon after we had arrived in the middle of a north Indian winter to begin a long assignment. It contained a large card, with a picture embossed in red and gold of the elephant-headed deity Ganesh, improbably carried on the back of a much smaller mouse. Dhirubhai and Kokilaben Ambani invited us to the wedding of their son Anil to Tina Munim in Bombay. In January 1991, just prior to the explosion in car ownership that in later winters kept the midday warmth trapped in a throat-tearing haze overnight, it was bitterly cold most of the time in Delhi. Our furniture had still not arrived-a day of negotiations about the duty payable lay ahead at the Delhi customs office where the container was broken open and inspected-and we camped on office chairs and fold-up beds, wrapped in blankets. The Indian story was also in a state of suspension, waiting for something to happen. The Gulf War, which we watched at a big hotel on this new thing called satellite television, was under- cutting many of the assumptions on which the Congress Party’s family dynasty, the Nehrus and Gandhis, had built up the Indian state. IF TOMORROW COMES by Sidney Sheldon, ©1985 BOOK ONE Chapter 01 New Orleans THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20--- 11:00 P.M. She undressed slowly, dreamily, and when she was naked, she selected a bright red negligee to wear so that the blood would not show. Doris Whitney looked around the bedroom for the last time to make certain that the pleasant room, grown dear over the past thirty years, was neat and tidy. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and carefully removed the gun. It was shiny black, and terrifyingly cold. She placed it next to the telephone and dialed her daughter's number in Philadelphia. She listened to the echo of the distant ringing. And then there was a soft "Hello?" "Tracy... I just felt like hearing the sound of your voice, darling." "What a nice surprise, Mother." "I hope I didn't wake you up." "No. I was reading. Just getting ready to go to sleep. Charles and I were going out for dinner, but the weather's too nasty. It's snowing hard here. What's it doing there?" Dear God, we're talking about the weather, Doris Whitney thought, when there's so much I want to tell her. And can't. "Mother? Are you there?" Doris Whitney stared out the window. "It's raining." And she thought, How melodramatically appropriate. Like an...

He holds his head low over his double Scotch, but every few minutes he glances up and out, behind him, towards the door. A fine sheen of perspiration glistens under the strip-lights. He lets out a long, shaky breath, disguised as a sigh, and turns back to his drink. ‘Hey. Excuse me?’ I look up from polishing glasses. ‘Can I get another one here?’ I want to tell him it’s really not a good idea, it won’t help, it might even put him over the limit. But he’s a big guy and it’s fifteen minutes till closing time and, according to company guidelines, I have no reason to tell him no, so I walk over, take his glass and hold it up to the optic. He nods at the bottle. ‘Double,’ he says, and slides a fat hand down his damp face. ‘That’ll be seven pounds twenty, please.’ It’s a quarter to eleven on a Tuesday night and the Shamrock and Clover, East City...

Idioms and Expression

...Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thailand, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn common, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscommunication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to assist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used...

Her son was among the first students enrolled in what would later be called the Vanguard program, which stoked creativity and independence in its students and nurtured expansive, outside-the-box thinking.
